Smiles behind the masks at reopened restaurants – News from southeastern Connecticut – theday.com

    - June 26, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

After successfully bringing back outdoor dining, the state began allowing indoor service as of June 17. Seating is limited to 50% of capacity, and everyone is asked to wear masks and social distance.

As we did with indoor dining, we sent some reporters out to see what the scene is like in restaurants from Stonington to Old Saybrook.

    Il Pomod'Oro, East Lyme

My first time eating indoors after Connecticut restaurants reopened felt rather dare I say? normal.

    Imagine that.

Of course, the expected coronavirus protocols were in place. (And aren't those protocols feeling weirdly normal now?) The tables were spread out in social-distancing fashion, for example, and servers wore masks and gloves.

That was the scene Friday night at il Pomod'Oro in East Lyme.

When I ate outdoors at some local restaurants during phase one of reopening, it was more of a takeout vibe. (Plastic forks and knives, food in takeout containers, and so on.)

Il Pomod'Oro, though, was a full-on fine-dining experience. A friend and I checked in when we arrived, and the greeter found our reservations and led us to a table.

The venue was busy, with people sitting outside on the front patio and others like us eating inside. People seemed to be following the coronavirus-in-Connecticut guidelines, including wearing masks until they were eating and drinking.

I will say that one nice consequence of the COVID-19 era at all restaurants is the social distancing of tables. You don't have to talk over someone sitting who sometimes feels very close to you, and you don't feel crowded. Ah, the joys of elbow room!

At il Pomod'Oro, the waiter brought us glasses of water, regular utensils, menus, and bread and olive oil. I ordered the pasta special, which boasted vodka sauce, spinach, mushrooms and sausage. My friend got the homemade tagliolini al profumo di mare, with mussels, clams, calamari, shrimp and garlic white wine sauce. Il Pomod'Oro highlights its handmade pasta on its website, and yes, indeed, it lives up to the hype.

We shared dessert, warm apple crostata a la mode, and left quite content with our first phase-two, inside dining experience.

    Kristina Dorsey

    Whitecrest Eatery, Stonington

A bandanaed Johan Jensen visited our table shortly after we had finished our appetizers on Father's Day to welcome us to his Whitecrest Eatery and, in his Danish accent, tell us how much he'd missed seeing and chatting with customers during the COVID-19 shutdown.

The chef and owner is delighted that he and wife Abbey Hemmann are welcoming customers for inside dining again. Whitecrest served takeout throughout the shutdown but didn't have outdoor space to reopen for phase one. Now, they've moved to the cavernous atrium at Stonington's Velvet Mill, where their restaurant is located, able to seat 40 customers at tables more than 6 feet apart, and ringed with fern-filled planters. That's just two seats short of their indoor capacity, which included the bar.

The chef said he is grateful to be healthy and back in business. With takeout, his menu was limited, but with indoor seating, he's offering dishes such as seared bonito with shakshuka, orzo, Kalamata olives and herbed yogurt, and a summer schnitzel, with mushrooms, peas, asparagus and lemon. We ordered both and were delighted.

There is more joy in cooking for people seated at a table in your restaurant, and seeing their reactions to your food, Jensen said.

For the waitstaff, it was equally exciting. Our waitress told us that although we couldn't see it, she was smiling beneath her mask, as she scribbled our order with gloved hands. It is the employees who have more steps to cover, to carry food and beverages from inside the eatery out to the new dining room in the atrium.

Business is resuming, Hemmann told us, and the restaurant was busy its first weekend. Reservations are recommended and are easily made through the website, whitecresteatery.com.

Guests are asked to arrive with face masks, and to wear them whenever they leave their tables. We felt incredibly comfortable and more than adequately distanced from other diners. And, with no air-conditioning running and all the old mill's big doors wide open, it was pretty close to alfresco dining with a roof and big glass windows over our heads.

    Ann Baldelli

    Little Pub Restaurant, Old Saybrook

Dining indoors felt like a silly idea when I met a friend on a summer Wednesday evening at the Little Pub restaurant on Boston Post Road.

