Are you allergic to your home?

Its allergy season, which means its time to get the carpets cleaned. During the winter, dust can build up in your carpet, even with regular vacuuming. With the arrival of warm spring air, many of us are opening our windows, which can let pollen in. And pet dander can be a problem at any time of year.

Many people think carpets should only be cleaned when they appear to be soiled, but in reality, pollen, dust mites and pet dander are next to impossible to see when they are embedded in your carpet. Steam cleaning your carpet helps to remove allergens but not release them into the air, where they can settle once again into your carpet. Regular steam cleaning at least once a year and more often for those severely affected by asthma or allergies reduces allergens in the home and prolongs the life of the carpet. In fact, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) recommends having your carpet cleaned every three to four months by a professional steam cleaner, like Stanley Steemer. Stanley Steemer is the first carpet cleaning service Certified asthma & allergy friendly.

AAFA certifies products and services as asthma & allergy friendly that are scientifically proven to be more suitable for those with asthma and allergies.. In the case of carpet cleaning, AAFAs Professional Carpet Steam Cleaning Certification Standard includes:

    a) Comparison of surface allergen levels before and after the Steam Cleaning Procedure

    b) Evaluation of airborne allergen levels before, during and after the Steam Cleaning Procedure

    c) Monitoring of moisture levels in carpet and relative humidity before and 24 hours after the Steam Cleaning Procedure

To earn this certification, Stanley Steemer's carpet cleaning process and equipment underwent scientific testing with an independent, accredited testing facility. Getting Certified asthma & allergy friendly was not a simple task and took more than two years of thorough testing by an independent testing group. Testing revealed that Stanley Steemer removes an average of 94 percent of common household allergens from carpet.

To help customers keep to AAFAs recommendation of having your carpet cleaned every three to four months by a professional steam cleaner, Stanley Steemer offers a customer loyalty program, the One Year Clean Guarantee (OYCG). The OYCG program provides three additional cleanings a year at a reduced price, plus 20% off additional services.

Fairdale family cleaning up after temporary road gives way, home floods

    - April 6, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Thursday and Friday's heavy rain caused major damage for one Fairdale family, and the husband and wife say they'll likely be out of their home until summer.

"It started coming through the back door," said Edward Schmitt, talking about the water from the nearby creek.

Just 48 hours ago, his dining room was a flood zone. The water inside was up to 18 inches high.

"When I got up, it was really raining hard, he said. I looked out the front window and I couldn't see my yard or the street."

Schmitt and his wife have lived on Mason Lane for 24 years, and their home is paid for. Unfortunately the couple did not have flood insurance. Schmitt also just had a cornea transplant and can't do any heavy lifting.

"Automatically, I start putting everything up I can put up," Schmitt said.

The family's furniture is now stacked around the house. Carpet, flooring, drywall and insulation all had to be ripped out, and it's now sitting outside, ready to be thrown away.

"Like I said, we just bought that carpet," Schmitt said, pointing to one of the bags full of debris.

An emotional day for the family, who had no idea this is how it'd spend its Easter Sunday.

"I went over to my daughter's house," Schmitt said, fighting back tears.
