It has been reported in HVP that fellow organisations, the Worshipful Company of Plumbers (WCP) and the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) have joined forces with the CIPHE to create the Leadwork Conservation Network Group. It comes out of concern that the skills shortage situation could worsen as colleges no longer teach lead plumbing, an essential skill for repairs to historical buildings. Officially launched 15th May at the House of Lords, the group is expected to work with established conservation organisations and government departments in an attempt to set new professional conservation standards.
Commenting on the new partnership, Chief Executive, Kevin Wellman explains that it is very worrying that leadwork has been dropped from the curriculum for plumbing standards.

Emergency Plumber Responds to Announcement from the CIPHE
VANCOUVER - West End resident Lauren McLaren was startled awake early Wednesday morning by a massive explosion that shattered windows in her first-floor apartment.
The shocked woman ran outside where people on the street were screaming after a parked car exploded in the 800-block of Nicola Street and erupted in flames, scattering debris for a block and causing damage to surrounding apartment buildings.
The car's hood was metres away in a tree, the lower windows in at least four apartment buildings were smashed and the street was littered with the contents of the wrecked car.
The explosion was caused by a leaking acetylene gas tank stored in a Toyota Matrix by a plumber identified in several reports as Michel Hachey whom police said was unbelievably fortunate to have survived the blast.

When the loud bang rocked her apartment and she heard the glass shatter, McLaren leaped out of bed to see what happened. Four windows in her condo were blown out and she said if it hadn't been for the blinds in her bedroom, glass could have hit her bed while she was sleeping.
"I didn't think it was real," she said. "The car was flaming ... people were screaming in the street."
The air was filled with the stench of burning rubber and plastic, she said.
McLaren, who was alone at the time, said she then went outside and saw two people with glass in their faces and cut hands.
Ambulances arrived and took the two men to hospital. She said they had been in a car travelling south on Nicola Street and had just passed the parked car when it exploded.

Len the Plumber will host a spring picnic on May 23, 2013 at The Baltimore Station. This event is the third event they have hosted since 2012 and one they will continue to hold every year. Len the Plumber staff and their family members will spend time with the residents participating in the program by not only serving the food but also sitting down and sharing their meal and dinner time conversation.
The Baltimore Station is a local residential treatment center established in 1987 for the purpose of supporting men as they transition from addiction, poverty, and/or homelessness to self-sufficiency. The majority of the residents they serve are veterans. The difference between The Baltimore Station and other recovery centers is that they not only help residents end substance abuse; they work with them to transform their entire life by teaching them life skills, personal responsibility, and improved decision making. This process is introduced in three phases that can take up to two years to complete.
Len Bush explained why The Baltimore Station was an organization he chose to support, When I first learned about The Baltimore Station, I was truly impressed with the results they got; a 65% success rate. They provide everything from continuing education to job placement and help these men get back on their feet.