Exterior tables with umbrellas beckoned from both sides of the Tudor-style building, and the weather was perfect. But we were here to sample indoor dining, a privilege unavailable until last week as we Connecticut residents quarantined at home for months and grew weary of our own cooking.

We hadn't seen each other for a while, and we air-hugged as we exited our cars. Deb admired the decorative old-school phone booths outside as we put on our face masks and entered the restaurant's vast dining room.

A masked server greeted us at the open side door, and we asked for a four top table so we could sit diagonally from one another, remove our masks and chat without swapping respiratory droplets.

With a high ceiling, generously spaced tables and open doors at both sides, the dining room felt airy and safe. Our wooden table was spotless, and big pump bottles of hand sanitizer were available at both entrances.

We forgot about COVID-19 for a while as our attentive server, Kayla, brought food and drinks. Deb had a white zinfandel and ordered the BLT sandwich on thick bread that she said she'd been craving. I had a Bombay and tonic, French onion soup and New England-style lobster roll. We both chose the sweet potato fries on the side, and they came out hot, crispy and luxurious. We considered ordering ice cream, but conceded we were too full.

Our only nitpick of the pandemic-era Little Pub, and of another restaurant where we dined outdoors recently, was that we had to ask for more napkins after unwrapping our silverware and placing it on the sole napkin provided. With heightened concerns about hygiene, restaurants should routinely provide a couple of extra napkins or even a wet wipe or two.

    Karen Florin

S&P Restaurant and Oyster Bar, Mystic

At S&P, indoor dining on the first and second floors felt spacious, sanitary and safe.

The restaurant's reopening doubled as a debut for new decor in its sleek second-floor dining room a colorful lighting fixture that decorates the ceiling with waves of blue, pink and orange, shining neon light down on the room. Hanging above the dining room's floor-to-ceiling windows, which offer sweeping views of Mystic Harbor and the drawbridge, the installation brightens as the sun dims each night. The installation was designed by glass artist Jeffrey P'an.

Instead of reservations, the restaurant is offering priority seating. Guests who call in ahead of time can request a time block during which they will be seated before any walk-in guests. The restaurant's automated messaging system suggests calling days in advance, as priority seating slots are expected to fill up quickly, but a day-of call was no trouble on June 23 for a 7:50 p.m. slot. Our table, tucked into a nook on the second floor, was ready as soon as we arrived.

Nine tables on the second floor were spaced at least 6 feet apart. Our table, at the very back of the dining room against a large window, offered beautiful views of the foggy sky and a safe distance from all other diners. Three other parties of two and one party of four were dining upstairs that evening.

The surfaces in the dining room floor, tables and bar looked sparkling clean and our servers changed their gloves more times than I could count. Whenever a guest left, staff swooped in to quickly sanitize the tabletops. Two waiters alternated throughout the evening, taking turns checking in, serving our food and clearing our plates. I would have felt more comfortable coming into contact with only one server. Though both were introduced to us, an explanation for the team wasn't offered.

Disposable menus were printed on paper but everything else was standard fare there were no offers made for plastic utensils or disposable napkins and drinks were served in glasses without straws. I would've preferred to use disposable utensils, napkins and straws, but opted to use what they had set out, since everything felt impeccably clean.

In addition to a new look, the restaurant debuted a new summer menu. We started off with The Saint, fizzy cocktails made with blueberry vodka, as we enjoyed our appetizers spinach artichoke dip and a seafood crepe. The dip was served with fresh wontons and the crepe was as delicious as it was unique, filled with shrimp, crab and lobster topped with a cream sauce.

For our entrees, we enjoyed a steak prepared in an ancho coffee rub and a heaping plate of linguini alfredo topped with a half-pound of lobster tail and claw meat. It was the first time I've ever been served more lobster than I could finish.

Throughout our meal, the ambiance was peaceful. There was no foot traffic, no bustling staff going in and out of the kitchen, no quick turnover at neighboring tables. As slow, melodic music pumped through the speakers as the sun set, the environment felt calm and quiet.

