http://www.adaptcbe.co.uk Currently in the planning process, the latest UEA building, the Norwich Research Park (NRP) Enterprise Centre, is targeting Passivhaus Certification and BREEAM Outstanding using renewable materials. At the workshop in this video clip, the design team met with a consultant from BSRIA to debate a few of the early ideas and particularly consider how the building #39;s Passivhaus specification might affect its life cycle output. To read more about the workshop, read our blog post adaptcbe.wordpress.com This landmark project is part-funded by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund, in addition to match funding from the University of East Anglia, Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBRSC), Norwich Research Park (NRP) and BRE. The purpose of the building is to host an enterprise centre, teaching and learning rooms -- including a 300 seat lecture theatre. The brief included a remit to fulfil the ERDF requirements that the building is a demonstration of innovation in design, build and post occupancy. Part of that demonstration was to include facilities for testing the next generation of renewable materials. 31 Post Office, former.
Abingdon Street Post Office (31). The post office replaced those seen earlier on the trail. It was built in 1910 on the site of the Union Baptist Chapel of 1861. The Post Office Designed in the style of a renaissance palazzo by architects of the Office of Works and built by R. Neill Son of Manchester. Completed in 1910, the Post Office was built on the site of the Union Baptist Chapel which was demolished to accommodate it (see no. 44). Faced in Portland stone with a hipped roof of green slate, the building is completely symmetrical. The main entrance is supported by a pair of Atlantes on plinths and the counter hall inside retains its original service desks and fine plasterwork. The building itself is listed Grade II as are the row of eight K6 telephone boxes designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott outside it. The building is faced with limestone from Portland on the Jurassic Coast; see if you can spot the fossilised seashells in the stone!
