Flambeaux by Peter Chin
Peter Chin #39;s Flambeaux, produced by the Peterborough Festival of the Arts on August 13, 1989 in Peterborough, Ontario. Excerpts from the full-length production, filmed by Giovanni Sampagna and Claude MacIsaac. The publicity said DANCERS, DRUMMERS, TORCHES SIDEWALK SURFERS WILL TRANSFORM THE USUAL SIGHTS, SOUNDS SMELLS OF URBAN STREET LIFE INTO A RHYTHMIC DANCE SPECTACLE. Set in a downtown parking lot adjacent to an empty building slated for demolition (see more about the location below), Flambeaux was all that and more. Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist Peter Chin was commissioned by the Peterborough Festival of the Arts (PFA) to create an event that would involve the community as participants, much as his previous outdoor spectacle produced in Peterborough, 1987 #39;s Circle of Fire, had done. The PFA was also fresh from the success of producing the epic R. Murray Schafer extravaganza "The Greatest Show" the previous summer (in which Peter performed and choreographed), and was looking for another, albeit less taxing, event to offer the Peterborough public. If the PFA wanted spectacle on a budget, Peter Chin, a wunderkind on the Toronto dance and music scene whose star was on the rise, was the one to deliver. For Flambeaux Peter choreographed, composed the music and directed the entire production. Certainly the many local performers added colour to the production (notably seen here: Ron Gaskin with his green #39;69 Cougar at 1:16; David Ramsden in two roles, including a ...From:publicenergyvaultViews:2 0ratingsTime:09:41More inEntertainment

Mudslide could cost elderly Aberdeen (Washington) Woman Her Home
ABERDEEN, Wash. -- An Aberdeen woman is fighting to keep her home after a November mudslide made it uninhabitable. City officials have marked Sharon Stanley #39;s home for demolition, and her insurance agency is refusing pay out her claim. Stanley had to abandon the house November 19 after heavy rains caused a mudslide that sent the house several feet down a hill. "I don #39;t know what I #39;m going to do. I hate to just lose everything," she said. Stanley #39;s doing all she can to keep the house, but news has not been good. "It #39;s the city #39;s position that the dwelling is beyond repair and will need to be demolished," said city code enforcer Ray Olson. If it wasn #39;t bad enough that her house is unlivable, Stanley said looters came in and stole many of her possessions, including a prized 50-year-old record collection. "Johnny Cash, Johnny Rivers, Tina Turner, the whole thing was full," she said. It seems the only good news in the whole ordeal is that Stanley found her two cats, who were briefly trapped inside the house. While she loves having her cats back, Stanley is dealing with a host of other problems. She recently found out that her insurance company -- Farmers -- denied her claim on the house. Officials from the company say the slide was caused by rain, and Stanley #39;s coverage has a "heavy rain" exclusion. They also said Stanley #39;s policy excluded coverage caused by the ground moving. "Everything was excluded because of the earth movement, and it #39;s just ridiculous," Stanley said. The ...From:ifnews2012Views:0 0ratingsTime:02:20More inNews Politics

Zimmermans Demolition Highlights Residential Building Removal Services on New Website for York and West Chester Residents.
Lancaster, PA (PRWEB) December 28, 2012
Most homes lack the historical significance of the Berlin Wall, but even the smallest demolition job can bring a sense of freedom to the property owner. There is a certain amount of satisfaction in tearing down an existing building, to build something new.
Zimmermans Demolition is launching a new website http://www.zimmermansdemolition.com/ to help Lancaster residents get a clean slate on their property. Demolition and excavation can help people recognize the potential in a structural re-design or neglected property, said Jason Zimmerman, owner of Zimmermans Demolition.
Whether homeowners are looking for building removal, wall removal for an addition or demolition for a renovation, Zimmermans Demolition is skilled and prepared to get rid of the old and make room for the new. Older, neglected homes, lack structural soundness and can become a hazard. They are far from being up to code and require removal. Zimmermans team begins the process with a thorough building evaluation. They survey what can be recycled or salvaged. We want to be environmentally responsible to reduce debris from landfills so we recycle and salvage as much as possible, said Jason. Old beams from a barn can be sold as reclaimed wood, for unique, eco-conscious designs. After the structure is torn down, the crew brings in dumpsters to haul away what cannot be saved. Zimmermans demolition then gives customers the option of clean-up, which can be done by the company or customer to reduce costs.
It is critical to have a solid foundation when beginning a project. Proper excavation will make sure the project is done right from the start. Zimmermans Demolition provides quality mini excavating services for residents. They can help with drainage pipes and drainage issues, trenching, grading, connecting and laying pipe, rock removal, leveling foundations, hauling dirt and debris and site preparation. Safety is an important factor in excavating, we always evaluate the ground for utility safety before getting started, said Jason.
For more information about this company, please call (717)725-5279, or see their new website at http://www.zimmermansdemolition.com/.