Our servers wore masks the entire time. No other diners were wearing masks once seated, and some patrons seen wandering around the first floor to use the restroom were not wearing masks. There did not appear to be any hand sanitizer available on the second floor, besides in the restroom, but a small bottle was available on the host stand on the first floor. We, however, were seated directly by a host who was set up on the porch outside, so we didn't pass by the indoor host stand and therefore did not have access to hand sanitizer besides our own before starting our meal.

Your home could be healthier – here’s how – Queensland Times

    - June 26, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

Buildings and homes designed to fight viruses and mental health issues could be part of the COVID-19 legacy.

Healthy homes are already cropping up across Melbourne, featuring simple additions that can lead to happier and healthier lifestyles.

We've asked the experts what can boost your family's wellbeing today and what's on the horizon.

    HUMIDITY HAVENS

Humidity has emerged as one of the few environmental factors that can help fight COVID-19.

Harvard Medical School infection control consultant Dr Stephanie Taylor - from the hard-hit United States - has revealed there are virus-fighting air moisture levels we can create at home.

"Ensuring a relative humidity of 40-60 per cent has been proven to be more effective in deactivating these viral particles, both in the air and on surfaces," Dr Taylor said.

"The cold, dry air of winter clearly facilitates the spread of SARS-CoV-2 - the virus that causes COVID-19 - among people. Setting minimum indoor humidity levels for public buildings will reduce the burden of COVID-19, and other upcoming seasonal viral illness, on society."

One of the first Melbourne homes to provide automated air quality control including humidity was built in Truganina in 2018. Picture: Jay Town.

Modern smart homes with hi-tech air purification systems were an option, she said. But even installing a humidifier could help prevent "dry air", which resulted in mucous membranes in the nose and mouth drying out and becoming less efficient at fighting bacterial and viral infections.

RMIT School of Property, Construction and Project Management lecturer Dr Nicola Willand said energy-efficient design requirements in Victoria put many new homes ahead of the game.

"Having a warm home is really important, because air is like a sponge" she said. "It can absorb moisture - and to get to a particular level of humidity, the home needs to be warm. In cold rooms, humidity drops and your nose and mouth dry out, which makes it easier to get sick."

Dr Willand - who's establishing Australia's first housing and health course - said homes designed with greater thermal efficiency, which required less heating and cooling, were more likely to remain in the right temperature brackets to maintain ideal humidity.

    MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH

The industry is also increasingly aware of the impact the home environment can have on mental health.

Big windows for plenty of natural light, gardens and indoor greenery have all featured in studies into human wellbeing - though their effects are not well understood as yet.

A bit of greenery at home is believed to help with mental health and to lower stress.

"Even a balcony with a green area will help to reduce stress," Dr Willand said. "Our nervous system responds really positively to green. It's probably part of why we tend to take flowers to someone in hospital."

Window orientation is also important. Most people would know the importance of north-facing glazing for natural light throughout the year. But few would know that a west-facing window, with a deciduous tree or a vine-clad pergola in front of it, was ideal for boosting warmth in winter without overheating in summer.

For those who worked from home, Dr Willand also recommended a south-facing window to provide even lighting without glare.

It was also important homeowners ensured existing building features aimed at protecting their health were operating correctly.

A U-shaped bend in pipes helps keep bacteria and bad smells from wafting back into homes.

World Health Organisation studies of the SARS outbreak in Hong Kong in 2003 suggested faecal matter in sewerage pipes had infected people in one apartment tower with the virus. This was because U-bend pipes had been left to dry out in some areas.

Normally filled with water, these pipe features create a barrier to smells and bacteria wafting back out of pipes into bathrooms and laundries. But if allowed to dry out, they stop working.

Overspill pipes set into bathroom and laundry floors were the most likely to dry out. "So if you can smell a funny smell, put in some water," Dr Willand said. "What you are usually smelling is bacteria."

    HI-TECH FUTURE

Advanced home features that control air quality, humidity, or keep bushfire smoke out, are another way the home can help keep illness at bay, according to Delos building biologist Bree Fisher.

