Following two courses in Fine and Decorative Arts at the Victoria & Albert Museum in the early 70s, shespentfive years as an apprentice forLondons top interior designers and eventually opened her own successful business, SZAPAR DESIGNS. Princess Michael was offered to re-decorate a suite in the Baltschug Kempinski hotel, Moscow, whichled to other commissions in Russia and Europe. Princess Michael spent 13 years on the Board of the V&A, before being appointedPresident of Partridge Fine Art in Bond Street.
As for Princess Michaels style, she says:
I would say that John Fowler had the most influence on my work as I studied the restoration of 17th and 18th century English manor houses. Once I married I had our apartment at Kensington Palace to re-decorate it had not been touched since basic restoration following a direct bomb hit during WWII and then our 17th century country house, Nether Lypiatt Manor in Gloucestershire, which was also in a quite dilapidated state.

Interior designing is a process that can turn interior (inside) spaces into an effective setting (environment) suitable for people's activities and functions.
An interior designer is a person who creates a solution of any interior space. Also, he works on layout spaces of building and technical issues such as lighting, sounds, and temperature (air ducts).
Important things in interior designing include color balancing (matching colors), understanding how colors affect space and moods, knowledge of fabrics, building and electrical codes, and styles and trends.
These steps are required for an interior designer to do a perfect job.
There are specific types of interior design and specializations. Some types of interior design are residential design, commercial design, hospitality design, healthcare design, universal design, exhibition design, and spatial branding.
The designer tries to help customers look after their needs at home, their personality, and style and goals which make the home more comfortable. The designer should dose what the home needs, such as security and convenience.
Commercial interior designers design public spaces such as office buildings, community centers, museums, hotels, stores, warehouses, and libraries. In commercial design the designer have to create an environment that includes function and aesthetics. A commercial interior designer's work includes selecting paint colors, choosing artwork, accounting for acoustics and lighting, picking appropriate furniture, and placing all these together in the manner most appropriate to the venue. Recently commercial interior designers have worked with indoor plants and agro-inventions such as the Grofie Greenwall, which allows firms to bring a tropical forest, vegetable or herb garden right into the office, in order to reconnect office workers with nature. [1]
It is very important to get the office environment just right, and a commercial interior designer ensures just that. They ensure that the office looks aesthetically appealing, promotes a good work culture and radiates productivity. All this is important for a business owner to have their employees feel focused and confident in what they are doing. That's why an office should be feel like a home far from home. Your employees spent almost 8 to 9 hours a day in your office, if your office is not comfortable for them. They can't do their work with 100% productivity. To make your office more productive you need an office interior designer, who can design your office for more productivity and allow your employees to feel comfortable in your office. Furthermore, it is quite important for companies which frequently have clients over for consults, meetings and more. This way, they can establish a strong image of the company in the face in their face even before their meetings begun.
Hospitality designers design the places which have any relationship between guest and host such as hotels. This includes the reception and entertainment of guests, visitors or strangers, resorts, membership clubs, conventions, attractions, special events, and other services for travelers and tourists.
Healthcare design is related to hospitals and how to make a good space to make the patient and staff very comfortable. Healthcare designers compare the evidence-based design with evidence-based medicine; that knowledge can help ensures that future healthcare facilities are built to improve clinical outcomes. In addition deeper understanding of the relationship between the built environment and quality of care will help ensure that healthcare facilities are designed to meet the diverse needs of patients, families, and staff.
Universal design is the design for all people around the world and to creating environments and products those are usable by all people to the greatest extent possible.[2]
There are many different types of exhibit, ranging from museum exhibitions, to retail and trades show spaces, to themed attractions, zoos and visitor centers. All types of exhibits aim to communicate a message through engaging their audiences in meaningful and compelling interactions. Use a wide range of technologies and techniques to develop experiences that will resonate with diverse audiencesenabling these targeted audiences to access the messages, stories and objects of an exhibit.

Convenience
For a kitchen window over a sink or counter, a sliding horizontal window lets in lots of light and is easy to open when reaching over a counter.
Awning windows provide a great option for ventilation during rains. They open outward and provide shielding for the window opening. Like horizontal sliding windows, they also can be a good choice above a sink or countertheir crank systems allow for easy one-handed operation.
Some double hung window models have tilt-in sashes for easy cleaning. In second- and third-story rooms, these windows save you from having to haul out a ladder to clean your windows.
Think about what furniture or other furnishings you might put in front of a window or patio door inside your house. If a table, for instance, is going to be placed in front of a window, consider a casement window that can be opened and closed with one hand from a crank at the bottom of the window.
In a replacement project, you have the opportunity to change the operation style of your existing window or even put in a patio door.
Note: For a French patio door, be sure to consider how you want to use the interior space near it. If your use of this space would conflict with an in-swinging door, consider anout-swinging French patio door or a French-style sliding door.
