MANILA -- If 2013 is the "best time to start over," 2014 is the "best time to go with the flow," according to a feng shui expert.

Citing her analysis of feng shui charts, Marites Allen said the Year of the Wood Horse, which will start on January 31, 2014, is not the ideal time to get into a relationship, tie the knot, invest or start a new business.

"This is actually the year in one sentence: going with the flow is key in the Year of the Horse," Allen said in a press conference on Tuesday.

"For relationships, you must do it before the end of the year... Relationships that would start next year are ill-fated. They're doomed. Heartbreaks and breakups are in store for them," she added. "But you can still take risks."

Allen said one can expect quick tempers and an "intense environment" to be common next year, noting the presence of two "aggressive sword stars."

Given these, the feng shui expert encouraged the public to maintain a positive attitude and to always think twice and take a step back before saying or doing anything.

"Expect to be misinterpreted a lot," she said. 'Lucky' signs

Allen went on to share which animal signs are "lucky" during the Year of the Wood Horse.

Aside from those who are born in the Year of the Horse, people under the Sheep and Monkey animal signs are predicted to get the energies of the "white star," which is associate with overall success, she said.

Other "lucky" animal signs include the Rooster, which is seen to have "heaven luck" or good karma, and the Rat, which is said to have more prosperity next year.

Trying to sell a house this year? Consider using feng shui.

The practice, which originated in China, is a very down-to-earth analysis of what does (and doesn't) make your home appealing and inviting, says Terah Kathryn Collins, author of "The Western Guide to Feng Shui" and founder of the Western School of Feng Shui.

"I think the whole popular notion of staging is all contained within the practice of feng shui," she says.

Everything we associate with staging -- from clearing the clutter to making the place smell good to sprucing up the entryway -- are all feng shui strategies, she says.

But feng shui experts are the first to admit that it, alone, won't sell your house, says David Daniel Kennedy, a feng shui practitioner and author of several books on the topic, including "Feng Shui for Dummies."

First, you want to have "the right price, the right agent and the right marketing plan," he says.

"Those are the three basics that have to be right or feng shui is a nonstarter," Kennedy says. Once you have that, then you can put some feng shui techniques to work -- to amp up your chances of a sale, he says.

The good news is that Dario Franchitti looks like he will fully recover from Sundays horrific crash at the IZOD IndyCar Series Grand Prix of Houston.

Actually that is about the only good news in this whole mess.

IndyCar bosses must all have had four leaf glovers in their pockets because what could have been a full blown deadly disaster was miraculously avoided.

Just to recap, Franchitti was coming around a high-speed corner, likely at near 175 m.p.h., when Takuma Sato slowed in front of him.

Franchittis No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda clipped Satos rear tire sending it up into the catch fence, scattering bits of carbon fibre and metal and part of the fence itself into the nearby grandstand injuring 13 fans.

Again, luckily, none were seriously hurt.

It was, however, just the latest in a series of crashes into the so-called catch fences that needs much closer scrutiny.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Demolition is happening at the Astrodome. It's not the actual dome that's being torn down, but that's what could happen depending on what the voters decide in November. The other option is to turn the Astrodome into an events center but that's going to taxpayers.

Ticket booths, turnstiles, even iconic columns ringing the Houston Astrodome are being torn down. But officials insist, it's not what it looks like.

Edgar Colon with the Harris County Sports Corporation said, "We're here to make sure that we explain to the public that we are not demolishing the Astrodome."

Crews are only demolishing parts of the dome -- exterior portions that the county judge says must come down for safety reasons, no matter what is ultimately decided. County commissioners approved this eight million dollar project months ago.

"There had to be improvements made to the Astrodome regardless of what the voters decide -- if we repurpose it or if, ultimately, the dome comes down," said Harris County Judge Ed Emmett.

In less than a month, Harris County voters will decide on a $217 million bond proposal to turn the dome into an event center. If the bond passes, the average Harris County homeowner would see an eight dollar per year increase in taxes. If it doesn't pass, the entire building could be torn down.

The initial exterior demolition project around the Astrodome is expected to continue until next summer.

Demolition work doesn't mean beginning of the end for Astrodome -- yet

EDEN, N.C. -- Duke Energy started demolishing its more than 60-year-old Dan River Steam Station in Rockingham County. The company decommissioned the station's three coal-fired units last year as a new natural gas plant went into service.

The station is one of seven in the state Duke Energy will retire by the end of the year as it modernizes its electricity generation fleet and reduces emissions.

"We retired it in 2012, and now we're going through a multi-phase, multi-year approach to its demolition," said district manager Davis Montgomery.

Crews are removing the tracks once used by rail cars to bring in loads of coal, and they've begun work on the outside of the plant's powerhouse.

"[We're] taking some brick off it because we're going to modify the water intake to be used for the new plant, said Montgomery. That will be taking place over this next year, or so, but in 2015 the old powerhouse will come down completely."

The steam station's more efficient replacement came on line in 2012 and features a pair of combined combustion turbine units.

"They use natural gas as their main fuel source but they have on the backside of them a steam unit that recovers the heat off the combustion process and then uses steam to turn a turbine," Montgomery said.

At its best, the electricity output of the steam station was no match compared to the new plant.

"The old plant had about 360 megawatts worth of power, which is roughly about half what the new plant has, said Montgomery. The new plant can serve about a half million customers, so roughly speaking the old plant could serve 250,000 households."

The steam station has served the region well since the 1940s, but Montgomery said as the population continues to grow, the new cleaner burning, higher output facility would meet a huge need.
