The US Army Corps of Engineers selected Microgrid Solar as its partner for the renewable energy component of what is being billed as new net-zero-energy Brigade Headquarters. Microgrid will install 510 kilowatts (kW) of solar panels covering the roof and structures for the parking lot, as well as 5 vertical axis wind turbines around the perimeter of the building.

The combined power capacity of the project is equivalent to the power used by 100 homes.

This project is designed not only to meet energy goals, but to demonstrate what will soon become commonplace on military bases around the world, states Microgrid CEO, Rick Hunter, We are excited to be a part of this important project.

The project, scheduled to complete construction in 2013, will also be LEED certified, and includes an extensive ground-source (geothermal) field for all of the heating and cooling needs of the building. There also will be a solar-thermal water heating system.

Bolton High School Construction Project Team Recognized for Project Excellence, Innovation and Leadership

Canada Post is selling the massive post office building on West Georgia, a spokesman for the federal Crown corporation said Tuesday.

Jon Hamilton, general manager of communications, said with the construction well underway of a new postal processing facility by the airport in Richmond, Canada Post decided to move ahead with selling the property at 349 W. Georgia.

"We've started a process whereby interested parties can submit bids," he said by phone from Ottawa.

The facility, which occupies a full city block, was built in 1958 at a cost of $13 million.

A story in The Vancouver Sun in 2007 reported the property could be worth as much as $60 million

When asked how much the federal government was asking for it, Hamilton said that Canada Post is "looking to realize maximum value."

Hamilton said the post office expects to continue using the 1.2-hectare site until 2015. A gradual relocation to the new airport facility is expected to begin in 2014. "The future for us in terms of processing is out at the airport," Hamilton said.

He said there is no deadline for bids. He also wouldn't comment on whether potential First Nations land claims could complicate the sale of the property.

Post office building up for sale

Mrs. Freda Jewell Dillard Cronic, the owner of Cronic Chevrolet, Buick GMC, Cronic Nissan and Cronic Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM, age 83 of Griffin, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Emory Midtown Hospital. Mrs. Cronic was a native of Atlanta, born on January 29, 1929, the only child of the late Ophelia Martha Chancey and Fred Dillard. She had lived in Griffin since 1975 when she and her late husband, J.A. Cronic moved here and opened Cronic Chevrolet. The Cronics were married for 56 years before his death in 2003. In addition to helping her husband build one of the largest automotive groups between Atlanta and Macon, Mrs. Cronic was a licensed insurance agent. She was a graduate of Commercial High School in Atlanta and also of several schools operated over the years by General Motors for its dealers. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Griffin and the Georgia Automobile Dealers Association. She formerly was a member of the Marie Fort Garden Club and was honorary member of the Iris Charter Chapter of the American Business Womens Association. In addition to being the bookkeeper for Cronic Chevrolet during its formative years in Griffin, Mrs. Cronic raised two daughters. She loved her family and enjoyed being hostess for family dinners. One of Mrs. Cronics favorite recipes was a Gourmet Spinach Salad with a Sweet and Sour Dressing and was selected to appear in Pure and Simple, the first Neiman Marcus Christmas cookbook, published in 1991. More than 2,000 recipes were submitted before the judges reduced that number to 700 recipes which they prepared and tasted before selecting the ones to be included in the cookbook. During the observance of Griffins 150th anniversary, Mrs. Cronics recipe for a Festive Cheese Ball was included in the Celebration Cookbook. Mrs. Cronic was featured in the Griffin Daily News series Cook of the Week on January 13, 1993. Beyond work and family, one of Mrs. Cronics greatest pleasures was gardening. She particularly liked working in the beds of her brick-walled patio connected to the sunroom of her home. Mrs. Cronic is survived by her daughters, Wanda Cronic Howell and her husband, Lee, Linda Cronic Ridley and her husband, Gary; five grandchildren, Tina Thompson, Nicole Selph, Jessica Howell, Jade Ridley, Destiny Ridley; several cousins and other relatives; Sissy Carroll, a special friend and devoted caregiver. Visitation for Mrs. Freda Cronic will be held Wednesday, October 10, 2012 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 11:00am at First Baptist Church of Griffin. Dr. Bruce Morgan and Dr. Bill Hardee will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Cronic will lie-in-state for an hour prior to the services at the church. Are there any a) waterproof, b) self-contained, c) self-powered, and (ideally) d) inexpensive video-recording units out there? Are there any other creative ways to get the guys? I was thinking of something like a device that will cycle, so that the last week of video is recorded. It could take photos or video, and as long as it's small enough that I could camouflage it well, I suspect I'd be able to figure this out soon. And any idea of what my legal rights are to videotape or record?" Hunters have been doing this for years (with film, and now digital) to figure out prey patterns with cameras that are built for concealment; what else would you recommend?
