Home Builder Developer - Interior Renovation and Design

Interior designer Terri Shannon's talent for creating beautiful living spaces was given the ultimate test when she renovated her own home, a 1912 Edwardian weatherboard in the Melbourne bayside suburb of Williamstown. "When it was for sale, people were walking in then straight out again," she says. "It was a real house of horrors. But I walked in and fell in love. I just knew it was going to be our home."

In only 12 months, Terri, the owner of Bloom Interior Design, and her husband, Luke, have almost completely restored the home to its former glory, and made some exciting discoveries along the way. "We gutted the house back to the frame, and were thrilled to find the original fireplaces behind fake brick cladding," says Terri. "We then rewired, restumped, plumbed and plastered the works."

Terri then sourced many pieces from overseas: light fittings from the United States and a whimsical wallpaper called "Birdcage Walk" by British designer Nina Campbell for the bedroom of their daughters, Charlie, 6, and Chloe, 4. Unable to find the perfect paint for the hallway walls, she created her own, a soft shade of blue she named "Dusty Coat".

They are now busy planning the next phase of the home's transformation. "We have plans being drawn for an extension, to create another bedroom and an open-plan kitchen and living room," says Terri. "And I can't wait to get stuck into designing the garden."