Ms Fisher expected health and safety to "become a standard benchmark" in buildings as a long-term effect of COVID-19.

Melbourne's first 'wellness real estate' home, complete with circadian rhythm based lighting. Picture: Jay Town.

Her industry identifies and mitigates health hazards in the built environment, be that through air and water quality, building materials, mould and moisture levels, or electromagnetic fields.

"Anything to boost your immune system, or even to get you good sleep and reduced stress," Ms Fisher said.

Houses with such a focus have been built by Simonds Homes across Melbourne since Delos launched their Darwin Home Wellness Intelligence platform here in 2018.

Operating in a few thousand homes today, it tracks and maintains air quality including humidity, purifies water from every tap, and includes circadian-rhythm based lighting.

Ms Fisher said even a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter over heating and cooling ducts could provide benefits for some conditions.

For those considering a renovation or buying a home in the near future, it could be wise to consider the building materials, too.

"Concrete or unsealed ceramics or unsealed wood will be a lot more porous, and a lot more bugs can be absorbed into them," Ms Fisher said.

    OUR HEALTHY HOME

Guramarinder Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur with their kids Heleen Kaur, 10, and Guramarpel, 5, at their Botanic Ridge home. Picture: Andrew Henshaw

Guramarinder Singh's healthy home in Melbourne's southeast has been a boon for him and his family.

He moved into the Botanic Ridge house with his wife, Gursharan Kaur, and their daughter Heleen Kaur, 10, and son Guramarpel, 5, just in time to escape the worst of bushfire smoke that blanketed Melbourne early this year.

Its computer-controlled air and water filtration proved to be particularly important, given both his children have had problems with asthma. "Inside, they were really good," Mr Singh said.

The family also noticed it had adopted healthier habits since moving into the house featuring home wellness technology from Delos.

This included wanting to drink the tap water - something they never enjoyed at their previous home.

"With good hydration, you feel it cleaning your body," Mr Singh said.

The importance of the home environment for the family's health had also become more apparent.

He said he now believed construction or material improvements that might help viral infections could soon be a wonderful addition to home life.

Apples 5G iPhone 12 Is Back on Track for September, But May Be Missing Accessories – idropnews.com

    - June 26, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

Over the past few months, weve heard an unprecedented number of conflicting rumours as to when this years iPhone may actually be launching, or even which models may appear when, with many reports pointing to possible delays due to manufacturing, engineering, and testing setbacks as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Reports have ranged from possible delays into 2021 to suggestions that only the Pro models will be delayed, and possibly only into October. However, now a new report from the analysts at Wedbush shared by 9to5Mac suggests that everything is in fact on track for a September launch.

To be clear, this isnt just a repeat of the previous story that everything was okay; Wedbush acknowledges that there have been some delays in the supply chain, but that theyve apparently been busting their collective butts to overcome those delays and get everything back on schedule.

The supply chain getting back to normalization ahead of expectations has been impressive and now ultimately puts Cook & Co. back in the drivers seat to launch this 5G cycle in its typical mid-late September timeframe

This makes sense in light of previous reports, since of course these have been difficult times around the world and theres been a lot of uncertainty, but as Wedbushs analysts note, theres been a strong push both from Apple and its suppliers to make up for lost time so ensure that the 5G iPhone is ready in time for what is expected to be a 5G super-cycle this fall.

In fact, Wedbush is expecting that the iPhone 12 will drive Apple to become the first $2 trillion company as a result of the pent-up demand for 5G smartphones in general, and for the iPhone 12 specifically, which could form a sort of perfect storm for meeting the expectations of tech-hungry consumers.

However, the team at Wedbush echoes the report we heard from Ming-Chi Kuo last month that EarPods will no longer be included with this years iPhones, echoing Kuos reasoning as well that this should help to drive stronger demand for AirPods over the coming year, with the expectation that Apple could sell 85 million units of its true wireless earbuds as a result.

Analysts at Barclays also share this belief, but theyre actually taking their predictions a big step further, suggesting that Apple wont even be including a power adapter in the box this year.

