FERGUSON, Mo. (KSDK) - The tornado that swept through parts of the bi-state last weekend has turned into an expensive nightmare for an 83-year-old Ferguson woman.

We got the tip about this story from an official with the Monarch Fire Department. The woman whoclaims she was scammed is his mother-in-law.

Alene Tow got an estimate from one tree removal company Friday to clear her roof after the tornado that ripped through north St. Louis County last weekend. Before that company could start work, someone else came and removed a small pile of trees and debris.

"So I just assumed they were the ones that the other man was sending for me," Tow says.

The men were from Will's Tree Service, a company with two out of town phone numbers.

Tow says the shocker came after they finished: "$750 when the other man was only going to charge me $150...He came and sat on the end of the chair there and watched me make out a check. And I was so nervous that instead of putting $750, I put $705."

She says they came back and she wrote another check.

"I didn't notice until later that when I handed him the new one, he laid it down on the table. Evidently he picked the one that I had made out wrong right up with the new one and took them both."

She called her daughter Marjorie Herin.

"She was crying and immediately I called the bank and cancelled one of the checks," Herin says. "But I didn't realize until later that they had gotten two checks. By the time we got to the bank Saturday morning, one had already been cashed."

Gas water heating system fast and efficient for dairy sheds

A new gas water heating system for New Zealand dairy sheds is designed to reduce costs and improve flexibility for the farmer.

The Bosch dairy hot water system is now available through Longveld On Farm in a collaboration between Longveld and Bosch Hot Water & Heating Division.

The two companies have been developing the system for the past 12 months using the Bosch 32 continuous flow commercial water heater and Longveld On Farms engineering and installation capabilities.

It is being demonstrated for the first time at a Waikato dairy farm near Tuhikaramea on Wednesday 12th June with another demonstration the following day at a Pongakawa farm in the Bay of Plenty.

The exclusive New Zealand distributor and installer is Longveld On Farm, a division of Longveld.

Longveld Managing Director, Les Roa, says the new system is a New Zealand first and will enable farmers to improve their overall efficiency.

Two senior representatives of Bosch are visiting New Zealand for the occasion. They are Mr Michael Kopka, Bosch Thermotechnology Regional President - Asia Pacific who has come out from Shanghai and Mr JoaoPaulo Oliveira, Bosch Thermotechnology Global President - Domestic Hot Water Division, from Aveiro, Portugal.

MOORE, Okla. Many homes are faced with damages or destruction following the tornado outbreaks in Oklahoma.

To help families keep salvaged belongings in a safe place, the Presbyterian Church of North America has launched Sheds of Hope, a campaign working to build free permanent storage for people in need.

A 10-by-10 foot shed could be used for storing your tools, knickknacks and other belongings you might not look at for years but right now in Moore, sheds are representing hope, a place where residents can put their valuables, spared by the recent tornadoes.

They put their things that they can lock securely so that they know theyre on their own property, theyre not in some storage place or in some compartment crammed in their car, Killian said.

Daniel Killian with Sheds of Hope and a small army of volunteers are working to help rebuild Moore, one free shed at a time.

Jerry James has been spending time with the volunteers, as they worked to construct a shed for his daughters house, which was heavily damaged by the May 20 twister.

She didnt have insurance at the time of the storm and this outpouring that people are putting out here for everybody and anybody that needs help is just fantastic, James said.

This is the second time Sheds of Hope has built a shed for Jamess daughter.

The first one was taken down by the heavy winds brought on by the May 31 storm, another bump in the road but not scaring away James family.
