Opt for open shelves instead of upper cabinets to provide display space and make a small kitchen feel larger. Install shelves at standard upper-cabinet height -- the lower shelf is 18 inches above the counter.Build your ownwithourkitchen wall shelfproject.
The most popular kitchen update is installing new energy-efficient appliances, such as a dual-fuel range with convection double ovens, a high-tech range hood, an ENERGY STAR-certified refrigerator, and a water-saving paneled dishwasher. ShopAppliances
Add more personality with new cabinet hardware. Create a cohesive look with a mix of knobs and pulls in the same style family. Shop Cabinet Hardware
Add texture and a pop of color. Ceiling tiles made to mimic the look of antique tin tiles click together like laminate floor surfaces and can be painted to fit any color scheme. Shop Ceilings
Classic white subway tile with a beveled edge is an inexpensive, yet high-impact, backsplash material. Use a herringbone pattern to add interest and movement to walls. Shop Tile
Get the look and texture of stone with all the benefits of laminate. This travertine silver laminate with a bullnose edge looks like the real deal for a fraction of the price. Shop Countertops
Freshen up walls, cabinets, and ceilings with a coat of Valspar Signature paint. Its one of the quickest, most budget-friendly updates. Colors shown are Play Bill (#ar1022) for the cabinets and Crystal Sea (#5004-7B) for the ceiling. Shop Paint
Install soft-close hinges and glides -- and say goodbye to slamming doors and drawers. Shop Cabinet Hardware
Brighten your room with an allen + roth (TM) ceiling light, mini pendants, and undercabinet lighting. Add control with dimmers. Shop Lighting
Laminate shelves mimic the look of the countertops. (Ask your countertop installer to make the shelves.) Add stylish metal brackets for support and to repeat the metallic tones found in the appliances, hardware, and faucet.
This Kohler top-mount, apron-front sink is perfect for remodels -- it requires only a rough cut to existing standard cabinetry, and can be paired with most countertop materials. Top it off with a Delta high-arc faucet featuring a hidden pull-down sprayer. Shop Sinks
Add floor-to-ceiling custom wine storage to the side of a standard-depth fridge for a built-in look.

LawnMowingOnline.com is unlike any other lawn mowing service. We go around the country offering lawn mowing jobs to anyone with a mower, a computer and a digital camera, and when you place a order we send the order to the lawn mowing contractors that are closest to your address. Whoever wants the job accepts it, mows the lawn, uploads before and after photos for customer approval and payment is then released to the contractor.
There's a little programming behind everything but for the most part that's it, a very simple concept, however it took digital cameras and smartphones (Thank you iPhone and Android) with 24/7 instant email access reaching mainstream consumers before an idea like this could possibly work.
The best part is we're putting Americans back to work. Since anyone can register we're giving jobs to those who really need it. If they had worked for a regular lawn care business they might receive $8 or $9 an hour but here they receive double that per yard, and our mowers are given the opportunity to mow when it's convenient for them so they can have an interview or resume a full-time job at any time. Or continue mowing, it's completely open.
But we're not taking jobs away from the professionals! Quite the contrary: many professional lawn care companies use us to fill the gaps. Why would a lawn care company accept $19 a lawn instead of their usual $40+? Simple: their employees are hourly so they have to pay them regardless, so what can they do when they've run out of work for the week? Send them home? Fire someone? Instead, the companies use us to provide them with a few extra jobs a week so they can keep paying their employees. Which means many of our customers have their lawns mowed by professional lawn care companies but pay $19 instead of $40/week and signed contracts. It's a win-win for everyone!

Many people in Carroll County, and around Maryland, are opening up their pools for the year, so we at Westminster Lawn Landscape Supply Yards wanted to post an article with some landscaping ideas around pools.
A swimming pool can be the social centerpiece to the summer for your friends and your family, so its worth putting that extra effort into making it a beautiful and inviting waterscape.
Mulch and landscape stone can turn your pool into an attractive garden space, making your yard into the perfect summer hangout, however you should make sure youre using the right materials, in the right kind of combination.
While mulch is a great landscaping material for placing around plants, be careful not to place a mulched area too close to the water. It can be very effective to have mulched plant life around the perimeter of your pool, as a transition from the pool to your lawn, but take into consideration what happens when gusty winds blow.
Make sure theres enough distance, and preferably a buffer of landscape stone, statuary, and even a fence to ensure that mulch wont blow into your pristine pool water.
