PETALING JAYA - The Year of the Horse will gallop in with a promise of more romance, marriages and babies, according to feng shui experts.
The Year of the Wood Horse, which actually starts on Feb 4, marks the arrival of shung chun or "double spring", said feng shui master Louis Loh.
"So, more marriages and newborns are expected," he said.
TV personality and Good Feng Shui geomantic researcher Master Kenny Hoo agreed, adding that "many couples will marry, move into new homes and have babies or other great celebratory events".
"However, mothers should avoid giving birth between May and August if possible. As the element of fire is strong this year, babies born in the summer months tend to be overly aggressive and hot-tempered," he said.
For investors, Hoo, who has 15 years of experience in the field, is predicting a volatile stock market.
"There will be extreme ups and downs. And the stock market will hit multiple new highs," he said.
Despite a challenging year ahead because of price increases for various items, Hoo said this could translate into opportunities for those wanting to get to know new people or open up untapped markets.

A dual winner over hurdles last season, Gwladys Street had an unfortunate experience first time over fences, but has fared much better with placed efforts in his two subsequent starts.
"He was unlucky first time out over fences this year at Carlisle where he fell at the fence at the bottom of the hill. They took it out at the next meeting as there was a lot of trouble at that fence," said the Cheshire handler.
"He managed to sustain a cut to his face and had to have stitches, so then we just took him locally to Bangor to get him jumping and he's got a second and a third.
"We think he's on a competitive mark. He's run well on soft, heavy ground before. Hopefully he will progress and have a chance.
"He's 3lb lower now than what he was when he started out. He was 109 over hurdles and we always thought he'd be a better horse over fences. Hopefully he's starting to learn his game."
War On has been placed in both his starts over fences on this track so far this season and trainer Chris Grant is looking for another decent show.
"He's had two runs for us. We was third and then second there last time," said the County Durham handler.

Contractor of court site sues Monticello
In October 2013, Mayor Gordon Jenkins, left, looks at debris where the old village court building in Monticello once stood. Jenkins' decision to have it torn down has triggered several controversies.Times Herald-Record file photo

MONTICELLO The wreckage from Mayor Gordon Jenkins' ill-fated decision to demolish Monticello's old village court continues to grow.
First, the state Department of Environmental Conservation arrested six people for illegal dumping, and then the state Department of Labor halted removal of the debris because of asbestos.
Now the demolition contractor company's owner, who was arrested along with five other people for dumping debris on Fairground Road, is suing the village because his company, Sams Property Management, has not received its $5,000 fee.
In a handwritten complaint filed in village court, Sam Kearney claims Jenkins told him the court building was free of asbestos prior to the demolition.
Kearney also says the village failed to pay bills he submitted for heavy equipment he rented. Daily charges for the equipment, including an excavator, accumulated while the DOL prohibited anything from leaving the site.
Kearney is seeking $196,333 plus interest, although the case will likely have to be moved to Supreme Court because of the amounts involved.