For a bathroom window or windows flanking an entry, consider privacy/obscure glass options. These provide privacy without the need for window coverings. A variety of colors and texture patterns are available for a translucent to semi-opaque effect.
Transom windows and skylights provide ambient light without compromising privacy.
If your house is near any source of noise, such as a busy highway or airport, consider Milgard's sound controlwindows in Quiet LineSeries. These windows are made with laminated glass (two or more panes of glass bonded together with a plastic inner layer) is highly effective in reducing noise.
To give your home more curb appeal, it pays to choose your windows carefully. Next to the style of a house (colonial, Cape Cod, ranch, modern), windows are the biggest factor in determining how your home looks to the outside world.
Most older homes date back to the days when glass only was available in small panes. So it makes sense, when updating older homes to maintain a traditional look through the use of grids and trim.
Generally, windows in the front of a house should complement the style of the home. For many people, and many home styles, that means a traditional, symmetrical design. This is particularly important in neighborhoods where existing homes set a general style or style is mandated by code. On other sides of the home, you have more freedom.
Assembled in configurations, windows and patio doors can create a wonderful sense of openness that brings the outdoors in and can actually make a room seem larger than it is. Picture windows can be combined with arch "half round" windows to add grandeur to a room.
Flank a picture window with operating windows like casement or single hung to provide view and ventilation. Or place awning windows underneath.
Sliding glass doors (standard or French-style) are a great way to bring in the view without the swing space required by an ordinary door or French patio door.
On first floors, you may have security concerns. To keep your home secure, but still enable easy ventilation, you might consider combinations of picture and awning or casement windows. These windows arehard to pry open when locked. For a living room, consider combos of awning windows above or below a picture window.
Local building codes usually have egress requirements for bedrooms, specifying the size and height of an opening you need to allow in the event of a fire or other emergency. Often, casement or sliding horizontal windows can be a good choice for meeting these codes. Be sure to discuss egress with your contractor or dealer.
A basement window can be a particular challenge if you're also looking to ensure egress. Horizontal sliders are an excellent way to achieve ventilation and permit egress in window wells.
If you have walkways or paths near your windows, you may want to consider windows that don't open out (such as horizontal sliders, single hungs and double hungs). That way, you won't block a pathway every time you want ventilation.
In a child's bedroom, opening only the top sash of a double hung window for ventilation can add an extra measure of safety.
Tempered glass is extremely strong. When it breaks, it shatters into little pebble-like pieces without sharp edges, reducing the likelihood of injury. Window and door manufacturers offer tempered glass for use in patio doors, side lights and windows in children's rooms, and in many cases, there are required codes for the use of tempered glass in bathrooms. Talk with your dealer or contractor to find out what's applicable to your home.
If you're looking to control solar gain due to sun exposure you'll want to use extra high-efficiency forms of Low-E insulated glass to reject more of the sun's heat and damaging rays while letting you enjoy window light.
Windows facing east and west get low-angle sunlight in mornings and afternoons, and windows facing south can get low-angle sun in spring, fall and winter, particularly the farther north you live. All of these conditions can be blinding and especially troublesome in a room used for watching television or working on a computer. High-efficiency Low-E glass, shades, curtains, low overhangs and awnings can be used in various combinations to help alleviate these effects.
Need air? Consider which way the prevailing winds in your area blow. Maximizing ventilating windows along this line can greatly improve the fresh air in your home. A strategically-oriented casement windowcan even funnel breezes into your home.
Is there a side of your house that gets icy blasts of wind? Consider non-operating windows such as picture windows and radius windows on that side. These are among the best options for keeping the elements out of your home while letting natural light in. Be sure to select the most energy-efficient windows you can afford, and keep in mind that smaller windows will be more efficient in these situations.
In a bathroom, you probably will want at least one operable window to vent moisture so you don't have to rely solely on a fan.
If you desire abundant natural light and fresh air, consider window styles such as horizontal sliders and casements as well as sliding patio doorsthat let in lots of air and light.Ventilating skylights are a great way to let in more light whileproviding a place for rising warm air to leave the house.
Windows on the north, east and west walls can all be great for balancing interior light with natural lightbut can be energy drainsin cold climates. Replacing these windows with energy-efficient options can help improve your heating bills.

If you are not on the city sewer system, you need a septic system that you can trust. Every time you flush a toilet, use a sink or tub, run the dishwasher, or wash a load of laundry, waste washes out of your house. That waste carries germs, microorganisms, bacteria, viruses and solid waste that unless properly treated and disposed of, can create a health hazard and a smelly, property-damaging mess.
Septic waste is not something you want to worry about. The right, well-maintained septic system will give you peace of mind. And with Lees Sanitation Service, you can rest assured that we are the septic system partner you can trust to address all of your sanitation needs quickly, professionally and with the very best customer service.
