"I was in New York City and I was doing a Broadway show, and I was on a computer and I happened to see country houses with land around them that were the cost of half a New York City studio apartment," the former Perfect Strangers actor, 52, tells ABC's Good Morning America.

"I just got it into my head that I had to have one, and then I got another one and another one."

Pinchot now owns five houses in Harford and restored them all using only only salvaged objects a process documented in The Bronson Pinchot Project, a new series on the DIY Network.

Does he miss the hustle and bustle of the acting life? Hardly.

"I never did love Hollywood, I just loved the work," he says. "In California you say to somebody, 'Could you help me carry this heavy thing?' 'No, 'cause it's bicep day at the gym and I don't want to pre-exhaust the muscle.' "

Having first proved himself a scene-stealer opposite Eddie Murphy in 1984's Beverly Hills Cop, Pinchot says playing Balki on ABC's Perfect Strangers from 1986 to 1993 was a wonderful opportunity, but not without its downsides.

"There is a potentially awkward disconnect when someone expects you to be a character and you're not," he says. "You can see the disappointment and even offense that they take."

His new passion is giving him new fans, though. "What happens now is people will sit next to me on the plane [and] they'll go, 'So, Bronson, I've got this crud, like, in between my tiles,' and I'm like, 'Muriatic acid, but make sure you wear a mask,' " he says.

The Government is currently formulating a strategy for the replacement of the current bus fleet with more environmentally-friendly vehicles.

This study is currently in its early stages and the Government will announce its program when it is in a position to do so, said minister Neil Costa to question from S.M. Figueras.

JUPITER, Fla. (USA TODAY) So much is new this year for the Miami Marlins beginning with the name that some of the most crucial factors in turning the team back into a contender can get overlooked.

"New uniforms, new stadium, new personalities, new TV show, new everything," says right fielder Giancarlo Stanton, who you might remember as Mike Stanton the last two seasons.

See, everything is new, even one of the most talented returning players wanting to be identified by his given first name. That TV show is The Franchise, a season-long no-holds-barred inside look at the team and colorful manager (new, of course) Ozzie Guillen.

All of the hoopla about the additions of Guillen, shortstop Jose Reyes, closer Heath Bell and starting pitchers Mark Buehrle and Carlos Zambrano is warranted and creates expectations far above 2011's last-place finish team President David Samson says a .500 season would be "a complete failure."

But .500 or better isn't likely to happen without significant contributions from players who were Florida Marlins a season ago.

Start with Stanton, the powerful man-child who has plenty of long-distance shots among his 56 home runs in his first 875 big-league at-bats.

But leave it to straightforward Guillen to sum up his expectations for Stanton, 22.

"I don't want a long one," Guillen says. "I want a lot of homers. Don't give me a 500-foot homer. Give me 40 390s."

He has similar goals on the other side of the ball.

"I've got this man throwing 200 innings and winning 21 games," Guillen says of No. 1 starter Josh Johnson, who had a 1.64 ERA last season, but in only 60 innings. "Is he going to do it? That's what everybody wants."

Four months after losing out on key federal grant money for widening the Highway 101/Highway 23 interchange, officials from Ventura County are trying again.

Thousand Oaks and county transportation officials plan to submit a grant application for $19.5million by the end of the week, said Jay Spurgin, Thousand Oaks' public works director.

Spurgin traveled with others from the city and the Ventura County Transportation Commission to Washington, D.C., last week. They met with California congressional staff members and senior representatives from the Transportation Department, which administers the TIGER IV grant. TIGER is an acronym for Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery.

"We got some fairly focused input on our project and on our application, and it was very appreciated," Spurgin said. "I think we are going to have that much better of an application."

Officials made a similar trip last year to lobby for a $19.5 million TIGER III grant. Competition for a piece of the $527 million pot of discretionary money was stiff 828 applications were submitted for a total of more than $14billion requested.

This year's pool of TIGER money is $500 million, and some has been set aside for high-speed rail projects.

To increase their chances of securing half the funding for the $40 million widening project, local officials added traffic meters and lights on the on-ramps. The additions are called transportation system management technology, an attractive feature in highway projects.