In a research note obtained by MacRumors, the British bank analysts have spoken with multiple Apple suppliers and come to the conclusion that not only are EarPods being omitted this year, but that the iPhone 12 could ship with only a USB-C to Lightning cable in the box, leaving buyers to find their own power supplies.

While this would be a massively positive move for the environment on Apples part, and could even appease European regulators (albeit in a more indirect way), it would leave at least some first-time iPhone buyers in the lurch.

Its clear that Apple is aiming for a future without wires, and many users may already prefer wireless charging options, leaving the power brick unused in the box.

There are also many other cases where users may not have any need for an included charger, such as homes with multiple iPhone users who share single charging stations, those who simply prefer to plug into their MacBook to charge, and those who have compatible chargers from prior iPhone models.

Of course, Apple still sells all of its power adapters separately, with the basic 5W adapter available for $19, and the 18W power adapter, which Apple began including with last years iPhone 11 Pro models, selling for $29.

However, this report from Barclays also flies in the face of a leak we heard this week that suggested Apple could be including a new 20W power adapter with at least some iPhone 12 models.

Since analysts such as Barclays get most of their information from supply chain sources, its conceivably possible that both reports could be correct if the rumoured 20W adapter is being built by a different manufacturing partner; Barclays may be basing its predictions on production for the older 5W and 18W adapters not having been scaled up to match the number of iPhone 12 units expected to be manufactured.

Construction Begins, Permit Process Initiated, for COVID-19 Emergency Shelter Use of Downtown Property – whatcomtalk.com

    - June 26, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

Submitted by theCity of Bellingham, written by Janice Keller

Next steps are underway for use of the former site of the Bellingham Public Market as an emergency shelter facility after Bellingham City Council approval at a special meeting June 16.

The new location will allow adequate social distancing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Council action to approve lease terms was taken after approval from Mayor Seth Fleetwood consistent with Executive Order 2020-02 and Emergency Ordinance 2020-03-008.

The City of Bellingham, in partnership with ??Whatcom County and Lighthouse Mission Ministries, will be relocating the Drop-In Center low-barrier emergency shelter facility from its current location at Bellingham High School to the new location. The Drop-in Center will remain at its new site for up to four years.

Steps now underway include construction in and around the building to prepare it for use as a shelter. Additionally, a permitting process under the Citys temporary shelter code has been initiated.

Lighthouse Mission Ministries has applied for a permit under the Citys temporary shelter code (BMC 20.15.030) to continue use of the building if the declared emergency ends prior to their lease with the City. Planning and Community Developmentissued a notice of application onJune 19, 2020,which starts a 14-day public comment period. Due to the Independence Day holiday, the comment period has been extended to July 6. An informational meeting about the project is scheduled via webinar on 5:00-6:30 p.m.Wednesday,June 24, 2020.Members of the public are encouraged to participate, with meeting sign-on details availablein the notice of application.

In addition to making sure the necessary permit is in place when the emergency declaration ends, public feedback during the permit process will help inform what conditions the City will require of Lighthouse Mission Ministries while they occupy the building downtown.

Washington State, Whatcom County and the City of Bellingham have all established health emergencies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, measures to ensure that community members are safe can be implemented immediately.

The Mayor and Bellingham City Council approved the use of and lease terms for the building consistent with the emergency requirements after determining that the usual approval process would cause undue delay and put Drop-In Center guests, staff and the public at risk.

The Drop-in Center may remain in thebuilding for the duration of the declared emergency, which at this time is unknown.

To stay in this location beyond the public health emergency, Lighthouse Mission Ministries must have a permit under the Citys temporary shelter code (BMC 20.15.030). The process to obtain this permit includes public input opportunity and an option to appeal, just like any other temporary encampment permit application.

The Lighthouse Mission, City and County engineering and facilities staff, the property owner and local contractors worked quickly to identify improvements needed to support daily operations of the Drop-In Center.

