    Summary

Architects must present drawings to clients.

Architects plan and design buildings and other structures.

Architects spend most of their time in offices, where they consult with clients, develop reports and drawings, and work with other architects and engineers. However, architects often visit construction sites to review the progress of projects. Many work more than 50 hours per week.

There are three main steps in becoming a licensed architect: earning a professional degree in architecture, gaining work experience through an internship, and passing the Architect Registration Exam.

The median annual wage of architects was $72,550 in May 2010. Many firms pay tuition and fees toward continuing education requirements for their employees.

Employment of architects is projected to grow 24 percent from 2010 to 2020, faster than the average for all occupations. Current demographic trends will result in a greater need for architects. Those who distinguish themselves with their creativity should have the best job opportunities.

Compare the job duties, education, job growth, and pay of architects with similar occupations.

Located at the centre of Sheridan Colleges new campus, the Scholars Green is a symbiosis of public park and academic common that provides rich outdoor amenity for students, faculty and the surrounding community. Ordered by a criss crossing circulation system, a modern take on Harvard Yard, it both pays homage to the collegial landscape while providing an everybody-everywhere lattice of paths that seamlessly connect the park to its surrounds. More info The historical centre of Bordeaux University sets a new beginning : the Opration Campus begins with urban design at its heart, where intermingling can take place. The initial meaning of campus can be retrieved through an intense central green space. This series of courtyards becomes a network of interactive spaces, as well as a part of the city : a number of facilities animate the center of the square (museum, caf , amphitheaters) and contribute to its urban value. The addition of planted elements lends a human scale to the existing hardscape by providing shade, delineating paths, and acting to filter air, sound, and light that enters the space. More info

    Front Yard Landscaping Ideas

    - November 3, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Design for front yard landscaping ideas and plans for backyards usually have different purposes. Most front yards generally follow a purpose of accessibility and invitation. It's where we enter and leave are homes but spend very little time. So usually most of the thought process goes into creating walkways and driveways. Then the design is created around that.

Creating front yard curb appeal is a good idea for adding value, a sense of invitation, and to frame the picture of your home. But you shouldn't have to spend a lot of your budget creating landscaping ideas for most front yards. A simple functional design works best. Then, since the backyard is where most people spend most of their time, you can spend more energy and money on the back.

On a major scale, landscaping front yards is kind of a new thing. It's really one of those American ideas that has only gained popularity in recent years. If you look at pictures of European gardens, you'll notice that generally there is just a small courtyard and entry in the front while most of the focus goes to designing inner courtyards and landscape designs for yards in the back.

Yeah, I know: you've just barely taken down the Halloween decorations (you procrastinators out there are just starting to think about doing so), and here I am talking about Christmas trees, right? However -- and much to the disapproval of any self-respecting procrastinator -- some things in life require thinking ahead (they just do).

Cutting Christmas trees in national forests is one of those things. The experience can be wonderful for the whole family. But don't wait for the Christmas spirit to hit you to begin thinking about the blue spruce tree that will find a home in your living room: start planning for it now. Steve Nix discusses cutting Christmas trees in national forests in this blog post.

Don't have the space for a big tree? Some folks buy those little Alberta spruces that the supermarkets sell. Decorate them for Christmas as you would a larger tree (but on a smaller scale). You can plant them outdoors after the holiday, but if you live in a cold climate, this also entails some planning. Since the ground may be too frozen in late December for digging, dig your hole now to have it all ready for the post-Christmas planting. Water your Alberta spruce after installation.

A battery-powered lawn mower that packs a punch and doesn't need constant recharging -- that's what we've all been hoping to find someday, right? Well, I won't say that Remington's cordless electric mower satisfies me completely on these points; but it does offer hope that the "lawn mower of the future" is not just a distant dream....

And for good measure, this cordless electric mower allows you to switch over to corded mode, in case you can't quite finish mowing a large lawn on battery power; instead of waiting for a recharge, you can just plug in and finish on the spot.

