Alberta man offers $500 reward for stolen outhouse

    - January 9, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

An Alberta man is perplexed after thieves made off with a large outhouse from his farm near Edmonton but he doesn't plan to take the crime sitting down.

I think at least four to six guys had to come here to do this two guys? No way they could do this, said Randy Nemirsky, as he stood at the edge of the hole where the outhouse used to stand.

The farm near Lamont, about 60 kilometres east of Edmonton, has been in the family for nearly 90 years. Last summer Nemirsky and his son Nick tore down the original outhouse, which had been built in 1936, and rebuilt it.

We planned this summer to rebuild the old outhouse there and we dug the hole and it was a whole summer project.

The new structure was meant to be a major improvement to the farm and was finished in August. But when the family returned to the property in the fall, they found the outhouse missing, with the hole in the ground and a few scattered boards as the only sign anything had stood there.

I got a phone call [from Nick] He said, 'The outhouse is missing,'" said Nemirsky.

    I said, 'What?'

He says the outhouse wasnt just a flimsy structure it was bolted to the ground and weighed between 350 and 450 kilograms. A large picnic table was also taken.

Nemirsky says while the theft may be unusual, its not a laughing matter. Between building, painting and siding the outhouse, he suspects he's out about $1,000.

You spent time building it, and where do you go now?

Beacon Roofing Supply, Inc. ( BECN ) has promoted Rick Welker to the position of acting chief financial officer (CFO), replacing David Grace who retired at the end of last year. With this news, shares of Beacon Roofing hit their 52-week high of $34.45 on January 2, 2013.

An executive recruiting firm is assisting the company in finding a permanent replacement for David Grace. Welker joined Beacon Roofing as Corporate Controller in 2004. He has been serving as the company's vice president since February 2006 and as the chief accounting officer.

Rick Welker has the experience and technical abilities suited for the role during the transition period. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Management Accountant. Welker holds a BSBA degree from Western New England University and was awarded with outstanding accounting major by the WNEU faculty and the Massachusetts Society of CPAs. Welker also holds an MBA in International Business from the University of Connecticut.

During his tenure in Beacon Roofing, Welker has helped build a capable finance team, including the divisional and regional controllers across North America to execute acquisitions. He has played an integral role in Beacon Roofing's transformation to a successful public company and in its substantial growth over the years.

Acquisitions are an important part of Beacon Roofing's growth strategy. The company's prime focus is to target market leaders in geographic areas where it does not have a presence. Beacon Roofing also acquires companies to supplement branch openings within existing markets. Beacon Roofing remains fairly active on the acquisition front and we expect the acquisitions to continue at an accelerated pace in the near term.

Both U.S. residential and non-residential construction sectors are finally stabilizing and are on the road to a much-awaited recovery, which bodes well for the Beacon Roofing. Demand for re-roofing is also on the rise given an aging U.S. housing stock. Beacon Roofing currently maintains a Zacks #3 Rank (Hold) over the short term.

This move has been appreciated by the market as is evident from the recent rise in shares. The selection of an able candidate as a permanent successor will surely lend support to the stock and improve investor sentiment.

Beacon Roofing is a leading distributor of roofing materials and complementary building products. It currently operates 229 branches encompassing 38 states in the United States and Canada. Lumber Liquidators Holdings, Inc. ( LL ), Tile Shop Holdings, Inc. ( TTS ) are other Zacks #3 Rank stocks in the same industry.

Premier Sacramento Roofing Company Says Winterize Your Home Now from Wind Gusts and Rain

Premier Sacramento Roofing Company Says Winterize Your Home Now from Wind Gusts and Rain

Yancey Home Improvements, a Sacramento Roofing and Remodeling Company, Encourages Being Prepared for Mother Natures Harsh Winters in 2013.

Too many times people wait until the last possible second to get their roof fixed, President Tom Yancey said. This can lead to a total roof replacement and thousands of dollars in cost.

Homeowners should check on their roof at least once a year for common problems. Areas where the shingles are loose, chipped or gone need to be replaced before water seeps in and causes damage to the inside of their home. The California winds are notorious for contributing to a roof's demise by ripping shingles off or loosening nails.

Homeowners need to keep an eye on the inside of the home as well. Dark spots on the ceiling, drooping ceiling tiles and leaks can mean major problems to not only the roof, but the ceiling and support beams as well. Over time, they can begin to rot, become moldy and eventually collapse.

People don't often look at the roof, and so they think everything is all right until something begins to happen inside the home, Yancey said. Even then, they may wait weeks or even months before calling a roofing contractor.

The key to superior roof repairs is to hire a contractor with a good reputation that you can trust. Always look for Sacramento roofing contractors established in the area with decades of experience.

A reputable company will visit the home and provide a free estimate on what the homeowner needs and how much it will cost. They'll sit down and go through the estimate with a fine-toothed comb to make sure the customer understands every aspect of the repair. Yancey also guarantees its work and will always listen to any complaints and problems that homeowners may have.

Customer satisfaction is our greatest achievement, Yancey said. We have people that come to us for roof repairs and end up choosing us for various remodeling tasks because they know and understand our pledge to our customers.

Solar Water Heater Installation in the US Industry Market Research Report Now Available from IBISWorld

    - January 9, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

In the next five years, revenue growth is forecast to strengthen on the back of rising corporate profit, booming housing starts and technological advances that will make solar water heaters more economical. For these reasons, industry research firm IBISWorld has added a report on the Solar Water Heater Installation industry to its growing industry report collection.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 06, 2013

Nearly 80.0% of Solar Water Heater Installation industry revenue comes from residential installations; therefore, the health of the residential housing market plays a large part in determining the fate of solar water heater installers. The solar water heater installation industry was hurt by a decline in the number of housing starts and falling renovation rates during the past five years, adds Samadi. The reduction in new homes resulted in fewer opportunities for solar water heaters to be installed in new construction projects and discouraged existing homeowners from investing in solar thermal upgrades. Extremely low barriers to entry make the industry a highly fragmented one, with a low level of concentration. IBISWorld estimates that the overwhelming majority of firms are independently owned and operate over small geographic areas. Solar water heater systems may be installed by a single person, meaning that nonemployer firms are able to compete effectively in the industry as well. Moving forward, the industry is expected to become even more fragmented as an increasing number of general construction firms enter the industry and learn the required skills to market and install solar water heater systems.

Through 2018, revenue growth is forecast to strengthen. Industry growth could be higher, but the regulatory policies that have been so favorable for the industry remain uncertain in light of an unresolved federal budgetary deficit. Still, the revival of the corporate sector is anticipated to create the most demand for solar thermal installations as corporate profit continues to recover from recessionary lows, technological advances continue to make solar water heaters more economical when compared with natural gas, and companies seek to present themselves as environmentally friendly. IBISWorld industry Report Key Topics

Firms in this industry install solar water heater systems as part of general residential and commercial contracting services. These firms are contracted either directly by the customer or by solar marketing firms that arrange a buyer for solar thermal systems and contract an industry firm to carry out the work.
