Missouri Roofing Company Is Providing Residents With These Timely Tips About "Storm Chasers," Who Arrive From Out Of …

    - April 8, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) April 07, 2015

While March 2015 was a slow start to the Midwests storm season, experts are suggesting as a tip that residents stay vigilant as the region moves into April.

For this reason, Gundaker Construction and Restoration Group is advising Chesterfield residents to be careful who they trust with their roof repairs during this famously tumultuous period. While it is important to fix any damage a storm might cause, Gundaker Construction and Restoration Group reminds area homeowners that no one wants to be ripped off by storm chasers."

Missouris storm season begins in mid-March and lasts until September. Gundaker Construction and Restoration Group says they are gearing up for a potentially active few months after an equally busy winter. They are taking special care to prepare for this season, as the past few years have been especially harsh.

In April 2012, we had one of the biggest hail storms on record, said Mike Kossman, Gundaker Construction and Restoration Groups Managing Partner. You couldnt go a day without seeing 10 different state license plates in the area -- all storm chasers looking to get quick cash from unsuspecting homeowners.

Storm season in the Midwest can wreak havoc on homes and properties, and there is usually little that can be done to prevent damage. This usually draws people from around the country who see an opportunity to make money from repair services and scams. These storm chasers typically have little knowledge or practical experience when it comes to correcting various types of roof damage, only the sales and marketing skills to encourage homeowners to buy their services.

Weve talked to people who have been ripped off, said Kossman. Weve gotten calls from customers who have had their roof replaced in the past year or so who have had leaks the following year. We even had one homeowner who was told they had damage even though we had just replaced their roof two weeks prior.

While they may claim otherwise, storm chasers are often poorly equipped to handle roof repairs. Gundaker Construction and Restoration Group reports that many will cause damage themselves when they climb on a homeowners roof, or claim there is damage where none exists. Some may even be committing insurance fraud or other crimes: storm chasers have been known to tell customers that their insurance will cover any type of damage after they make the repairs, or state that their repairs are good for 10 years, even though their company has only existed for 6 months. Missouri does have laws in place to protect homeowners from these types of schemes, but if homeowners arent aware of what is occurring, the laws become null and void.

Homeowners also need to be especially careful of some of the companies in their own backyard. These contractors push homeowners to file claims when there is no damage and they say it does not go against their homeowners insurance, which is false, said Kossman. We interviewed a Project Manager from another roofing company, and he said he averages getting 2 claims approved of every 8 filed, we are always at 8 or 9 approved out of 10 filed. If there is not enough damage to warrant a claim, Gundaker Construction and Restoration Group provides the property owner an estimate for repairs.

Theres a lot of mistrust in our industry and in what people in our industry do, Kossman said. Were trying to change that perception by getting the word out there that people need to take extra care to ensure they arent getting swindled.

What does one do when ones own parents are engaged in a game of one-upmanship, placing ones freedom and right to choose in jeopardy?

This is the central dilemma faced by Zulaikha (Maya Ali) as main protagonist Yousuf's (Imran Abbas) love interest in Mera Naam Yousuf Hai.

Read also: Review: 'Mera Naam Yousuf Hai' is off to a smooth start

In the first episode, the 'Yousuf' in Mera Naam Yousuf Hai bumps into Zulaikha on a train and it's pretty much love at first sight. The problem is that Zulaikha's parents are already lining up suitors for her and the families aren't quite a match.

In episodes two through five, the story has maintained a pretty good pace. It also manages to bring into its fold a supporting cast which is given ample screen time which helps move the story along. The latest additions: Bushra an older divorcee hoping to marry Zulaikhas father; Madiha Yousufs friends sister (who also has the hots for Yousuf), and Tony another old school fellow and fortuitously Zulaikhas neighbour. These characters all have important roles to play in unfolding of the plot.

Zulaikhas father (Waseem Abbas) promises her hand in marriage to his sisters son, Imran Mugeez, while Zulaikhas mother, Afia Begum (Hina Bayat Khwaja) makes her own move by asking her sister Kulsoom to show up with her son, Ali Hamza, to woo Zulaikha. Clearly, both parents are trying to get their way without much thought to their sacrificial lamb of a daughter.

Meanwhile, our dreamer Yousuf is hopelessly in love and trying to get his (as yet one-sided) message of mohabbat across to his lady love through various channels by showing up at her door himself, asking his childhood friend Madiha to convey his feelings, requesting a meeting and finally, throwing caution to the wind and landing up in Zulaikhas room to confess his love and stay (or at least stall) Zulaikhas impending nuptials (groom TBD).

For now the one-sided love stories are adding up Yousufs love for Zulaikha, Madihas love for Yousuf and heck, even Tonys youthful I love you scrawled on Madihas school notebooks! Madiha, played with charm by Mansha Pasha, is ever hopeful that Yousuf will come around. She has been hopelessly in love with him since their school days and is willing to help him in anyway, despite her own heartbreak.

Zulaikha is well aware of her parents' jung, and isnt above playing her parents against each other. Even though her mother says otherwise, it is a sobering fact that even in 2015, there are still enough fathers 'joh betiyon ki saas keech lete hain'. In some way Noor Mohammed, Zulaikhas father, still has control over his daughters one who is not allowed to complete her education and the other who must marry as per his will.

