Feng shui experts: Year of the Snake to bring market gains, disaster risk

    - February 7, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

HONG KONG - The coming Year of the Snake will see financial markets slither higher as optimism grows, although the risk of disasters and territorial disputes in Asia also looms, say practitioners of the ancient Chinese art of feng shui.

Believers in the Chinese form of geomancy maintain the universe is made up of five elements -- earth, water, fire, wood and metal -- that define the collective mood in the world.

The Snake year starting on Feb 10 contains much fire, which brings energy, but also water, which tempers more negative fire traits.

"We will see a lot of positive energy coming and people will have more confidence in economic recovery," said feng shui master Raymond Lo, adding that a lack of the fire element led to financial woes and doomsday speculation over the last few years.

"The stock market is already going up. Even stronger fire will come in 2014, the Year of the Horse, and that means longer-term recovery could be quite substantial and will last for a few years," he said.

Your feng shui forecast for the Year of the Water Snake

    - February 7, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, but it might be best not to get your hopes up too much. According to one feng shui master, the Year of the Water Snake is a good year financially, but not for romance.

"For relationships, people should not expect too much in this year. They should concentrate on work," geomancer Joseph Chau said during a press conference at Mandarin Oriental on January 28.

According to Chau's forecasts, this is not a good year for love affairs for those born in the year of the Snake, Goat, Rooster, Rat, and Ox.

On the other hand, the romantic star shines bright for those born in the year of the Horse, Dog, Tiger, Rabbit, and Dragon. For those born in the year of the Monkey, romantic sparks are ignited easily, but married Monkeys must avoid extramarital affairs, Chau said.

However, Chau stressed that the forecasts do not determine what will actually happen. For instance, there is a marriage star in 2013 for President Benigno Aquino III, who was born in the year of the Rat. But as Chau said, "it depends on the President to make decisions. We cannot say anything. We cannot decide for him."

Feng Shui Index provides 'tongue in cheek' option

    - February 7, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Hong Kong (China Daily/ANN) - Prediction is as hard as it gets. Most people, however competent they are in the present, have little clue when it comes to the future.

That explains why Pele, the king of soccer, has failed every time he predicted his game's World Cup champion and the world didn't end as the legend from Maya people said it would.

Where people fail in prediction, superstition comes in, such as when soccer fans turned to Paul the octopus to pick winners in the last World Cup.

Unlike sports, however, people are normally very serious when it comes to investing their money. But some people have started resorting to unconventional sources of investment advice, perhaps after being overwhelmed by the unpredictable capital market.

One of those markets is CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets, which on Wednesday published its Feng Shui Index 2013, trying to predict the ups and downs of the Hang Seng Index based on the principles of feng shui, a Chinese practice that is widely believed to be a pseudo-science.

Feng shui is a Chinese system of geomancy believed to use the laws of both Heaven and Earth to help one improve life by receiving positive qi.

Foundation theories of feng shui include yin and yang, which works similar to a magnetic dipole, the Five Elements or Forces, which are metal, earth, fire, water, and wood and qi, a movable positive or negative life force.

CLSA admits the Feng Shui Index is offered "with our tongues firmly in our cheeks".

So there is little sympathy if investors are broken at the end of the year after making investment decisions based on the index.

Mariana Kou, a CLSA research analyst and self-proclaimed feng shui master, believes that this year, the "Water Snake" year, will see the Hang Seng Index perform better than last year.

Feng shui says Snake year to bring market gains, disaster risk

    - February 7, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

HONG KONG (Reuters) - The coming Year of the Snake will see financial markets slither higher as optimism grows, although the risk of disasters and territorial disputes in Asia also looms, say practitioners of the ancient Chinese art of feng shui.

Believers in the Chinese form of geomancy maintain the universe is made up of five elements -- earth, water, fire, wood and metal -- that define the collective mood in the world.

"The stock market is already going up. Even stronger fire will come in 2014, the Year of the Horse, and that means longer-term recovery could be quite substantial and will last for a few years," he said.

Global stocks climbed to their highest in nearly two years last Friday, helped by upbeat manufacturing and employment data that signalled a recovery is on track.

Lai Hon-fai, another seer in the Asian financial centre, agrees that the even more promising Year of the Horse could further boost Hong Kong's benchmark stock index, the Hang Seng.

"The Hang Seng index will reach 24,000 to 25,000 by the end of the Snake year, higher than its current level," he said. It stood at 23,214.40 on Thursday morning.

Indeed, most economies have now turned a corner, although Europe may still need two more years to bottom out, said Peter So, a pony-tailed feng shui master.

"Water-related stocks will flourish, including banking, finance, trade, shipping, tourism, and even gambling shares," he said.

Babri demolition case: SC pulls up CBI.
The Supreme Court on Thursday (Feb 7) questioned the CBI for the delay in filing an appeal against the Allahabad High Court verdict on dropping conspiracy charges against senior BJP leader LK Advani and others in Babri demolition case. The court turned down the CBI #39;s plea to file a fresh affidavit in the case. The apex Court also pulled up CBI for terming Babri Masjid demolition as a national crime. "You can #39;t say it is a national crime till we or trial court decides this way or the other," it said.