1 Pure Red Landscape Stone, with its deep brick red color, blends well with other accents at this home. This particular setting has ample concrete immediately bordering the water, providing a smooth walking area (click here for a coupon for stamped concrete designs around pools).
Between the concrete paving and the lawn, you can create a hardscape wall filled with the decorative red stone, which provides drainage from water runoff from the concrete.
If you have a retaining wall, or fenced border, you can finish this off further with another bed of red stone to allow for easier mowing along the fence line.
Different pool settings will have different needs. Areas without concrete, that may come into contact with bare feet, will require a smoother, rounded stone. Brown Landscape Stone is another option, but it is recommended that you use a larger size, either 1 or 2, which will be less likely to blow when using a hand blower to clean leaves and debris from the beds. The smallest size, , is also referred to as Pea Gravel, and would be too small to use a hand blower to clean out debris.
A very popular option is River Jacks, which are multi-colored and smooth, and lend a very tasteful appearance to waterscape settings. Besides their natural beauty, these smooth rounded stones are easy on bare feet, as well.
Be sure to prep the area where the beds will be by removing or killing all weeds with an herbicide like Roundup. Then lay a thick black landscaping plastic down and spread the stone 3 4 deep. The beds will be easy to maintain and provide many years of landscaping beauty.
Consider plants that wont produce a great deal of debris for your planting. Common choices include upright yews, which do not have large leaves, but shed fine needles, instead. Blue rug junipers are another low-growing option.
Shrubbery should be pruned in fall or early spring while plants are dormant, and the cover is still on your pool. Errant weeds that pop up can be hand-weeded or sprayed with Roundup.
Hand weeding leaves a cleaner appearance, but be sure to get the roots, or they will return. An herbicide will kill the entire weed down to the roots, and the dead weed debris can be removed later.
Take a look at our list of landscape stone products below, and then click here to contact us for more information on delivery and pricing!

The Best Construction Companies in Hudson County NJ Are the Ones Proven Safe To Hire The state of New Jersey requires only that residential general contractors in Hudson County NJ be registered with the state as New Home Builders in order to do residential construction, with no test or exam as to ability or knowledge, so there is no state standard for competency and reliability among custom home builders and other residential construction companies. There is no such registration required of commercial general contractors, such as builders of office buildings, medical buildings, malls and other retail construction.
So obviously even the state registration for New Home Builders is no guarantee that any particular general contractor in Hudson County NJ is even competent, is doing business ethically, providing value, or satisfying their customers.
This makes it all the more significant that all residential or commercial construction companies in Hudson County NJ who bear The Prime Buyer's Report-TOP 10 symbol have been cleared by our research staff as passing all the requirements for Prime Buyer's Report-TOP 10 status such as survey phone calls to previous customers to verify high satisfaction, good complaint record, verified state registration (for home builders), verified worker's comp and liability insurance, only employees legal to work in the U.S., and more.
Step 2: Ask Questions and Take Notes Before you create a list of possible general contractors for your construction project, ask them some important questions about their technical abilities, experience, and the specifics of your construction project. When the general contractors ask you questions, take notes on their concerns. They may reveal some aspects of the construction that are new to you.
Ask the general contractors the following questions about their experience, abilities, and methods:
How long have they been builders in Hudson County NJ specifically?
How many other projects have they done that are like yours? (Custom home building versus commercial building, etc.)
Will the general contractor give you names and numbers of cusomters that you can call as references? (All general contractors bearing the Prime Buyer's Report-TOP 10 symbol have already had customers references called by our research staff so you don't have to.)
How long will it take them to prepare a written bid once they conduct the estimate?
Will they show you proof of workers' compensation and liability insurance? (All general contractors in Hudson County NJ bearing the Prime Buyer's Report-TOP 10 symbol have already had proof of insurance verified by our research staff so you don't have to.)
Will the general contractor prove that all their workers sent to your property are legally allowed to work in the U.S.? (All builders in Hudson County NJ bearing The Prime Buyer's Report-TOP 10 symbol have already signed an agreement to only hire legally documented workers.)
How do they determine pricing? For example is it T&M (time and materials) or a flat price and how are cost overruns handled?
Will they give you a written contract that details the exact brands of products, model numbers, materials and amounts to be used? Neglecting to show those in writing is a way that seemingly cheap contractors unrealistically underbid others to get your project. Either you're getting poor materials that look bad or will fail. or you request better materials once the job is underway and the cost goes up accordingly.
What type of written guarantee does each of the construction companies provide and what are the terms?
