It has been reported in H&V News that the survey, commissioned by Swinton Commercial, used a sample of 100 tradesmen and women from all over the country. 22% of respondents claimed that as much as 84% of their workload comes from fixing DIY disasters. Over a quarter of those surveyed said they were regularly called out to incidents at business premises and all agreed that over ambitious DIYers were risking the health of themselves and of those around them. Further to this, 100% believed that the main reasons people undertake DIY jobs themselves are because they think it will be cheaper than outsourcing it or because they are afraid of falling victim to rogue traders.
Commenting on the findings, Swinton Commercial National Business Development Manager, Alastair Denness said, the results of the study are troubling, showing that UK plumbers are seeing a trend in people undertaking technically demanding and potentially dangerous DIY jobs in order to cut costs.

Emergency Plumber Responds to New DIY Survey

A plumber was hacked to death allegedly by a co-worker in Electronics City police station limits late Saturday night.
The victim Nagappa, 45, was from Venkatagiri Kota village in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. Three workers from VenkatagiriKota Nagappa, Krishnappa and Seethappa had come to the City to eke out a living five days ago.
They were employed by a contractor Bhupal, who had taken up the construction of Arpitha apartments on Neeladri Road in Electronics City. Four floors of the apartment have already been constructed and the plumbing work was in progress. All the three worked as plumbers and were staying in a room in the apartment, the police said.
Bhupal made a payment of Rs 2,000 to the plumbers for the first weeks work, asking them to distribute the money equally among themselves. The trio went to a bar, consumed liquor and returned to their room.
Later, Krishnappa and Nagappa fought over the distribution of the money. Krishnappa allegedly overpowered Nagappa, pinned him to the ground and attacked him with a hammer. Nagappa sustained injuries on the head and in the left ear and died on the spot. Krishnappa fled after realising that his colleague was dead, police said.
The third plumber Seethappa said: They had a heated argument and I tried in vain to calm them. Moreover, it was too hot and humid inside.Therefore, I went out of the room and slept outside. I woke up on Sunday morning and returned to my room. I saw Nagappa lying in a pool of blood. I informed the construction supervisor and subsequently, the police.
Electronics City police, who have registered a case of murder, have sent a team to VenkatagiriKota to nab Krishnappa.

Plumber from Chittoor hammered to death
A 45-year-old plumber was allegedly murdered by his colleague in an apartment complex on Neeladri Road in Electronic City here on Saturday night.
The victim, Nagappa, a native of Venkatagirikota in Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh, was staying with his co-workers in the apartment where they had been hired to undertake plumbing work.
Nagappa and one of his co-workers, Krishna, had an argument over their salary during which Krishna, in a fit of rage, used a hammer to hit Nagappa on the left ear and on the left side of his head. Nagappa, who suffered grievous injuries, died later in the night, while Krishna fled the scene.
The incident came to light on Sunday morning when the construction supervisor entered the apartment and saw Nagappas body in a pool of blood. He immediately informed the police who rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem.
The Electronic City police, who have registered a case, are on the lookout for Krishna.
Assaulted
The Basaveshwaranagar police arrested a man for allegedly assaulting a 28-year-old homemaker after he made an attempt to snatch her chain at her residence here on Saturday.
The homemaker, Bhavya, who lives with her husband, Muni Reddy, on Basaveshwarnagar 8th cross, was alone at her house when the accused Balasubrahmanya, a family friend, dropped in on Friday night.
When he tried to grab her chain, the woman resisted and raised an alarm. Balasubrahmanya allegedly used a knife to assault her before fleeing.
Meanwhile, residents and neighbours rushed Bhavya to a hospital.
