HANNIBAL, Mo. -- A clock said to have belonged to the real-life Becky Thatcher returned to its home in the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum Tuesday after three months' restoration work.

However, museum officials say the work answered no questions about the 18th-century clock's mysterious origins.

Employees of the Ralls County Clock Co. moved the seven-foot-tall grandfather clock from their Main Street shop back to the museum Tuesday morning, carrying it across the street in pieces and reassembling it in its longtime home outside the museum's second-floor auditorium.

The reassembly took roughly half an hour, but it made a striking diversion for museum staff.

Executive Director Cindy Lovell, walking out of her office near the clock to take her lunch break, stopped in her tracks and said: "Wow."

Curator Henry Sweets said he had visited the clock at the shop to see how work was progressing and said it had operated well even in the repair shop.

As clock shop employees Don Morton Jr. and Matt Walden reinstalled the clock's movement and wound the clock, it began to tick and chime again without incident, as it would have in Twain's time.

"I'm looking forward to having it chiming away again," Sweets said.

Firefighters are still looking into what caused the fire that nearly destroyed this Frogtown Road home.

NEW CANAAN, Conn. Restoring the power after a brief outage may have caused a fire two weeks ago that severely damaged a Frogtown Road home in New Canaan.

The power being turned back on in the area is only a possibility at this time, Fire Marshal Fred Baker said Thursday. The exact cause of the blaze has not been specifically identified, he said. Baker said foul play is not suspected.

The April 11 fire nearly destroyed the home of David Stoller, director of technology at New Canaan Country School. The home is owned by the private school. Firefighters had to bring in water on tanker trucks because there were no nearby hydrants. Stoller and his family were not at home at the time of fire, and no one was injured.

New Canaan Country School has been collecting donations to assist the Stollers.

Power Restoration May Have Caused New Canaan Fire

When filing a claim, they should have an updated copy of their insurance policy to ensure that the damage their home has sustained is covered.

Plans to rebuild the Romford Road centre were agreed by Newhams Cabinet.

Featuring new swimming facilities, a gym and space for fitness classes, work should begin in July next year with the new centre expected to open in January 2015.

Mayor Sir Robin Wales said of the present centre: Our residents deserve a better, more accessible facility than the one we currently have. We want to invest money to genuinely improve the leisure facilities on offer to residents.

Spending such large sums of money on repairs just to keep the building operational doesnt add up. A new facility will be a better, more economical option, which serves the needs of Newham residents.

A $750,000 renovation at the Chattanooga Choo Choo will finish up this week, reopening it with new carpet, furniture such as 32-inch flat-screen televisions and resurfaced walls.

The hotel, located in the former Southern Railway station on Market Street, covers three buildings; the current renovation is taking place in Building Two.

The work started about six months ago, said Jim Bambrey Jr., rooms director for the hotel.

"It needed a new look," he said.

Building Two is the last building in a set of remodeling phases, said General Manager Jim Bambrey Sr. The first focused on Building One, but he didn't have details on when it took place or how much it cost.

The second phase consisted of a $1 million renovation of Building Three that began in 2009, Bambrey Sr. said. Between the renovation of Building Three and the start on Building Two, the Choo Choo also remodeled the rooms in its train cars to include new bedding, carpeting and wall surfaces.

"We want to remain competitive," Bambrey Sr. said. "We try to have a residential look. People want a guest room that looks like their home."

About a year ago, the Chattanooga Choo Choo launched a green initiative to allow for a more eco-friendly business, Bambrey Sr. said. To keep up with the initiative, the hotel donated the 10 tons of used, nonbiodegradable carpeting from Building Two to Columbia Recycling in Dalton, Ga.

The company accepts millions of pounds of carpeting from across the country for precessing into pellets used in stuffing and other applications, President Robert Goldberg said.

While 10 tons sounds like a lot carpet, Goldberg said it's "minuscule" compared to what he gets from across the country. But "every little bit helps," he said.

Chattanooga Choo Choo completes remodeling project

Work on the new addition at the Belmond Medical Center continues, in some areas, seven days per week. BMC Administrator Nancy Gabrielson told the city council April 16 that it will be about another month before construction is complete.

She said the biggest challenge will be the final transfering of patients and services from the old section to the new section. One minute we must be ready to see a patient in the old emergency room, and the next minute we will have to be ready to accept an emergency in the new location. There cant be any down time in between. The same goes for patients. We will wheel them from an old room to a new room, and everything has to be ready and working. Timing is everything, and we are doing a lot of planning, practicing and coordinating, Gabrielson remarked.

Business at the hospital and clinic continues to move at a rapid pace. Statistics in most every category are ahead of one year ago.

Lynchburg, VA - Target stores are now consolidating their male and female fitting rooms into one co-ed dressing room.

The change is all part of a remodeling process. If you've been in the store lately, you may have seen all the construction. And, locals we've talked to have mixed feelings about changing their changing room.

When you're stripping down, buttoning up or zipping up, how close is too close for the opposite sex?

"When I go shopping for clothes, I just go with my sisters and friends. And we're just sitting there talking about, 'Well that looks good, that looks bad, do I look fat?' You know, that kind of thing, and you don't want the guys over there. I mean, oh my gosh," said Cindy Babb, Target shopper.

Target Shopper Cindy Babb says the more distance the better.

"You like to do your 'girl thing' and just shop around in your girl section, so I like having it separated and in its own little zone," said Babb.

But not everyone agrees. Amanda Moon doesn't see what the big deal is.

"You just get in, change and get out," said Moon.

"It wouldn't be a problem as long as it was monitored," said Moon.
