Keeping a Home Security System in Great Working Condition – Tip Sheet by SecuritySystemReviews.com

    - February 20, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Houston, TX (PRWEB) February 19, 2013

A home security system can offer a home and its residents invaluable security and protection, from loss of possessions to personal safety, but just as with most items in a home, a security system has to be properly maintained. When a homeowner neglects to maintain a security system, it can mean the system fails to operate properly, which leaves the members of the household unprotected against potential threats. Many security system companies recommend that system owners take regular steps to ensure that the security system is maintained. Even the best security system requires regular maintenance, to ensure the system is in proper working order at all times.

The security and safety team at SecuritySystemReviews.com, a site that provides reviews of the best home security systems and home security system coupons, created a list of things homeowners can do to keep their home security system working at its peak performance level.

1.Members of the household should perform a regular test on the alarm at least once a month. Most security system companies will place a system on test if a homeowner or resident chooses to test the system, and this will allow the members of the household to perform alarm checks on each area of the security system. In addition to tripping all of the alarms in the house, the alarm system can alert the person performing the test of whether or not the signals came through clearly to the response center during the test, if the company is aware a testing is happening.

2.Keep the keypads and sensors of the alarm system clean from dust and debris. Just as other electronic equipment in the home should be dusted regularly, so should these components of the security system, to keep them working properly. To clean a keypad or sensors, simply wipe them clean with a dry, soft cloth. Avoid ever spraying water or cleaning products on the keypad or security system sensors.

    3. Its a good idea to schedule a yearly maintenance check-up with an alarm system professional. During this time its likely that the professional will perform checks on the system, including checking cables for signs of damage or wear, making sure all cable connections are securely fastened, and checking for system corrosion. This is also a good time to have a professional clean smoke and motion detectors, and replace any contacts.

4.When an alarm system is installed, its best to ask the company or technician what types of maintenance the particular system requires. Some systems allow for a good deal of the maintenance work to be done by the system owner, while other systems require most maintenance to be performed by a professional. Either way, knowing what maintenance needs to be performed will allow the homeowner to plan ahead and keep the system working at a peak performance level, adding value and protection to the system.

Monitronics Home Security System Reviewed By TopConsumerReviews.com

    - February 20, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Overland Park, KS (PRWEB) February 19, 2013

TopConsumerReviews.com recently reviewed the Monitronics home security system. TopConsumerReviews.com provides independent reviews for thousands of products including home security systems in order to help consumers make well informed decisions.

Monitronics has been in the home security business for nearly 20 years and currently serves around 700,000 clients. This Texas based company uses local dealers and distributors to work with home security customers and provides very little detail via their website.

A variety of home security equipment manufacturers are used by Monitronics. Often the brand and type are dependent on each dealer and their location. For homeowners interested in Monitronics, the process starts with a visit by a home security advisor to assess the homeowners individual needs. The potential home security costs and affordability are determined once the home security analysis has been completed, which details such things as the number of entry points required and the type of notifications needed.

One benefit to the Monitronics service model is that they are often able to work with an existing homes security system. With their expertise in a variety of home security systems, theyre often able to enhance or modify, as needed, and potentially transfer the home security monitoring service to Monitronics.

Monitronics offers an interactive system through some of their distributorships that allows residents to access the home via the internet. Additional options may include the ability to adjust lighting, temperature and other appliances while away from the home. All equipment comes with a lifetime guarantee but may be limited to periods in which proprietary monitoring service is being utilized. Most contract terms at Monitronics are 36 months in length.

Home Security System Features Most Important to Consumers According to 6Webs.com

    - February 20, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

6Webs.com releases their list of the most important features consumers are looking for when in the market for a home security system.

Fort Worth, TX (PRWEB) February 19, 2013

Tim Smythe, the senior editor from 6Webs.com states, The 6Webs.com review team receives feedback from speaking to a lot of customers and home security shoppers. Over the years the features most important to consumers have changed some but reliability always remains at the top of the list. Home security companies are expanding more into home automation and building smarter systems, which translates into consumers wanting the latest and greatest set of features. A big feature this year is mobile access from an iPhone, iPad or Android device. Recently there has been more demand for the convenience features.

Most important features to consumers according to 6Webs.com are:

    1. Reliable 24/7 Monitoring Services: A home security system is great but it is the monitoring services that respond to an intrusion, fire or dangerous levels of carbon monoxide. Consumers not only save more on their homeowners insurance by selecting a home security company to provide monitoring services but also have an added peace of mind that their home is being monitored 24 hours a day.

    2. Equipment and Warranty: The home security system is only as good as its equipment so consumers prefer brand name equipment from companies like GE, Honeywell and 2Gig. Every home security system should come with a warranty and all of the top providers ranked on 6Webs.com provide a minimum of a two-year warranty.

    3. Cellular Monitoring Services: The days of using a phone line to communicate to the home security companys monitoring station are no longer in demand. Consumers want cellular monitoring services because it uses a reliable GSM connection and it is not susceptible to having its wires cut by a burglar outside of the home. Those consumers who have watched the popular movie Panic Room in the 90s know that phone lines can be cut.

    4. Accessibility: Accessing the home security system from the home or while on the go is in high demand. Remotely arming and disarming the home security system, receiving text message alerts or streaming video to a smartphone are just some of the capabilities consumers are wanting when purchasing a home security system.

Feng Shui predictions for market outlook 2013

    - February 20, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Posted on February 20, 2013, Wednesday

I like to wish all The Borneo Post readers a happy, fulfilling and enriching Chinese New Year.

Recently I read with interest some online articles with the above caption. There are magazines that also came up with such articles as well. Feng Shui seems to be getting popular judging from the books published on the subject in the past few years.

I am not a big fan of Feng Shui yet, but I also do not dismiss it altogether. I guess there must be something about it that has enabled it to survive a few thousand years. If not, it would have vanished long ago.

Take Feng Shuis prediction about the economic and market outlook as a reference is fine, as long as we apply my earlier suggestion to enable you to think more clearly in investing (my article published in this column on January 2, 2013 ).

That is to start your thinking with the phrase, Lets put this (info) in perspective when you are trying to digest the Feng Shuis economic and market predictions that you read about in newspapers and magazines.

Hopefully, you will then be able to think more objectively and form a more balanced view.

    Disclaimer statement

I found one very famous economic and market prediction index using Feng Shui methods. It is published by CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets (CLSA) Asias leading independent brokerage and investment group.

Fences go up around Old Main

    - February 20, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

By WHITNEY BURGOYNE Published February 19, 2013 at 7:23pm Updated February 19, 2013 at 7:23pm

Fences surrounding Old Main means the beginning of construction to the oldest building on campus.

The overall cost of the project is budgeted for approximately $13.5 million, according to Lorna Gray, facilities project manager of Planning, Design and Construction.

Construction on the exterior of the building will begin in a few days, Gray said. Their top priority as of now is to rebuild the columns so they are structurally sound. The original brick will be used in the modifications, she added.

They will be rebuilding the deck using new wood to ensure safety and strength. Finally, the roofing will be assessed and remodeled, according to Gray.

The structure of the roof will remain as-is. However, because the original shingles were made of lead due to the process the original constructors used when the building was first built in 1891, new metal shingles will replace the old ones.

Construction is estimated to be finished in the summer of 2014.