But once you experience the freedom of going cordless, you won't want to switch back to corded under any but the most dire of circumstances. And if you have a small or medium-sized lawn, the battery charge should hold just fine. In fact, in my test, this cordless electric mower held its charge for longer even than advertised.

The one issue with this mower is that, once the battery dies its final death with you, it may be difficult to replace it.

If you are lucky enough to have a pool in your backyard, you know the pleasures it can provide.

To enhance that pleasure, taking the opportunity to add landscaping, patio furniture and decorate the area, anyone can turn their pool and patio area into a private oasis.

When it comes to landscaping around a pool, the ideas are endless. Ideas which reflect your entertainment style, yet make it personal.

Backyard pool landscaping ideas played out in a design making your pool and patio area your very own sanctuary, hiding right out your back door.

However, to accomplish this you need a plan, a landscaping plan.

Two hardscape features which produce dramatic results in a pool area are landscape lights and landscaping bricks or pavers.

For some pools, the landscape around the pool may seem boring or messy. To dress up the patio, pool and backyard add plants and flowers around the pool.

Plants planted directly in the ground creates a more permanent layout. Place decorative stones or rocks in between the flowers.

Mulch is another great way to camouflage the disturbed dirt in and around the pool area.

Realtors always say that the three most important things to look for in a property are location, location and location. This old saying rang loud and clear for our clients when looking to remove their old uninspired swimming pool and create something truly custom and unique. The home is situated on ten secluded mountain top acres with a captivating view of the valley and nearby city below. Our clients loved their home and the rest of their property but were left feeling disappointed when in their old swimming pool and the landscaping in the surrounding area. Being seasoned world travelers, the homeowners had strong opinions on the landscape design, layout and materials. This turned out to be our best catalyst for bringing our swimming pool to a higher level of design and craftsmanship.

Primary Landscape & Swimming Pool Designer: Bill Moore licensed NJ Landscape Architect of Cipriano Custom Swimming Pools & Landscaping

    Infield Designer: Chris Cipriano

Swimming Pool & landscape Construction: Cipriano Custom Swimming Pools & Landscaping

Masonry Construction: Cipriano Custom Swimming Pools & Landscaping

Solution: Custom Infinity Edge Swimming Pool and Landscaping Design / construction.

The goal of the swimming pool design was to create an infinity edge swimming pool that accentuated the views off site. Setting the pool elevation and location on the property were scrutinized thoroughly. The shape was set to be a roman end pool with plenty of seating, a large spa and a Sunshelf at the shallow end, allowing all users a chance for active and passive recreation. The patio layout again was designed to allow users to spread out and enjoy the vast views with our new pool in the foreground.

The house and surrounding landscape were on top of a mountain. Some of the landscape had rock shelf just a few feet down while other areas had up to a twenty foot depth of unsuitable fill conditions. The swimming pool area and subsurface soil were excavated to suitable shelf and subgrade, this required 1000 tons of clean stone below the pool and another 400 tons of compactable fill surrounding. This provided the stable base for the swimming pool, patios and landscaping.

The finishes on the swimming pool are what really took this pool from great to spectacular. For example, the waterline tile of the swimming pool consisted of a two color hand casted half inch by half inch iridescent glass tile set in a Grecian key pattern. Pulling from that tile, one inch by one inch tiles were set at all the benches, steps and shelves as well as the overflow to the infinity edge. This led us to the installation of a three color iridescent glass Grecian key and border detail at the bottom of the swimming pool with a combined profile of approximately thirty inches wide. The floor tile was an add-on and was very challenging to install due to the head locations of the in floor pool cleaning system. In addition to the in floor cleaning system, the tile and plaster installation crews had to tiptoe around 200 fiber optic star floor lights on the pool floor. The swimming pool plaster was selected to accentuate the tile, using a washed, exposed aggregate finish which glistens in the summer sun.
