Roofing firm fined after worker paralysed

    11:00am Saturday 13th July 2013 in News

A ROOFING firm has been fined after a worker was left paralysed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair after he fell four metres through a hole in a roof.

Tego Roofing Ltd, of Monument Business Park, Chalgrove, was fined 10,000 and 9,640 in costs after pleading guilty at Swindon Magistrates Court on Tuesday to breaching construction regulations.

Giovanni Mastrodomenico, 56, from Swindon, fell through a waterproof membrane into an unguarded hole while working at Marlborough Park in Swindon on August 31, 2011. The Surrey-based principal contractor, Wates Construction Ltd, responsible for planning work during construction and ensuring there was a risk assessment in place, was fined 18,000 and 11,217 costs after pleading guilty to a separate breach of the regulations.

The Health and Safety Executive said Tego and Wates failed to provide adequate supervision or instruction to employees and that workers failed to identify the risk or warn others, including Mr Mastrodom-enico, of the hazard created by the removal of scaffolding boards covering the hole.

ReBath Northeast Enters into Partnership with Merillat Cabinets

    - July 12, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Forty Fort, PA (PRWEB) July 11, 2013

In preparation for its new kitchen department, Rome Enterprises and ReBath Northeast have entered into a partnership with Merillat Cabinets, a brand of Masco Cabinetry.

In the past, ReBath Northeast worked with Aristokraft to provide quality vanities for full bathroom remodels. While they had a great relationship with Aristokraft and liked the quality workmanship on the vanities, Rome Enterprises president, Rich Rome, decided that Merillats wide selection and quick turn-around time was what the company needed as it moves toward kitchen remodeling.

Rome believes that working with Merillat is a great opportunity because the Merillat brand is part of the Masco Corporation, a well-known company that has been around for in some form for over 70 years. Being a part of such a strong, well-known company helps small, local businesses become more successful, by giving them the chance to offer quality products.

The Masco Corporation is comprised of more than 20 companies, including Delta, Masco Bath and Brasstech.

For bathroom remodels, ReBath Northeast will be offering Merillats Classic line to its customers. Customers can choose from 19 different door styles, 5 wood species and 29 finishes. With the enormous variety that the Merillat Classic line offers, homeowners will have no trouble finding a vanity to match their style.

Merillat will be providing vanity cabinets, mirror trim and other types of bathroom cabinets for ReBath Northeast.

The vanities and other cabinets in ReBath Northeast's Forty Fort Design Center have already been swapped out and replaced by Merillat Classic cabinets so that customers can touch and feel Merillats quality craftsmanship.

In preparation for the 1 Week Kitchen showroom, a Merillat kitchen display has also been set up, using many different cabinet and drawer styles, a laminate counter top and stainless steel fixtures. The kitchen showroom will be finished within the next few weeks and estimators will begin visiting potential customers around the same time.

ReBath Northeast offers more than vanity installation. Their installers can complete a full bathroom remodel, including a tub or shower replacement, toilet, wainscoting and the vanity in as little as two days.

5 Tips to Make Summer Home Renovations Pay Off

    - July 12, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

NEW YORK (MainStreet)Younger homeowners are likely planning renovations this summer, according to a new study, with some improvements benefitting property values more than others.

p>The Zillow Digs Summer Home Improvement Trend and Spending survey found that 71% of those aged 18 to 34 plan a home improvement or addition compared to 51% of homeowners 55 and older.

The survey found that 40% plan to work on their outdoor spaces while 17 percent plan to improve their bathrooms.

"As we head into the long days of summer, we are seeing increased interest in outdoor spaces with very natural elements such as stone fireplaces as well as bringing more light into bathrooms with clear glass on the walls and shower enclosures," said Cynthia Nowak, a trend expert with Zillow Digs.

Overall, 60% of American homeowners plan renovations and expect to spend $1,200 with 65% of homes housing children planning three or more home improvements compared to 57% of homes without children.

But not all home improvements pay off and positively impact property values, according to the Appraisal Institute, a professional association of real estate appraisers.

Siding replacement, entry door replacement, attic bedroom addition, minor kitchen remodel and garage door replacement rank among the projects with the highest expected return on investment, according to Remodeling magazine's most recent Cost vs. Value report.

"Projects that take a home significantly beyond community norms are often not worth the cost when the owner sells the home," said Appraisal Institute President Richard L. Borges. "If they don't match what's standard in a community, they're considered excessive."

Other renovations with high expected pay-offs include basement remodel, deck addition and window replacement.

"Consumers should be aware that cost does not necessarily equal value," Borges said.
