NEW YORK (PIX11) David Justino is the kind of guy you want around when things go wrong. He was around when a cab jumped the curb on 6th avenue and slammed into Sin Green visiting from the UK last month severing her left leg.
Justino, who happened to be walking nearby, rushed to the scene and created a makeshift tourniquet to help control the heavy bleeding with a belt and a dog leash. I had to hold the belt while I did the dog leash, then I gave the dog leash back while I held the belt, Justino said. Then we sat together . . . hanging on.
A dog leash and a belt, two mundane things you wouldnt think of, but they saved her life, said Dr. Oz, who also rushed to the scene.
Justino has been supporting his aquarium business with the plumbing job he was fired from.
But right after his good deed, Justino was fired from his construction job. The company says for lack of work but the union plumber thinks its because in the frenzy of recognition that followed, he was deemed a distraction.
I know the business, I know how it is, Justino said. We got a deadline to meet (and) this guys off giving an interview, maybe hes not doing the job . . . get rid of him lets just finish, Justino said.
PIX11 caught up with Justino Tuesday as he struggles to come up with the money to keep his Yonkers pet store afloat. Money was coming from his construction gigs. On this same day victim Sin Green, out of the hospital, appeared on the Today Show demanding the cab driver who lost control in the road rage incident that took her leg be charged criminally.
Appearing on the Today show, Green says she wants the driver who hit her, Faysal Himon, to face criminal charges.
Driver Faysal Himon held a press conference after the incident saying it was simply an accident and not his fault. Himon was flanked by taxi driver advocate Fernando Mateo who was in front of cameras to ask for a crackdown on unlicensed livery cabs taking business from legitimate drivers.
On Tuesday it was a strange day for karma believers: a man who saved a life is out of work, a tourist out of a hospital without a leg and the driver who hopped the curb in a fit of road rage got a slap on the wrist.

David Justino used his belt as a tourniquet after a cab hit Sian Green and says he has been laid off due to publicity surrounding the incident
Splash News
The plumber who saved a British tourists life after she had her foot sliced off by a New York taxi claims he was sacked from his job over his heroic act.
David Justino, 44, used his belt as a tourniquet after an out-of-control cab hit Sian Green last month.
He was hailed a hero by the 23-year-old and medical staff, who said the plumbers actions had saved her life.
But now the 44-year-old is struggling to pay his bills after being laid off from his job as foreman of a plumbing company working in the famous Rockefeller Centre subway station.
He said: I lost my job for saving this girl.
All that commotion, my boss had enough of it and decided it would be better to fire me.
"I think I would have been better off doing heroin than being a hero.

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Upon discovering that one of their patients had an infestation of bedbugs in their apartment, Providence Hospice of Seattle reached out to Eden Advanced Pest Technologies for help. Previously homeless for 10 years and living with cancer of the larynx, the man in their care was living independently thanks to assistance from the REACH program in South Seattle, but was unable to get sufficient help in ridding his home of these pests.
We were truly moved by this mans story and predicament, said Jen Marlowe McCauley, spokeswoman for the Seattle pest control service. He had already faced so many big challenges in his life. To have bed bugs ruining his stable living situation seemed ridiculous.
Eden Pest Control sent their Seattle-based staff members, Randy Moffatt and Jason Chandler, to remove the bed bugs using a heat treatment to the entire apartment. The technicians treated the infestation by raising the room temperature to 130 degrees to kill the bed bugs and their eggs. The pests could be found throughout the kitchen cabinets and apartment furniture.
The infestation was much worse than it originally appeared, said Randy Moffatt, Service Supervisor with the Eden Pest Control Greater Seattle team. The bedbugs literally came out of the woodwork as soon as it got to around 100 degrees.
Providence Hospice of Seattle was able to provide the Seattle man new clothes and a place to stay for two nights while his apartment was undergoing bed bug treatment. He returned home to a bed bug-free place.
We all deserve a little kindness, even more so when life has been difficult. We were happy to be able to donate our time to help make his life a bit easier, Moffatt said.