Will construction permits be needed? If so, will the general contractors be responsible for getting those or do they leave that to you? Failure to get permits is another way cheap contractors in Hudson County are able to underbid legitimate ones. Unfortunately unpermitted work can stop you from selling the property and even make you liable you to big fines and repair costs to get it to code.
Will they be bringing in subcontractors for your project and if so, what are those company names?
How often and when will they clean up the work site?
When you've chosen the best contractors in Hudson County NJ for your specific needs, make sure they are registered with the state of New Jersey (if custom home builders). (All home builders in Hudson County bearing the Prime Buyer's Report-TOP 10 symbol have already had their state registration status as New Home Builders verified by our research staff so you don't have to.)
Write a Description of the Job for the Builders Write up a paragraph or two (depending on the intricacy of the job) about the project specifics before contacting construction companies in Hudson County NJ. Since each general contractor will see the same written specifics, you'll be sure that you are comparing responses on an equal basis. Then you can better judge which construction company gave you the best answers to your consistent description.
Don't Decide Based on Price Alone It's okay to get a few separate estimates for comparison. But remember, price should not be your only determining factor. The cheap contractors in Hudson County NJ are usually not the best ones, and a cheap bid often turns out to be the most expensive in the long run due to cost overruns, or poor work that has to be fixed or redone by someone else.
Get it in Writing Ask builders to give you everything in writing to prevent conflicts later. Ask the general contractors to provide you with a written description of the construction work, pricing and a time frame for completion.
Maintain Great Communication During Construction. Communication is an often overlooked skill with general contractors. But to maintain a successful working relationship, both parties must make keep one another informed. If you have doubt about how the project is going, don't jump to conclusions. Instead, call and ask the builder about your concerns. There may be a reasonable explanation for changes or delays.
Commitment In Advance to do a Walk-Through Upon Completion After the project is finished, return to the agreement you signed and walk through the site with the most senior staff member available at the construction company to compare the results to the particulars in the contract. Bring up any items that differ from what was agreed to.

This drawing shows a cross-section of a 4' retaining wall.
A retaining wall is a specially designed structure that holds soil on one side and is free standing on the other. They help to accommodate changes in grade in a landscape with uneven topography. These walls often allow steeper cuts to a slope to yield more usable space on a cut-and-fill hillside lot. Hard working retaining walls can be key to creating a level sports lawn or driveway too.
Retaining walls are also used on level ground to raise living spaces above the surrounding ground plain. A well designed retaining wall can elevate planting areas for improved drainage while at the same time creating a seatwall. There is no end to the benefits of these heavy barriers, but they can be costly and must be strictly constructed to prevent failure.
What makes retaining walls so challenging is their strength, which is best illustrated by the incredible loads they carry, known as lateral earth pressure. This is created by more than just the weight of soil. Water behind the wall causes buildup of hydrostatic pressure which is the reason for most wall failures. Only through adequately designed drainage structures and waterproofing can the best designed wall survive over time.
Retaining walls are divided into two types divided by their height. Walls under four feet are designed and built by your contractor or per a landscape architect's drawing. Retaining walls over four feet require much larger footings due to the increased lateral earth pressure. It must be designed by an engineer who will specify the size and extent of footings and the amount of steel reinforcement required according to strict loading calculations.
Building permits often require these structural calculations due to the damage caused by retaining wall failures. This not only destroys your investment, it can cause significant damage to people and property, which puts the homeowner at serious liability. This is particularly important where slopes are unstable and the climate suffers periods of heavy rains that can lead to super saturated soils and catastrophic mudslides. California communities may require additional earthquake related design criteria.
Retaining walls can be a do-it-yourself project when constructed of wood. These short timber walls are an affordable solution to erosion and runoff control. Concrete block retaining wall systems are growing in popularity due to their improved aesthetics and single wall construction that requires less surface area to achieve optimum strength. Dry stone walls are a regional art form and those from colonial times can still be functional today.
The time tested veneer wall is the landscape architect's choice for high end landscaping. With its functional concrete masonry unit (CMU) core, there is no end to the options for swanky stone or brick veneer. This choice offers the designer unlimited options for making each retaining wall unique to a homesite and allowing it to lend style to outdoor living spaces.
Always remember that however beautiful these walls may ultimately be, they are a powerful structure that must function as designed. This can only happen when they are composed of the proper materials and constructed by quality contractors. Get these things right and youll be able to count on your financial investment maintaining both beauty and integrity for many decades to come.
