Q: I love to cook for friends and family, especially during the holidays. So I was thinking about asking my husband for a "pot-filler faucet" installed in my kitchen for my big gift. Can you give me some information on these specialty faucets and how they are installed? This way, I can make a nice sales pitch to my husband and just maybe he will surprise me! -- Ann, Iowa.

A: I like the way you think -- getting all your information first, then making your case with a professional sales pitch. A pot-filler-type faucet is a good item to have in your kitchen if you want to cook like a pro.

Pot fillers are tall faucets with long swinging spouts that are installed close to your cook top or stove. True to the name, you can fill your pots right on the burner top, and avoid carrying water-filled pots across your kitchen. Plus, you can easily add more water while you're cooking.

Pot fillers usually have a higher flow rate for filling large pots. To install one, you need a little space close to your stove where a hole can be drilled, and an area under the counter where a cold-water line can be connected.

There's no need for a hot-water line or drains, but you do need to follow local codes. Final note: Price up the job first, because a pot filler can be a high-end item. Be careful not to drain your wallet!

A Long Island plumber who has been laboring seven days a week for the last month helping Sandy victims won a million dollars in a New York Lottery game.

Tony Auriemma, of Greenlawn, bought his winning Color of Money scratch-off after a 12-hour workday replacing damaged boilers and hot water heaters in communities like Oceanside.

"They haven't had heat or hot water since the storm and their lives are totally changed down there," Auriemma, 38, said. "It's bad."

Ironically, if not for Sandy, Auriemma would have missed buying the winning ticket on November 18. The father of three was supposed to be away on his annual hunting trip, but his Sandy-related workload forced him to cancel.

"We scratched it off and started screaming," Auriemma said. "We thought we won a hundred thousand dollars and then my wife said, 'no, it's a million dollars!' And I said, 'oh, my God!'"

Auriemma, his wife Jennifer and mother-in-law Frances Brauer were introduced as winners Thursday at Lottery headquarters in Garden City. The Auriemmas and Brauer will split the prize, with each taking home about $16 thousand a year for twenty years.

Despite his prize, Auriemma continues working, prompting the obvious question from his customers.

"They were like, 'I can't believe you're still here?' And I was like, 'I want to make you happy,'" Auriemma said. "To see the smiles on their faces when I give them hot water and heat, it's like they won the million dollars."

Auriemma still has at least several weeks more of work for Sandy victims. And he doesn't seem to mind one bit.

"Even before I won the money, I felt blessed helping these people," he said.

An Omaha woman is furious with a plumber hired to do some work in her place. Her anger isnt directed at the job he did. She claims he attacked and severely injured her 20-pound dog.

According to the police report, Peggy Babcock told investigators the man let her poodle mix named Jack out of his kennel and then struck the dog with a metal stake commonly used to tether a dog outdoors.

She was at work when it happened -- November 1.

Babcock told officers the blow knocked the animals eye out of the socket. She tells Channel Six News that there isn't any neurological damage, but there was a skull fracture and the lost eye.

An emergency trip to the vet lead to a successful treatment of the dog, but also left the woman with a $1,668.74 bill.

Babcock questions why the guy let the dog out of the kennel in the first place -- only to later explain that he felt threatened and that's why he used the metal tether to protect himself.

Omaha Police have re-submitted the case to the County Attorney as a felony Destruction of Property case. Babcock says investigators initially felt there wasn't a strong case to prove what the plumber did to the dog since there are no witnesses.