Improvements underway include shower facilities, handwashing stations, laundry facilities, interior walls, cabinets and counters, food service, painting, heating and cooling equipment and exterior courtyard fencing. Prime contractors Colacurcio Brother Construction, Andgar HVAC and Carlson Steel Works developed and executed contracts, mobilized personnel and equipment, secured permits and scheduled work with the City in less than seven days.

These primecontractors and several other local subcontractors, including Blythe Plumbing and Scott Electric, are now preparing toor alreadyworking on site, with work scheduled to be completed by July 15, 2020.

We are very appreciative of the efforts shown by these contractors in recognizing the need and urgency with this unique project moving forward on a very aggressive schedule, said Eric Johnston, Public Works director.??

The Drop-In Center has beentemporarily housed at Bellingham High School.

As described to the City Council on June 16, the Drop-In Center is expected to vacate Bellingham High School by mid-July, to give the district ample time to prepare Bellingham High School for school to start in the fall.

The Drop-In Centercannot return to its location in Old Town because those facilities are too small to provide adequate social distancing while COVID-19 remains a threat.

Lighthouse Mission Ministries plans to build a permanent shelter on an existing property in Old Town while the operation is temporarily housed elsewhere, Lighthouse Mission Ministries Director Hans Erchinger-Davis said.

Bellingham Mayor Seth Fleetwood said the Bellingham Public Market location best meets the identified needs. It is large enough, it is the most cost-effective option, it meets our very urgent timeframe, we have a property owner who is willing to work with local officials, and the site lends itself best to amenities that will help ease neighborhood concerns.

We recognize there are strong opinions on the impacts, perceived and real, this will have on adjacent businesses, Mayor Fleetwood said. We are committed to helping navigate those issues to ensure negative impacts are minimized.

We simply have no choice. We must create healthy living space for people experiencing homelessness during this public health emergency, or they will have no option other than to live unsheltered, Mayor Fleetwood said. Protecting the health of people who need shelter services greatly reduces the risk of a COVID-19 outbreak among shelter guests, among staff and volunteers, and throughout the whole community.

The Whatcom County Council and Bellingham City Council approved a cost-sharing agreement for a new temporary shelter location at their respective June 2 and June 8 meetings.

The agencies involved anticipate the next location to be in use for up to four years while Lighthouse Mission Ministries rebuilds at its current location in Bellinghams Old Town.

Any facility selected for temporary use must provide enough space to allow guests to sleep with a minimum of six feet between them, said Erika Lautenbach, Director of the Whatcom County Health Department.

Its critically important that as a community we do everything we can to prevent the spread of COVID-19, especially for people who are more vulnerable to this virus, Lautenbach said. For our neighbors experiencing homelessness, we need a shelter with enough space for physical distancing that will limit the chances of the virus spreading. Protecting those who use the shelter from an outbreak of COVID-19 also protects the health of our entire community.

The industry is not only associated with new road construction activities but also with existing maintenance businesses, which drives the demand for repainting.

The market has witnessed increasing investments in intelligent street marking systems and machines that help record the drivers speed, driving conditions, and temperature while communicating it to the vehicles sensor system. Paint is widely used for travel lane, loading zone, and parking space markings. Thermoplastic coating, also known as hot melt marking, is gaining advantage owing to its properties such as longevity and retro-reflectivity.Preformed polymer tape is a cold-applied plastic sheet used for marking traffic lanes, crosswalks, and stop bars. Epoxy coating is a reliable and economical solution which consists of a pigmented resin base and a catalyst and is suitable for heavy-wheeled traffic. This coating is preferred over plastic material coatings since it is resistant to oil, gasoline, and transmission fluid and is cost-effective as well. Moreover, manufacturers are coming up with initiatives to develop temperature-sensitive paints, which can withstand adverse environmental conditions, such as snowfall and heavy rains.Rising demand for traffic road marking coatings for public and private parking spaces is expected to boost the market growth. Regulatory bodies across the globe are continually formulating guidelines to improve road safety. While a well-established regulatory structure is already present in developed regions, such as North America and Europe, emerging economies are still working toward enhancing the framework to ensure road safety and maintenance.