Since 1950, Lees Sanitation Service has been yourseptic system expert. We install and repair all elements of septic systems for homes and businesses, including septic tanks, drain fields and distribution boxes. We perform maintenance services from septic tank pumping and drain cleaning to pipe and pump repairs. And we are licensed onsite septic system inspectors. We can make sure your septic system is functioning properly so that you can rest assured that you will not see your waste once it goes down the drain.
A basic septic system is relatively simple. It consists of three key parts: A septic tank, a drain field and a distribution box that connects the two.
When waste leaves your home, the sewage pipe deposits the waste into a septic tank buried underground. The septic tank has two openings called an inlet and an outlet and each of these openings has a baffle inside the tank to ensure that waste only moves in one direction: in through the inlet, and out through the outlet.
Inside the septic tank, solids sink to the bottom. This is called sludge. Fats and oils rise to the top. This is called scum. In between, waste water or liquid effluent collects. Aerobic (or air breathing) bacteria digest and break down the scum, while anaerobic (not air breathing) bacteria break down the sludge. Not all scum and sludge breaks down. This needs to be pumped out by professionals every three to five years. We typically recommend pumping at least every three years.
The liquid effluent, which is the clearer, partially-treated liquid, leaves the tank through the outlet and is piped to the distribution box. The distribution box disperses the effluent into various lines that run into a drain field.
The drain field, in general, is an underground system of perforated drain pipes lying in gravel trenches. The entire system is topped with topsoil and seeded with grass. The drain field allows the effluent to drain through the gravel and sink into the soil. However, where the gravel and soil meet, a naturally occurring layer of tar-like substance called a biomat forms. The biomat is made up of anaerobic organisms that feed on the organic matter in the waste water, breaking down solids and eliminating viruses and other hazardous organisms in the waste. When the water gets through the drain field biomat, it is clean and safe for the environment.

Acoustic ceiling tiles are lightweight tiles hung in a framework called a drop ceiling. Also known as a suspended ceiling, they are used to hide damaged/stained ceilings, to lower the height of a high ceiling, to muffle noise from upstairs, and to conceal ductwork and wiring while providing easy access for repairs. They are also a quick way to finish a remodeled room.
A suspended ceiling consists of two basic parts: the grid and the tiles. The grid is attached to the walls in a crisscross pattern of beams. The beams have a small ledge which supports the tiles, suspending them overhead. Grids in very large rooms may need additional supporting wires. The tiles are made from fibers of mineral, plastic, tin, composite, and/or fire-rated wood. They are installed one at a time onto the ledges of the grid work. The tiles are most commonly available in 1x1, 2x2, and 2x4.
The average cost for a 10x12 room is around $1,500.00 installed. If you do it yourself, the material costs are:
Although you probably dont require a permit to install a drop ceiling, check with your local codes anyway. There may be a minimum amount of space required between the old ceiling and the new one. Also, if you are adding lighting, vents, or other such features, you may need an electrical or HVAC contractor.
When deciding to DIY or call a professional, you might look at the average 75% savings of DIY. While its considered an easy job, theres a lot of work involved. Ladders and scaffolding take time and labor to set up, and levelling the ceiling grid can be time consuming. For many people, its worth the extra cost to let someone else handle it.
To make sure you know whats involved and that youve hired a good team (even if the team is yourself and some good friends), ask the following questions:
Acoustic tiles are produced for both home and business. Tiles most commonly seen in commercial use include light-diffusing tiles that soften florescent lighting suspended above the ceiling. These can be expensive, costing from $14.00 to $30.00 each.Residential tiles come in different styles from the standard pebbled look most often seen in offices to stamped/embossed tin decorative tiles. They are usually sold by the case, which lists the square footage the case will cover. Remember that the tiles usually measure 2x2. Among the major producers of ceiling tiles are Armstrong, Certain Teed, and USG. Other producers include Genesis, Mono Serra, and Ceilume. Ceilume is known for its embossed designs suitable for Victorian dcor and other more decorative settings.
The type of ceiling tile can affect your cost. A basic white acoustic tile with pebbling will be on the lower end of the scale. This will most likely be a simple mineral fiber with minimal fire spread ratings. However, there are other types of tile.
Because a drop ceiling is made of individual tiles, you can add fixtures in lieu of certain tiles. Some fixtures are added to a tile, but because the tiles are very lightweight, the fixtures themselves must be lightweight or else supported above the tile.
Drop-out tiles work in conjunction with fire sprinkler systems. If you have a sprinkler system, they sit above the tiles, safely out of the way. When heat from a developing fire reaches the tiles, they soften and drop out, allowing the sprinkler system to engage. The cost of these panels varies based on residential fire safety codes and the type of sprinkler system installed.
Pros
Cons
Suspended ceilings are an economical way to finish a room. With ease of maintenance both for the drop ceiling itself and the house, many people are moving this traditionally office-oriented ceiling style into their homes. Rather than remind them of work, theyre finding it offers less work and more comfort at an easy cost to fit into any budget.
