Mold was causing a huge problem at Pepperell's public-safety complex. A report from lowellsun.com dated January 16, 2014 stated that it was expected to cause the town some $200,000. In response to it, My Cleaning Products recommended two organic mold removal sprays to help others avoid similar problem and huge spending.
As it was said in the report, because of the fungus, employees were transferred to the two rented trailers placed at the parking lot of the building. It detailed that one of them was designated for the administration staff whereas the other was reserved for the police. On the other hand, it shared that prisoners were temporarily held at Groton Police Department.
Town Administrator John Moak said in the report that the mold in the facility was caused by the consistent cutback on the maintenance budgets over the years. And to completely clear it, it was said that about five months would be needed to finish the process.
Regarding the money to carry out the treatment, the post related that Finance Committee approved a request of $60,000 for it. Voters will be asked for an additional $150,000 during a Special Town Meeting on Feb. 3, it added.
Here is an excerpt from the post about Mold to Cost Pepperell $200K by My Cleaning Products.
With mold presence comes various and big spending. Pepperell's public-safety complex administration understands that very well with the expected $200,000 worth of mold treatment that it needs to get completed.
According to Town Administrator John Moak, the mold in the building was the product of the consistent cutback on the maintenance budgets over the years. And because of its presence, employees will have to be relocated to give way to the clean-up process.
According to MCP, mold could indeed bring in huge spending by causing damages to structures and health. More so, it said, if its removal process is delayed.
And so, the company advised the public to be vigilant of any mold sign. If any of them is encountered, it asserted that one must immediately act on it.

Hinsdale Middle School will remain closed Tuesday and Wednesday to allow additional time to clean the school and perform mold testing in the wake of water damage that occurred last week, Hinsdale School District 181 announced over the weekend.
The district continues to await the results of the latest mold tests conducted at the school. Possible mold was discovered last week, and ensuing tests confirmed low concentrations of mold spores on Saturday.
This week, a hygienist will be on site to test the air, collect additional samples, and observe the work being conducted by a firm that specializes in water damage restoration, according to information released by the district.
On either Wednesday or Thursday, at a time yet to be determined, the district will hold a meeting to address the situation. The district said parents, staff and interested community members are encouraged to attend. Attendees will have an opportunity to tour the building prior to classes being resumed.
District officials closed the school Friday after a series of events that began Jan. 4 when a teacher noticed water dripping into the music room. Later that night, the district received a call from the Hinsdale Fire Department, which has responded to an alarm triggered by water flow in the sprinkler system. The water damage affected all three floors of the school.
Integrity Environmental Services Inc. was called in on Jan. 10 to conduct an air quality test. Results showed air quality to be well within acceptable guidelines.
On Thursday, Jan. 16, drywall was removed and walls were tested, with possible mold growth identified. On Saturday, results from the samples showed low concentrations of mold spores on the drywall and surface samples tested.
This isn't the first time mold has been discovered at the school. Water-related mold was discovered in July and again in August. Subsequent remediation was conducted, including the replacement of wet drywall.

WARREN - At $12 million, the project to rid Warren Township's Meadowbrook neighborhood of pollution by replacing broken down septic systems with sanitary sewer lines is among the most expensive of the mandated upgrades in Trumbull County.
Adding to financial strains is the fact that the area east of the Mahoning River in Leavittsburg is home to low-to-moderate income residents.
Combined, it's a double whammy that may push the project to the end of the list.
''It's a big project, the income level of the people in that area lends itself to a project that really has to have a pretty good grant to offset, so people can afford it,'' said Rex Fee, executive director of the Trumbull County Sanitary Engineer's Office.
The office would like to see the project, one of a dozen to remedy failing or malfunctioning septic systems in a consent decree with the state, pushed back five years because of the cost and inability for residents there to pay for it.
It is scheduled to be completed by 2015.
By numbers
$40.1 million: Total cost for consent decree sewer projects completed or under construction.
$11 million: Total cost for economic development and petition sewer projects completed or under construction, since 2007.
$51.1 million: Total project costs.

Medina Journal-Register MIDDLEPORT The four seasons are one of the things people love about this area of Western New York, with fall being one of the most colorful. Falls rich colors are captured on some of the Village of Middleports porches on a new poster.
Falling for Middleports Porches features 18 residential porches from all around the village. The photos were taken by local photographer Gretchen Schweigert, a village resident, and showed off falls yellows, reds, browns and gold colors as well as the welcoming feeling of many village homes in a variety of unique and wonderful ways.
It was fun to use the porches in my own hometown, said Schweigert, who tells her story of how she photographed some of Middleports porches for the poster on a Youtube.com video. These homes and porches are so connected with my own childhood memories. The video can be accessed from the homepage on the http://www.Middleport-NewYork.com website.
One of the porches Schweigert photographed was that of Middleport Mayor Richard Westcott. What I love about this poster is that it features porches from many different homes from throughout the whole village including the old Victorians, newer homes, and small and large homes alike, said Westcott. The colors and variety really show why so many of our residents find the Village of Middleport a great place to call home.
The Falling for Middleports Porches project is part of a promotional campaign for the village, and donations made for each poster will be used to publish a book written by Anna Wallace, former village historian. Current Village Historian Christa Lutz is working with Wallace to turn her historical accounts of Middleports past into a published book featuring stories, news clippings and photos. Anna does such a wonderful job of telling our story that I cant wait until we can have her book completed and available to share with anyone interested in our local history, said Lutz.
Posters are available at Middleport Village Hall during regular business hours and at the Village Historians Office at 20 Main St. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. People wishing to have a poster mailed can also send a $14 check to cover mailing costs and their donation to MATABC, PO Box 114, Middleport, New York 14105.
Anyone with questions about the poster or how to order them can email news@Middleport-NewYork.com.

