City & Country Pest Control (http://www.cityandcountrypestcontrol.com), the leader in residential, industrial, and commercial pest eradication and humane wildlife and bird removal, is releasing its top tips for hiring a pest control company.
It can be daunting choosing a pest control company at the best of times, says Horacio Parreira, owner of City & Country Pest Control. For the most part, however, when people look for a pest control company, they generally need one right away. Unfortunately, this sense of urgency can often lead people into choosing a pest control company that may not be best suited to their needs.
While it might seem like a good idea to hire the first big-name pest control company that turns up in a search engine query on Google, Horacio explains, its important to remember that they have a high employee turnover rate, which can significantly affect the quality of service.
How can consumers be sure that the pest control company they hire will do a good job? Before anyone chooses a pest control company, the experts at City & Country Pest Control think there are a number of questions a customer needs to ask.
Its important to find out if the company and their staff are licensed. Just because pesticides are regulated by both the federal and provincial governments in Canada doesnt mean there arent unskilled do-it-yourself companies out there using off-the-shelf products that can actually make pest problems worse, Horacio notes. Its also important to find out if the companys employees take continuing education courses to keep up with the most recent advancements in the ever-evolving pest control industry.
According to Horacio, companies that provide a wide range of pest control services are more experienced in handling a variety of pest control issues. Thats why its important to ensure the chosen pest control experts have experience handling everything from ants, bedbugs, cockroaches, fleas, and wasps to birds, rodents, bats, raccoons, and skunks. In the end, its better to have one company with experience in dealing with a variety of pests.
A further consideration when hiring a pest control company, according to Horacio, is to verify that it has commercial liability insurance and Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) coverage. Not being adequately insured means a homeowner could be held liable for any injuries a worker sustains, or damages done to the property. Unfortunately, many pest control companies in the Greater Toronto Area do not have commercial liability insurance or WSIB coverage, Horacio notes.
City & Country Pest Control is a member in good standing with the National Pest Management Association International, the Canadian Pest Management Association, and the Structural Pest Management Association of Ontario.
People must make sure the pest control company theyre hiring has experience working with commercial, industrial, and residential properties; this means they have a thorough understanding of how to get rid of pests, Horacio adds. Ultimately, people need to get as much detailed information as they can on any pest control company theyre considering. The more information the company provides for their customers, the better.

MANTECA (CBS13) A Manteca couple says their air conditioner is making loud noises so they called their home warranty company.
When the company refused to fix or replace it, they called Kurtis.
They say their AC started acting up about a month ago but because it wasnt completely broken, American Home Shield wouldnt replace it.
So what can you do?
Its summer, the last thing you want is your air conditioner to go out, said Dan Dole, Manteca resident.
Dan and Jamie Dole say lately their air conditioner hasnt been sounding very good.
You can hear it when youre sitting at the dinner table, when youre watching TV, said Jamie.
Sounds either like theres a helicopter outside hovering above, said Dan.
They paid $530 for American Home Shields home warranty.
After paying the $60 service call fee, Dan says the tech didnt fix or replace the AC unit because despite the noise, it was actually working.

Many burglars target homes that look vacant. If the owner has not maintained the yard, taken the newspapers off the driveway, or given the overall impression of an occupied house, burglars are far more likely to attempt a break-in. In a recent blog post, Home Security Northwest, a home security systems provider, released tips on how homeowners can protect their houses while on vacation. The post analyses tips from the Oregon Home Improvement company, a business that specializes in home restoration and improvement.
The five tips given focus on how to make your house look occupied, since burglars are far more likely to target unoccupied homes. One suggestion is stopping the mail and newspaper. This eliminates obvious signs of a vacant house. The article also suggests homeowners hire a landscaper or a friend to mow and maintain the yard. Getting a family friend to house sit is one effective way to make a house look lived in. House sitters are a great deal, even if you have to pay them for their services, because it could prevent a break-in, and the average cost of a home burglary is over $2,000, according to post.
Other tips offered in the article include waiting to post about a vacation until homeowners return. Burglars are avid social media users, surprisingly, and they can use it to find potential targets. Although all these steps can effectively protect homes, the best way to prevent a break-in is through a home security system. Home Security Northwest provides affordable monitoring, 24 hour customer service, and local response for their customers. A picture of the truck used in a paving scam. (Boulder County Sheriff's Office)
The Boulder County Sheriff's Office has made two arrests in a driveway paving scam that has been moving across Colorado, including one case in Boulder in which someone paid $50,000 to have their driveway paved.
According to a news release, the scammers were in Boulder County in late 2012 and earlier this year, and deputies are currently investigating three cases.
Two people in the case were arrested Wednesday in relation to the case. Michael Sullivan, 55, a Boulder County resident, was arrested in Lognmont while Rodney Jackson, 53, was arrested in Montrose, both on suspicion of theft over $20,000 and crimes against at-risk adults. Both charges are felonies.
Both men are in custody at the Boulder County Jail on $20,000 bond.
Investigators said a person with a paving company tells a resident they have leftover asphalt from another job in the area and offer the resident a deal to pave their driveway, fill cracks or put a seal coat over existing pavement at a reduced cost.
Once the job is half done, the company says they will need more money to finish the job, and by the end of the job have significantly overcharged the resident. In one case, a Boulder County resident paid $50,000.
Officials said the group is not affiliated with any legitimate company. Their truck has "Asphalt Paving" on the door, and sometimes go by "Tri State." Their paperwork has "Asphalt Paving-Sealcoating-Crack filling; Contract-Receipt-Equipment & Bodily Damage Release" across the top.
The group has also reportedly tried the scam in Larimer County and on the Western Slope, and may be traveling form state to state, including Texas, Utah, Arizona and Nevada.
Anyone who has been contacted by this group is asked to contact Boulder County sheriff's Detective Brian Jones at 303-441-1681 or Detective Paul Dunphy at 303-441-3673.