Product Insights of Traffic Road Marking Coatings Market

Thermoplastic coating is projected to emerge as the fastest-growing product segment over the forecast period. Conventional paint is ideal for markings on private spaces and public streets. These paints are available in different colors, each symbolizing a different function. For instance, red markings display crucial information, while colors such as yellow and orange generally symbolize temporary cautions. Reflectors are used in areas frequented by fork-lift traffic to prevent accidents.Thermoplastic marking coatings are applied in a thick/built up layer to create rumble strips. This coating sets quickly and adheres firmly to the surface. Extra additives can be added to the coating to retain its color over time, thus improving its reflective capabilities. High strength and resistance make this coating wear-resistant.Preformed polymer tape coatings, also referred to as tape or cold plastic, are placed either over the surface of the pavement or the asphalt concrete during the hardening process. Along with its use for crosswalks and stop bars, it is also supplied in sheets from which unique shapes, forms, or letters can be designed.

Type Insights of Traffic Road Marking Coatings Market

On the basis of type, the traffic road marking coatings market is segmented into permanent and removable traffic road marking coatings. Permanent traffic road marking coatings include pavement tapes and paints. Aerosol permanent paints are widely used for traffic line marking. They exhibit an extremely high percentage of solid and resin content, which contributes to exterior durability along with water, weather, and abrasion resistance. Aerosol paints are available in a variety of colors, but white and yellow are generally preferred in several applications including crosswalks, streets, highways, airport runways, and parking lots. These paints have a longer life compared to conventional paints.Removable traffic road marking coatings are primarily used for painting signs, identification numbers, and direction arrows for warehouse floors, road construction zones, and synthetic turf fields, among others. These paints are tough and durable; however, they can be easily removed and eventually wear off when exposed to the environment.

Application Insights of Traffic Road Marking Coatings Market

Road marking lines emerged as the largest application segment with a market share of 55.4% in terms of revenue in 2019. Road marking lines are frequently used to guide the vehicles on the road. The marking indicates the delineation of traffic path and lateral clearance from traffic hazard for safe and smooth movement on the road. It also serves as a tool for providing information, controlling traffic, and warning road users.

Road marking labels is projected to emerge as the fastest-growing application segment owing to its wide application for roads, public highways, and on-site applications. Traffic road marking labels are used to promote traffic safety, notify drivers of the speed limit, and provide directions and other useful information to all road users including pedestrians and cyclists. Basic road labeling includes regulatory warnings, roadwork signs, and informational signs. All road marking labels must comply with the road traffic regulations.

Regional Insights of Traffic Road Marking Coatings Market

Europe emerged as the largest market in 2019, while Asia Pacific is projected to witness the highest growth over the forecast period. The European Union Road Federation is actively researching to develop standard recommendations to reach its goal of reducing highway fatalities. Usage of high-quality building materials, safety measures, training, and better surveillance on contractors are expected to drive the product demand in the coming years. The U.S. government has rolled out initiatives to enhance road infrastructure and encourage the development of durable, high-performance coating products with enhanced visibility and skid resistance. Facilitating vertical market integration by launching manufacturing units for motorway marking and traffic paints would provide contractors and applicators with a chance to acquire better control over the cost and quality of products. This is expected to support the regional market growth over the forecast period.

Market Share Insights of Traffic Road Marking Coatings Market

Manufacturers focus on developing innovative products, such as temperature-sensitive, long-lasting, reflective paints. The market is characterized by a high degree of forward integration, which would help manufacturers enhance their position in the global market. Key players operating in the market include AutoMark Technologies (India) Pvt. Ltd.; Sherwin-Williams Company; Geveko Markings; Ennis Flint, Inc.; Crown Techno; Dow Inc.; 3M Company; and Swarco.

