Timber - Tree removal
Taking out the hemlocks in front of the house. These trees were full grown when we bought the place over 40 years ago, and I have mixed emotions about taking them out. The risk to property and life is too great now to keep them. They will be missed.

Intricate tile work decorates Piedmont home

KENILWORTH A sprinkler system and a quick fire-department response stopped an intense fire from burning a massive commercial building where escalators are manufactured, said officials this morning.

The fire started at 3:25 a.m. on the roof of the North Michigan Avenue building which is about 100 feet by 800 feet, said Chief Louis Giordino.

About 40 feet of the roof was engulfed in flames at one point, Giordino said.

But the sprinkler system was activated by the heat, and it kept the flames from spreading down to the building below as well as notifying the fire department automatically about the blaze, he added.

It had a pretty good head start, but we got there quick and there was the sprinkler system, the chief said.

The fire was brought under control about 4:15 a.m., Giordino said. The "massive" building was not occupied at the time and there were no injuries reported, he added.

The cause is still under investigation, Giordino said.

Kenilworth fire at escalator manufacturer stopped by sprinkler system, quick firefighters

SALISBURY, Md. - Fire Marshals confirm that an apartment that caught fire on Feb. 24th didn't have a sprinkler system.

Investigators say the fire started on the second floor of Pemberton Manor apartment building, causing about $75,000 in damages and displacing 16 people.

"The benefit of the sprinkler system, it's not so much to put the fire out, although it often does, they're more so designed to allow more time for people to get out," said Kirby Travers, Deputy State Fire Marshall.

Travers also says Pemberton Manor was not in violation of fire safety code, since their complex was built years before and falls under the code set back when the building was originally built.

We reached out to Pemberton Manor for comment, but we're still waiting for them to return our phone calls.

UPDATE: No Sprinkler System In Pemberton Manor Fire

More than 4,400 books were ruined and a school day canceled after a sprinkler system erroneously flooded a portion of the Meeteetse library on Sunday afternoon.

The damage at the Park County-run library located inside the Meeteetse school was generally limited to a section containing Western novels and non-fiction books, along with a nearby school classroom (see photos at the bottom of this article).

Meeteetse Assistant Principal Cory Dziowgo said the fire suppression system worked like its supposed to. Unfortunately, the system had been activated in error by a malfunctioning heating unit.

There wasnt an actual fire, it just overheated, Dziowgo said.

Park County Library Director Frances Clymer said the roof-mounted unit began pouring hot air into the library and the sprinkler valve closest to the air vent broke open.

Then it spewed, I believe, over 1,000 gallons of water into the building, Clymer said.

That wasnt because of a slow response time.

Dziowgo who also is a member of the Meeteetse Volunteer Fire Department said the firemen had the sprinklers shut off within five to 10 minutes of the system tripping.

Clymer praised Park County Buildings and Grounds, the Meeteetse school district facilities crew and Varney Clean Care for their prompt response after the flooding.

They really got a handle on it very quickly, Clymer said. I was real impressed with their responsiveness.

GRAHAM Fellows, creator of Sheffields sage man of song and life-skills tips John Shuttleworth, is thinking equally about a converted church and sheds at present.

On the one hand, Graham is undertaking the renovation and conversion of a church on Rousay, a hilly island three miles north of Orkneys mainland in the north of Scotland.

On the other, he is on his travels with alter ego Shuttleworths latest show, Out Of Our Sheds, whose progress around Britain brings him to the Grand Opera House, York, next Wednesday (March 6).

The Press caught up with Graham as he was about to catch the Rousay ferry after a day of Orkney paperwork. Ive been running around trying to finalise my grant, he says. Overseeing the renovation is very unromantic compared to my original thoughts on the project.

Then he perks up. Having said that, he says, suddenly as positive as his philosopher of the mundane, Shuttleworth, Its going to be wonderful and a big success with a recording studio and space for recuperation and itll be available for hire.

Then Graham thinks again. At least I hope itll become a success as a recording studio, but there are studios now closing down or turning into yoga centres. Hopefully people will find it appealing to record in the quiet up here because theres nothing to do on this island! he says.

Theres no ferry on a Sunday in the winter and the last ferry daily to get back to the mainland is 6.05pmbut it will be a lovely place to record and maybe that might be the only way some people might visit the Orkneys.

Graham says that to be honest I come up here to be on my own, but then he has to return to the world of John Shuttleworth, the former sweet factory security guard turned organ-playing club act.