Even though Yousuf has made his way into her dreams in a great scene with their roles reversed, Zulaikha still has to make up her mind. She seems strangely disinterested in the fact that she is about to get married in weeks time, no less, to a person not of her choosing. She wont stand her ground and actually say no but remains hopeful that her mother will fix things.

Dodgers' new additions make immediate impact

"When I hit it, [new second baseman Howie Kendrick] said he got the chills," Rollins said.

SD@LAD: Rollins breaks the tie with a three-run homer

4/6/15: Jimmy Rollins drives a three-run home run down the right-field line to put the Dodgers up, 6-3, in the 8th inning

Kendrick made it a quartet of memorable Dodgers debuts with a triple, double and the pivot on double plays to bail out Peralta and Hatcher in the final two innings.

Rookie Joc Pederson, the new center fielder, doubled, stole third base and started the winning rally in the eighth with a leadoff walk. RBI champ Adrian Gonzalez did his thing with a homer, double and single.

For management, the most rewarding aspect of the game was the rebuilt bullpen, which took over trailing by a run after Kershaw's six innings. In relief of Kershaw, rookie Yimi Garcia preceded Peralta and Hatcher by striking out two in a perfect inning.

"Those guys stepped up in big situations," said catcher A.J. Ellis, getting the start over former Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal to help keep Kershaw comfortable.

It was a milestone game for Hatcher, who apparently will be the interim closer until Kenley Jansen returns, except Mattingly won't announce it. Hatcher said he was never told ahead of time he would pitch the ninth inning and began warming up with the game tied. Upon entering with a three-run lead, he promptly hit Jedd Gyorko with a pitch leading off the ninth.

Plan could make Arden Hills development energy self-sufficient

    - April 8, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

A new report for Rice Creek Commons, the former Army ammunitions site in Arden Hills, says a new solar farm as well as using groundwater now being treated by the Army for heating and cooling could satisfy all the 427-acre developments energy needs.

The report, called the Energy Integration Resiliency Framework for Rice Creek Commons, outlines a vision to make the development the largest in the state to be energy self-sufficient.

At the heart of the proposal are plans to install an on-site 40-acre solar array and use water the Army is now treating to heat and cool homes and businesses.

We have an opportunity to use todays technology to build a sustainable energy future, said Ramsey County Commissioner Blake Huffman, who represents the area.

But the county must move quickly, Huffman said, to obtain a 60-acre site just north of the development to use for the solar array. The solar project must be in place by the end of 2016 to utilize federal tax credits to offset the cost. Ramsey County officials plan to ask the federal General Services Administration to give it the site for free.

In exchange, the county would clean up the site to meet industrial standards, which county officials said would cost about $1.25 million.

When complete, the solar installation would use 40 acres and generate 8 megawatts of electricity. That is enough power to meet the needs of the entire Rice Creek Commons development. Officials say thats also enough power to reduce greenhouse gas emissions each year by the equivalent of removing 1,432 cars from the roads.

The second piece of the energy plan would use groundwater to heat and cool homes and businesses. The Army currently is pumping 2 million gallons of contaminated groundwater each day, treating it and dumping it into Marsden Lake. Heat from that 52-degree water could be captured and used to heat and cool all or parts of the development, said Greg Mack, project manager for the county.

It would be just taking advantage of resources that are there, Mack said.

Ramsey County is seeking to partner with the Minnesota Army National Guard, which owns and operates the Arden Hills Army Training Site next to Rice Creek Commons. The Guards master plan for its training site is to take it off the grid for energy, water and waste, Huffman said.

Green Roofs Get Lift as France Makes Them Chic

    - April 8, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

France, long the world's arbiter of haute couture, is taking aesthetics to a loftier level: the rooftop.

As it spruces up its green portfolio ahead of global climate talks in December, France approved a law last week that requires the roofs of new commercial buildings be coveredat least in partby either solar panels or plants.

Green roofs have gained popularity in recent years as more cities worldwide promote their use as a way to save energy. Some, including Canada's Toronto or Switzerland's Basel, even mandate rooftop vegetation in building bylaws.

Advocates say these roofswhether bedecked in sedums, vegetable plants, or wildflowershelp insulate buildings and thereby reduce the need for both heating and air conditioning.

The impact can be substantial. A study this week by Spanish researchers found that dense foliage can reduce the heat entering a building through the roof by 60 percent and act as a passive cooling system.

Green roofs help reduce runoff by retaining rainwater and improve air quality by absorbing pollutants. By taking in more heat during the day than they can release overnight, the plant-covered surfaces can also lower the "heat island" effect in urban areas that are warmed by asphalt roads and tar roofs. (Green walls offer similar benefits.)

In densely-developed cities, they also offer birds a place to nest and people a place to grow food. (In Brooklyn, rooftop garden grows.)

Green roofs cost more to install and maintain, and their price and complexity deter many homeowners and developers. Yet a 2008 University of Michigan study found that their benefits, including a longer-than-average lifespan, more than offset the extra up-front investment.

France, which relies mostly on nuclear power for its electricity, is taking other steps to green its buildings. Last month, the second level of its most iconic structurethe Eiffel Towerwas outfitted with two wind turbines.