Christian Life Assembly choir members sing during the service on Sunday morning in the newly finished wing of the church.Melissa Evanko/Pocono Record
January 20, 2014
Christian Life Assembly first began holding services at its church in Stroud Township in December 1983. On Sunday, just over 30 years later, members gathered to dedicate a fully renovated, expanded church that displays how much the congregation has grown since then.
More than 300 people sat comfortably in the sanctuary to celebrate those involved in the construction of the new church addition that took five years, and those who built the congregation membership over the last 30-plus years.
"Because you have been faithful, God has brought you to this point. But I can tell you, we would never be at this point unless there were others who laid the groundwork before us," said Lead Pastor Craig Johnson.
Helping to draw a link between the church's history and its next chapter were two longtime leaders former Lead Pastor John Puleo and former Associate Pastor Tim Holmes.
Holmes told congregants about his first visit to a much smaller Christian Life Assembly in 1985. He said even at that point, the church's pastor was talking construction.
"He told me, 'Tim, where do you think we can add onto this church?'" Holmes recalled.
Since then it seems the church has done nothing but grow, both in size and membership. Holmes, a longtime church board member, said each year the board had some kind of construction project in mind.

Afterforcing the reversal of Ukraine's political course and offering President Yanukovych a financial and economic bailout last year, Russia is apparently now planning to intervene directly in Ukraines church affairs.
The events surrounding the EuroMaidan over the last sixty days have shown just how important the church remains to Ukrainians. This concerns primarily the three main confessions that trace their roots to the Kyiv Metropolitanate created by the Patriarchate of Constantinople during the times of Prince Volodymyr the Great: the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Kyiv Patriarchate (UOC KP), the Ukrainian Orthodox Church subordinate to the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC MP) and the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church (UGCC), which remains in union with the Pope of Rome.
The Kremlin plans to suborn Ukraine politically, economically and culturally. Support for separatist movements, coupled with the December 2013 economic accords signed in Moscow, form part of the first two pillars of this strategy. As a serious instrument to advance Russian political interests in Ukraine, the Moscow Patriarchate is indispensable to the construction of the third pillar.
The leader of the UOC MP, Metropolitan Volodymyr, is in grave health; uncharachacteristically he was absent from any Christmas-related celebrations this year, even in the hospital.
Metropolitan Volodymyr, an ethnic Ukrainian, has maintained a measure of balance of power within the UOC MP and allowed the church to retain relative independence from Moscow. His successor will determine whether this church continues on its Ukrainian path, or will fall into complete dependency on Russia, fulfilling the dreams of the Patriarch of Moscow, Kirill, and the Kremlin.
There are several potential candidates among the church's bishops to replace Metropolitan Volodymyr. Most often mentioned as a successor is Metropolitan Antoniy (Pakanych), but the candidacies of metropolitans Onufriy of Bukovyna, and Ilarion from Donetsk are also under discussion.
However, none of these hierarchs enjoy Moscows full trust. Therefore, since 2011 there is a plan to appoint the head of the UOC MP from Moscow, in particular, Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeev), a Russian citizen, the Russian Orthodox Churchs (ROC) chief diplomat and Patriarch Kirills closest adviser.
An appointment like this would be akin to President Vladimir Putin sending someone from his inner circle to run Ukraine's economy as prime minister.
To implement this strategy, Patriarch Kirill might come to the council that elects the new Metropolitan of Kyiv, where either he or his loyal bishops in Ukraine will propose to elect Hilarion (Alfeev). To ensure the desired result, the voting procedure will be made open and not by secret ballot.
This appears to be a plausible scenario, especially after we witnessed how, under Kremlin pressure, Ukraine's leadership changed its political orientation on the eve of signing a civilizational pact with the European Union.

It towers over the west-end London house where Anna Hopkins lives, a massive highrise she fought for a decade.
That same fight, over the $20-million apartment building carved into a forested hillside, gave the 58-year-old rare expertise about the most complex issue at city hall development.
Now, the political neophyte is making a run for city council, stepping out of the Reservoir Hill highrises shadow with knowledge she earned the hard way.
Hopkins led a decade-long neighbourhood fight against plans to build a highrise on Reservoir Hill, along Springbank Dr. near Byron, a battle that ended in 2012 when council approved a huge building on the slope.
Unlike most rookie wannabe politicians, that experience would make Hopkins ready and able to tackle complicated development matters if she wins.
I am truly interested in land-use planning and how the process works, said Hopkins, who plans to file her nomination papers this week.
Planning is something thats very complicated, she said. But its a really big part of what I think sitting (on council) is about.
While shes moved on from the Reservoir Hill battle with Ayerswood Development Corp., its hard to forget it.
Hopkins now lives in the shadow of the building, which to the naked eye looks unusually large for the plot of land.
In May 2012, the 12-storey, 165-unit apartment tower was approved in a 10-5 council vote. The heavily wooded, steep slope overlooking Springbank Park was cleared and built upon (construction appears to be near-completion now).
