Over the years as homeowners, we've come to find that it isn't always the huge renovations that make a significant impact upon the look of a home. Sure, new appliances or granite countertops in the kitchen can look great, but they can also cost thousands of dollars. And in all honesty, does food taste any better prepared on stainless steel or granite?
Therefore, we look for ways to make our place look great without spending a lot of money in the process. Here are a few of the updates and changes we've made to our new condo in an effort not only to make it look better but add some super low-cost value in the process.
Closet Hardware
When we bought our condo, our closet doors didn't have knobs on them. We wondered who would install fold-open closet doors without pull knobs. It was one of those things that when we viewed the condo for the first time just raised odd questions. Why wouldn't they put on knobs? If they didn't care enough to have knobs on their closet doors, what else did they scrimp on when it came to care for the property?
The doors looked funny and as one might imagine, and they were somewhat difficult to open. Therefore, I went out and bought four knobs and a set of screws for $6.36. Not only did this small expense make it easier for us to open the doors, but they looked great, and will hopefully keep questions like the ones we had as buyers to a minimum when it comes time for us to sell.
Cost: $6.36 (knobs and screws)
Blinds
A similar situation to our closet one occurred with our living room windows. All the other windows in the home had adjustable blinds with exception of the living room. It was odd, since these windows faced the condos on the other side of our building. This gave us very little privacy, and again it raised questions as to why there weren't any blinds, why there weren't any signs of previous blinds being there, and why the previous owners hadn't added any? It was a simple fix, and one that didn't cost much money, but again added some aesthetics to the room, gave us additional privacy, and we hope will quell some of those same buyer questions that we had come resale time.
