Replacing cabinet door inserts is an easier and more cost-effective way to update your kitchen decor than installing new cabinets. Well-chosen inserts add a customized look to cabinets, whether you want to increase the rustic charm of a Shaker-style kitchen with fabric or embellish a sleek, contemporary decorating scheme with stainless steel.

Replacing cabinet door inserts with glass will brighten the room, showcase your cookware and china and keep needed kitchen implements in plain sight. Choose a ribbed or frosted glass to soften the decor and partially blur cabinet contents. Install molding over glass inserts to make them look like old-fashioned paned windows. Beveled or leaded glass inserts add a formal touch to any kitchen, while stained glass inserts add an artistic feel. All glass inserts will be more dramatic if you light them from behind with a small light inside the cabinet. Consider replacing only some of your inserts with glass, since even the neatest cooks may find it difficult to keep the contents of their cabinets display-worthy all the time.

Add a beaded board cabinet insert to give your kitchen a country or Shaker flair. Paint or stain beaded board panels before installation. Use a distressed faux-finishing technique to give the boards an antique look.

Your RV water heater typically holds 6 to 10 gallons of water. In order to prevent having to fill your water heater completely with antifreeze during winterization, you can install a bypass is to eliminate the water heater from the RV plumbing circuit, and so both the hot and cold water systems are tied together. This makes de-winterizing much easier.

Drain the water heater. Locate the water heater on the outside of the RV and lower the access panel. Near the top of the tank is a pressure relief valve with a lever on it. Carefully move the lever upward to release any air pressure in the tank. Now remove the drain plug at the bottom of the tank. Take care to quickly remove the plug once the last thread is reached and step to the side, otherwise you'll be in for a good soaking. The plug can sometimes have a long rod (called an anode rod) attached to it; if so, you'll have to pull it out a ways to remove it. Let the tank drain completely.

Locate the water heater inside your RV. Most often, it is located inside a kitchen cabinet or under a dinette. Remove any drawers and anything else blocking your access. On the back of the tank at the bottom is the cold water line, and at the top is the hot water line. These lines are generally colored blue and red respectively, but some are just white.

Cut the lower tube at the attachment point to the tank, leaving at least 1 inch of tubing protruding. Install a three-way valve from the kit in the lower pipe, with the handle easily accessible. Slide the nut over the tubing, rock the tubing onto the flared fitting on both ends, and tighten the nuts on the fitting. The center port of the valve should be facing toward the installation point of the second valve.

Install the second valve in a similar manner. Note that the valve handles should be on the opposite sides of the tubing. That is, if the valve is facing to the right, the other valve handle should be facing to the left. This ensures the valves properly bypass the water supply to the tank and are easy to operate.

Install a piece of PEX tubing supplied in the kit between the two center ports of the the three-way valves. Cut the tubing to length and assemble in the same manner as the valves. The ports should be facing each other, top to bottom, so the tubing is vertically oriented after installation. Other configurations my be necessary due to space issues or non-standard factory tubing connections. The bypass kit is now completed.

This modification uses a PEX tubing kit and requires some cutting of the tubing going to the water heater. There are other kits that require no cutting but don't always have the right fittings included. Examine your water heater connections and determine which kit will likely fit your needs before buying the kit and doing the mod.

Well, sit down for a minute and Ill go over the details for installing window trim and casing on a casement window. Have no fear if you have a double hung window or other, these techniques will work for those windows too.

Replacement vs. New Construction Windows:

But, lets back up for a minute. I wanted to share with you a little snafu that happened with our casement window. When I ordered it, the guy taking the order asked me a few questions and somewhere there was a translation breakdown. He thought I needed a replacement window because I was replacing an existing window. What he didnt realize is that I was increasing the size of the window opening and therefore needed a new construction window. In the end, I was stuck with the replacement window, but my handman and I used as many weather-stripping, caulking and water barrier techniques we could think of to keep it water tight.

This is what you need to know when ordering a new window:If you are removing the old and putting in a new window into the same frame, you order a replacement window. If you are expanding or changing the size of your window opening you need to order a new construction window.

The Moravian Pottery & Tile Works (MPTW) is a history museum located in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. It is maintained by the County of Bucks, Department of Parks and Recreation. The museum was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972,[1] and was later included in a National Historic Landmark District along with the Mercer Museum and Fonthill. These three structures are the only poured-in-place concrete structures built by Mercer.[2]

Handmade tiles are still produced in a manner similar to that developed by the pottery's founder and builder, Henry Chapman Mercer. Tile designs are reissues of original designs. Mercer was a major proponent of the Arts and Crafts movement in America. He directed the work at the pottery from 1898 until his death in 1930.

Mercer generally did not affix a potter's mark to tiles made while he directed the work at MPTW. Following his death, there were several marks used to indicate that a tile had originated at MPTW. When the Bucks County Department of Parks and Recreation took over the MPTW as a working museum, all tiles made by the museum were impressed on the obverse with a stylized "MOR", the words "Bucks County" and the year of manufacture (see illustration).

The reproduction tiles made today are made using Mercer's original molds, clay that is obtained locally and has properties similar to those of Mercer's original source, slips and glazes that follow Mercer's final formulations, although some have been modified to reduce the lead and heavy metal content to less toxic levels.

The Tile Works is one of three poured-in-place concrete structures built by Mercer. The others include Fonthill, which is located on the same property and served as his home; and the Mercer Museum, located approximately one mile away.
