How Much Should You Tip
Your Manicurist: If you see the same manicurist/pedicurist regularly, consider a tip between $10-$15. The general rule of them is to tip the price of one manicure, so in New York City, this might mean a bit more.
Hairdresser/Stylist: This can very greatly. Some etiquette experts suggest a $15 tip. Do you see the same hair stylist regularly? If they provide you with a quality cut/style each time, tip them the cost of one typical haircut.
Babysitter: If you have a regular babysitter, tip them the amount you would pay them for one evenings work.
Full-time Nanny or other home helps (elder care, etc.): 1-2 weeks pay, or 1 weeks pay and a weeks vacation.
Dog Walker: The cost of aweeks walk.
Teacher: A small gift of about $20 value, given to the teacher by your child. Or consider gathering money from all the students in the class and purchasing a group gift.
Mail carrier: By law, the Postal Service cannot accept tips or gifts. If you do decide to tip anyway, a tip of about $20 is a safe bet.
Cleaning Person: An unofficial standard is 10 to 15% of the cleaning bill. Consider tipping more if they do work more frequently.

A main floor family room is the equivalent of finding the Holy Grail when house shopping. Who wouldnt love a home with room for the whole family to sprawl out in casual comfort? The problem is that most older homes in the inner city werent built with family rooms as part of the plan. My clients had opposing viewpoints on whether to stay local or hit the highway in search of a home with enough open area. In the end, they settled on a 1960s-era ranch style home that boasted privacy, lots of space, and a giant main floor family room oozing with vintage character - but in dire need of a major makeover.
Sarah Richardson: How to peel back the old-timey look
Strip it
If your home is stuck in a bygone decade, the only solution to achieving contemporary style is likely somewhat drastic. You dont need to tear down walls, but you may need to peel back a few layers of decorative enhancements to arrive at a simple and streamlined base for moving forward. We ripped up broadloom, tore off trim, unloaded an old wood stove, and ripped out a cartload of stained oak. Suddenly, this split-level space looked more like a sleek, light-filled studio than a retro rumpus room, and its underlying strengths were revealed.
Smooth it
One of our greatest obstacles in this house was an overabundance of stucco. Were not just talking stippled ceilings here, my friends, but stucco everywhere! Ive said this before and Ill say it again : I hate stucco on any interior surface. I spend too much time getting rid of cheap stucco finishes. So how do I suggest you smooth out your stucco? The most economical approach Ive found so far is to skim coat with plaster. Its painstaking and its dusty, but it costs less than putting up new drywall. It wasnt me spending days smoothing out all the bumps, sanding, and dealing with the mess, but one thing I do know is that having an envelope of smooth walls makes a huge difference to the room.
Unify it
Among the challenges with this homes original space was the multi-level plan, the sloped roof lines, and the combination of materials. Somehow, you have to overcome the design discord and make all these distinct elements work together. In this case, the answer was gallons and gallons of white paint. Suddenly the brick walls brightened, the ceilings soared, the views to the garden became more engaging, and the whole room began to read as one light, bright, contemporary cocoon. A little harmony goes a long way.
Contemporize it
My clients expressed two different design briefs: one wanted institutional modern while the other wanted mid-century warmth. My job was to marry these two agendas and the solution rested on two elements with big impact: floors and glass railings. Six hundred square feet of engineered oak floor with a limed stain introduced the natural beauty of wood grain while still maintaining the stark monochromatic palette that would deliver the minimalist look. The raised dining platform offered its own set of challenges in terms of sightline and flow between living and dining areas. A custom glass-railing system allowed the dining room to float: in the space. While the templating and installation of the railing is custom, the railings, connectors, post and base moulding are all stock components that can be mixed and matched for best results. The choice of floor and railing were a bit of a splurge, but getting the fundamentals right is the key to success.

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Corpus Christi police are said to be on the trail of a makeshift paving company that may be responsible for badly injuring a pet cat this week.
3News reported Thursday that a pet owner believes his cat, Ricky, was intentionally sprayed with hot asphalt, resulting in severe burns. A company that was doing work on Jarvis Street, near Seaside Cemetery, was allegedly responsible.
Ricky was taken to a vet after the owner found him covered with in the hot asphalt. The neighbor, who was having the paving work done at her home, called the police to report that the company "didn't do a good job," but police told her it was a civil matter.
However, on Friday, police said the officer did not ask enough questions about the cat.
"There was confusion about the officer saying it was a civil matter. Certainly, abusing an animal, none of our police officers would ever tell somebody, 'hey, that's a civil matter,'" said Cmdr. Todd Green of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "What he was referring to was the poor work that was done on the driveway."
Green said they are searching for the Blacktop Paving Company based in Mesquite, Texas, to further investigate the animal cruelty charge.
"Based on what they saw out there, nobody that we know of -- and we actually had our officers go out there this afternoon and go door to door and see if anybody actually saw this happen -- but based on the physical evidence, it looks like yes, this cat was intentionally sprayed with asphalt," Green said.
At last check, Ricky the cat is still alive, but there is no word as to whether or not he will survive. Green said that if police can prove a case, the company can be charged with a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty.

A group fighting to stop the partial demolition of the quake-damaged Christ Church Cathedral has lost its battle.
The Supreme Court denied the Great Christchurch Buildings Trust leave to appeal against the deconstruction of the landmark that was badly damaged in the February 2011 earthquake.
The Supreme Court also ordered the group pay $NZ2500 ($A2,256) costs to the Church Property Trustees, which is overseeing the deconstruction of the Anglican cathedral, in a decision released on Monday.
The group believes demolishing the cathedral is detrimental to the recovery of Christchurch.
The Supreme Court said it acknowledged the circumstances which prompted the appeal were of great general importance to Christchurch residents.
'That importance arises from the history, function and iconic nature of the Cathedral.
'However, in this case nothing that has been raised on behalf of the applicant reaches the threshold of showing that the decisions of the courts below may be in error.'
The group's bid was previously thrown out by the Court of Appeal and High Court, though it has been established that there must be a cathedral on the site.
In May, the Anglican church said over half of the more than 3700 submissions on three options for the future of the cathedral favoured a contemporary design which church leaders also backed.