Darren Kettle, the transportation commission's executive director, said the group planned to present an economic analysis showing the benefits of the widening project.

Based on feedback from the Transportation Department, the grant application likely will emphasize the millions of dollars worth of Highway 101 projects that have been built in the past decade while making the case the proposed widening would be the culmination of thatwork.

"This will benefit all those other projects that are diminished because they bottleneck down here," Spurgin said. "I think that's an important story to tell about why this project is special and why we should be given this TIGER money."

For decades, naysayers have pointed to their expense, relatively high in comparison to formerly abundant sources of fossil fuels, such as coal and crude oil.

But with those resources dwindling and emerging economies such as China and India competing for limited supplies, fossil fuels are becoming more expensive while several popular green energy technologies are coming down in price.

Cost issues aside, another problem environmentalists have with the burning of fossil fuels is the carbon dioxide they put into the atmosphere, considered to be a major contributor to global warming.

The Energy Information Administration estimated that in 2007 primary sources of energy in the world consisted of petroleum, 36 percent; coal, 27.4 percent; and natural gas, 23 percent. That equates to a total of 86.4 percent of the worlds energy being produced with fossil fuels.

Non-fossil sources include hydroelectric, nuclear, geothermal, solar, tide, wind, wood and waste. However, not all of those are considered renewable energy sources.

Although renewable energy sources constitute only a small fraction of energy being produced in this country, those numbers are on the rise.

Because state law mandates providers of electric service to establish renewable energy and energy optimization programs, its not a question of whether renewable energy should be utilized, but rather a question of which ones to use.

Public Act 295 of 2008 is a law that affects virtually every state resident.

The law requires providers to produce 10 percent of its power by 2015 with renewable sources. It further stipulates that the providers start generating or supplying the green power this year, and gradually phase it in.

WHAT'S NEXT?: Sources of renewable energy are as old as the sun and wind, but how viable are they?

After several years of marching in place, developers of a huge housing, retail and office complex along Tacomas Ruston Way are moving forward with construction.

The first fruits of that renewed activity at Point Ruston, on the site of a former Asarco copper mill near Point Defiance Park, will open to the public late this spring.

Mike Cohen, Point Rustons development manager, said this week he expects to open a new Ruston Way roadway extension through the development in May. That boulevard will bypass the historic Ruston tunnel, which will be filled with soil from the site and sealed.

Grand opening for the new road, which will once again connect the Commencement Bay Waterfront with the town of Ruston, is set for April 21 with a five-kilometer run. That ceremonial road opening will proceed the public road opening to traffic by about a month, said Cohen.

Well have a few details to wrap up before were able to let traffic use the new road, he said. The $28.7 million infrastructure project not only built a new road but also added new utility capacity to serve the Point Ruston development and surrounding areas.

The opening of the first segment of a nearly mile-long waterfront esplanade will follow the roadway opening in June, said Cohen. That 100-foot-wide strip of parkland will include a 20-foot-wide paved sidewalk for walkers and a nearby crushed stone path for runners. The esplanade, called the Waterwalk, will be heavily landscaped and furnished with benches. The full length of the esplanade extending from the present Ruston Way waterfront path to Metropolitan Park District property at Point Defiance is due for opening by the end of the year, said the developer. He put the esplanades cost at $5 million.

Meanwhile, construction continues on the first multi-unit housing in the development. That housing, the Copperline apartments, is scheduled for opening in September. Cohens development company had begun construction on the Copperline several years ago, but halted construction when the housing market collapsed in 2008. The multi-story building was originally scheduled to be condominiums, but the structure was redesigned as apartments.

The 173 units in that building will range in size from 900 to 1,300 square feet. Rents will vary from $900 to $2,000 monthly, said Cohen.

The building includes three levels of covered parking on the lower floors and retail spaces on the ground level.

Plans call for construction to begin by summer on 44 lower rise condominium units between the apartment structure and the esplanade, the developer said. The units, which range in size from 1,350 to 3,000 square feet, will be priced at $500,000 to $1.7 million.
