Wow, Steve, silverfish are most often consumers of stored paper, cardboard and books, especially for the glues involved. But research confirms that they will eat clothing in a pinch. So to specifically protect your wearables, follow the same rules as with clothes moths:
Well Steve, as with many pests, silverfish are a sign of a potentially bigger problem: high humidity levels. Silverfish are creatures of extremely excessive moisture, thriving at a relative humidity of 75 percent or above, a level that is also very inviting to a slew of other annoyances, like roaches and millipedes. It's bad for your home as well.
So:
Rebecca in Alexandria was also fast to cash in on my New Year's Resolution to help homeowners find non-toxic pest control solutions, specifically for mice. She writes: "We've tried snap traps and glue traps and have caught a few, but still have some left and we're about to buy D-Con out of desperation, even though it's a poison and we've got two little kids."
Don't do it, Beck! Poisoned mice and rats will crawl inside the walls of your home to die, making a terrible stench and attracting many more pests! The poisons are also a great hazard to children and pets: .
To safely and sanely get rid of rodents:
Rebecca in Alexandria also wants some non-toxic pest control solutions for roaches. She writes: "We hadn't seen one in months and then one appeared in the bathroom medicine cabinet! Every now and then we see one; never a lot of them.

Stone and concrete thrown up by wild sea
Saturday, January 04, 2014
Families in Co Clare were evacuated from their seaside homes as windows and patio doors were blown in by 30m high waves which threw quarter-ton wall cappings 50m across a car park.
Damage to the promenade in Lahinch, Co. Clare
By Pat Flynn
Dozens of mobile homes and caravans were left under several feet of water after the Atlantic surged several hundred metres inland.
A fishing boat was swept up onto the pier at Seafield near Quilty while the only access to the quay was flooded by seawater for the first time in living memory.
Members of the Kilkee unit of the Irish Coast Guard evacuated several homes with personnel carrying elderly people through waist-deep water to safety.
Further storm force winds and several tidal surges were expected overnight.
The occupants of as many as 20 homes in the Seafield area have been advised to leave their homes until later today.

Families were forced from their seaside homes as windows and patio doors were blown in by massive waves during stormy conditions yesterday morning.
Residents of several apartments and homes in Lahinch had to be taken to safety by fire personnel and garda after some of the worst storms ever witnessed in the west Clare resort town.
Dozens of mobile homes and caravans were left under water after the Atlantic surged several hundred metres inland.
A fishing boat was swept up on to the pier at Seafield near Quilty, while the only access to the quay was flooded by sea water for the first time in living memory.
Members of the Kilkee unit of the Irish Coast Guard evacuated several homes, with personnel carrying elderly people through waist-deep water.
Further storm-force winds and several tidal surges were expected last night.
The worst of the storms was felt in Lahinch, where large concrete wall cappings were tossed over 50m across the main promenade car park. Signs buckled under the pressure of the storm surge, while large sections of metal fencing along the shore front collapsed.
Clare County Council said Lahinch promenade would remain closed to the public until further notice. Members of the public have been advised to stay away from the seafront for their safety.
The first alarm was raised at around 5.30am when residents reported their properties being flooded. Several homes in Saddle Lane, close to the promenade in Lahinch, had to be evacuated. A family of eight was taken to safety from their home by Fire Brigade personnel while garda evacuated other properties.

CASSELTON, N.D. - The oil boom in western North Dakota gets a lot of attention.
But follow Interstate 94 from Valley City to the cities of Mapleton and Casselton, and what you find might surprise you.
For a community the size of Casselton and Mapleton, you could call it a boom, said Mark Vaux, executive vice president for business development for the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corp.
The story is similar in Valley City, said Jennifer Feist, director of the Valley City-Barnes County Development Corp.
Feist and Vaux say the economic buzz in the eastern part of the state isnt necessarily tied to energy.
It is value-added agriculture and technology and advanced manufacturing, those kinds of things, said Feist.
She said some of the things happening in Valley City population about 6,500 include:
A $20 million expansion of the John Deere seeding group facility in town.
The project resulted in the hiring of about 80 new employees over the past year, according to Feist.
A thriving software company called Eagle Creek Software Services, which provides software support and development services to Forbes Global 2000 companies.