Yuma-1 project moving ahead incrementally Yuma Pioneer – YumaPioneer

    - June 26, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

Yuma School District-1s $32 million renovation/expansion project continues to move forward incrementally. An update was given during the Yuma-1 Board of Educations regular monthly meeting, Monday night at district headquarters in downtown Yuma.David Kurz of Neenan Archistruction participated via telephone, while Chad Rayl of owners representative Project One was in attendance, along with Superintendent Dianna Chrisman, and all the board members Kim Langley, Lindsey Galles, Duane Brown, Thomas Holtorf and Dan Ross.Kurz told the board the Yuma Middle School junior high wing, which is undergoing updates for items such as HVAC, new and more windows, and carpet, is scheduled to be turned over to the district by August 28, giving the teachers a tight timeframe in which to get their classrooms in order prior to the start of school the next week. However, as of now, the remodeling work of the YMS service kitchen, will linger on after school starts, with an expected turnover date of September 23.Ross later asked why that was the case, since he thought the kitchen work was ahead of schedule. He was told the later date has been part of the plans recently as COVID-19 restrictions have slowed down the overall process. He also was told that is the worst-case scenario, and eventually that timeline can be sped up. If not, the district has contingency plans in place, and Chrisman noted the district food service has a lot of experience now with preparing grab-and-go meals, following handing out free breakfast and lunches while school was shut down the last two months of the 2019-20 school year.Per the YMS portion, it was noted holes are being punched out of the walls in the junior high wing where windows will be installed. It was noted that mold had to be remediated in five the junior high classrooms as things were torn up, but the work has been done and tests sent to the proper authorities to make sure the mold is completely removed.Over at Yuma High School, the compacting and the subgrade for the concrete pad for the auxiliary gym on the south end of the high school is nearing completion. Next up is digging out for the foundation. Work also is being done for a new boiler and utilities. The utilities under the current gravel parking lot on the west side are being moved so they are out of the way of the new wing that will include the main entrance, along with science and Career Technical Education classrooms, which includes the new ag education building at the far west end of the new wing.Kurz shared floor plan drawings, along with exciting artists renditions of the new main entrance area. He also shared a rendering of a science room. Another one shared showed the current main hallway, which runs south from the restrooms at the west side of the school, highlighting breakout spaces and pods, which allow for open gatherings down the hallway while providing access to the math, social studies and language arts classrooms. Another drawing showed the senior locker room area between the remodeled classroom wing and the wing to the east that houses music and art.Drawings will be available for viewing eventually on the YSD-1 project Facebook page, which the Pioneer will share on its Facebook page. The visuals are very enticing.Improvements with the auditorium were not part of the original plan, but updating the HVAC for the auditorium was at the top of the districts wish list, so Neenan has been looking at ways to getting into the project. The board was told Neenan has $152,000 in credits it could go toward that work. Three options had been presented, including one that involved a complete new unit that also would entail structural work, such as new steel, that would cost about $20,000 above the $152,000. A third option would be rebuilding the existing HVAC without the need for structural work, with the cost coming in under the $152,000, at around $118,000. The first option would require the district making a decision right now, while the other would not require an immediate commitment. The board later approved a motion going with the rebuilding option with the key wording of if the budget allows. A rebuilt HVAC at least would result in a more efficient unit for the auditorium than it has now.In a related project action, the board approved installing new carpeting in the grades 5-6 wing at YMS, along with along with the hallway that goes to the main office area, and the main office are, for a cost of $38,000, so it can flow better with the upgrades in the junior high wing. Initially, the district had budgeted $125,000 for the carpet and new paint in those areas. However, Chrisman reported Monday night it turns out that was a huge overestimate. The vote was 4-1 go ahead with the new carpet, with the understanding paint would be addressed later, but obviously well under the initial estimate. Holtorf cast the dissenting vote, after earlier in the meeting noting the district needed to show it was being as fiscally responsible as possible after benefitting from taxpayers approving the bond issue for nearly $16 million in the renovation/expansion project. In one final project update, Kurz of Neenan said the hope is to have a Gross Maximum Payment (GMP) for the new wing at YHS in place by September 1. He said Neenan has submitted permits for that phase of the project, and is working closely with subcontractors in finalizing concrete numbers. He told the board that at this point, the hope is a special board meeting will be held August 31 to set the final GMP.
