FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - Various fire agencies put on sprinkler demonstration Wednesday as part of a fire safety conference to show how significant having a sprinkler system in a home can be.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department, Indiana Safety Educators, the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition and Current Mechanical all set up two different rooms--one with a sprinkler system and one without.

Then both rooms were set a blaze to show how sprinkler systems can be a matter of life and death.

"The non-sprinkle room went in to a flash over stage within a minute in a half, which is well over a stage that will kill somebody that is in that house," Capt. Dave Meadows of the Fort Wayne Fire Department says. "The sprinkle room was extinguished within the first 20 seconds. Home residential sprinklers are phenomenal they will save your life."

The fire safety conference is a two-day event being held at the Ivy Tech South Campus: Public Safety Academy.

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --iRunway, a technology consulting firm specializing in patent litigation and patent portfolio analysis, has released a comprehensive new report revealing the patent holdings of Nokia and other top players in the 2G / 3G patent landscape and detailing the quality of the patent portfolios across different technologies.

The report explores an upcoming shift in patent licensing and litigation as top wireless technology patent holders in the 2G and 3G space become much more aggressive in their efforts to generate revenue from their assets. The report sheds light on an important aspect of the recently announced Nokia acquisition and helps to identify those companies that stand to benefit as this arena evolves.

Ericsson, Nokia, Qualcomm and Alcatel-Lucent are among those who developed the building blocks of today's wireless world. While the brands may have faded somewhat in the minds of consumers, they collectively control the majority of all patents in the 2G and 3G space. In fact, Nokia, LG and Qualcomm alone own more than 43 percent of all seminal (strong) patents. Nokia individually controls a remarkable 16 percent of seminal patents and 26 percent of all standard essential patents in this space.

"The leading players in the 2G and 3G arena, including Nokia, Ericsson and Qualcomm, may have lost the battle of mind share, but they will exert outsized influence on market leaders such as Apple, Google, Samsung and HTC, who control today's mobile device and handset ecosystem," said Animesh Kumar, Chief Solutioning Officer of iRunway.

According to the report, 2G and 3G technology patents have been at the crux of ongoing patent wars and they will fuel a significant escalation in activity during the next five years as top patent holders seek to monetize their portfolios through aggressive licensing and litigation strategies. Leading patent holders have already launched initiatives against major competitors, with some having sold patent rights to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and Patent Assertion Entities (PAEs).

"It is highly likely, given the increasing pressure on these companies to generate revenue, that many will become more aggressive by entering into new agreements with 'patent privateers' to monetize their assets," said Animesh Kumar of iRunway. "The result will be a measurable increase in litigation and licensing, and additional possible acquisitions."

The report provides details on the number and category of overall, standard essential and seminal patents. It also delves into SMEs and PAEs that control a large percentage of seminal and standard essential patents. Nearly nine percent of seminal 2G and 3G patents are currently held by SMEs and PAEs, and approximately five percent of all standard essential patents for 2G and 3G are held by two companies Innovative Sonic Ltd and Vringo. This report also reveals that certain PAEs with key 2G and 3G patents have remarkably high patent monetization potential.

The city of Manila is poised for a dash of aesthetic lift as it embarks on another ambitious project: Wi-Fi equipped waiting sheds to accommodate the tribe of commuters who rely on the internet to ease boredom waiting for their rides.

In a couple of weeks, 12 innovative waiting sheds will be seen in strategic areas in the city as officials continue to employ various ideas in giving the city a new image, first by solving its horrendous traffic that has long plagued commuters.

Previously, the city reaped criticisms from commuters and bus operators who resisted a local policy that prohibited the entry of buses without existing terminals in the city. Officials later set the policy into an ordinance and bus companies have since filed for a Temporary Restraining Order against the new law.

Additional bus stops or loading and unloading areas have also been approved by the city council after it amended the citys traffic code to accommodate the policy on buses.

At the end of the day, we are answerable to you, Vice Mayor Francisco Isko Moreno Domagoso said referring to Manila residents whose expectations are divided as far as the new projects are concerned.

The question is the sustainability of the project. Will it go on for a long time or is it here because they are just starting their term? Darby, 23, a commuter said.

Aside from equipping the sheds with wifi, CCTV cameras will also be installed in them to thwart crime and monitor incidents occurring in and around the cutting-edge waiting areas.

The project is in partnership with a private consortium under a public private partnership agreement.

Domagoso, who is also chief of the Manila Traffic Council, earlier headed the installation of surveillance cameras in the following traffic-heavy areas: A. Villegas Street, perimeter of SM Manila, Plaza Lawton, Lawton Underpass, Ferry terminal, Jones Bridge, Manila Post Office, Quiapo bridge and Almeda street.

A POLICE helicopter and team of officers launched a manhunt in Biggin Hill on Sunday morning after reports of gunfire on land owned by the Chevening Estate.

Concerned residents saw the helicopter flying overhead shortly after 10am as the armed officers attempted to track down the source of the gunshots heard near Pimlico Wood.

A police helicopter was called to the reports of gunfire

The operation resulted in five men with shotguns being found between Main Road and Jail Lane, but it turned out they were carrying out pest control with licensed firearms.

A police spokesman confirmed two vehicles and the helicopter were called to the scene at 10.10am after calls from the public that shots were being fired nearby.

That said, female bed bugs can lay up to seven eggs per day, and to do that, they need blood. Once the nymphs hatch, they are on the hunt for blood.

Its difficult to know when one has been singled out by a bed bug, because their bite is painless; that said, the skin can become irritated, inflamed, and itchy, Horacio adds.
