From the skyscraping rooftop patio, you'll gape at the magnificent Valley view, with the McDowells rising in the East and Camelback Mountain framed against an orange sky to the West. Overlooking the grassy expanse at the Civic Center Mall, this patio makes for great people-watching. Sothebys International Realty agent Susan Wright recalls that when she and husband Bob, then of Southport, Conn., were shopping for a Palm Beach home in 2005, they knew exactly what they wanted.
We were looking for charm, Susan says. We wanted an apartment in a smaller building with cozy comfortable rooms and a nice outdoor space, and after a long time of looking, we found this. The first time I saw it, I said, This is it.
The it in question turned out to be Suite A at Casa Villagio, a historic four-unit condominium building at 342 Cocoanut Row in the lake block near the corner of Australian Avenue.
At that point, the Wrights werent living on the island full time, but now that they are, they need a little bit more space, Susan says.
If we werent here full time, we wouldnt think at all about selling, she explains.
As owner-agent, she is offering the apartment for sale at $2.15 million. It comprises a living area of 1,730 square feet, plus two patios, which add another 736 square feet.
Casa Villagio is a Mediterranean-style complex built in 1924 and renovated by its previous owners. The Wrights own one of the first-floor apartments, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The unit also has covered parking for one car.
Susan completely remodeled the master bathroom, but other than that, she made only a few changes, including the removal of built-in bookcases, and the addition of freestanding cabinets in the living room and the library.
The apartment looks quite different because of the way its furnished, she recalls, but the gigantic whirlpool tub in the master bathroom felt like you needed a ladder to get in and out of. I never used it.
She replaced the tub with an expansive shower, and she also did away with the bathrooms false ceiling, which is now on a par with other 10-foot ceilings in the unit.

On Good Friday, the pulpit at St. Peters Episcopal Church will feature meditations on the seven last words of Jesus by five lay and ordained ministers.
The Rev. Rodney S. Sadler of Union Presbyterian Seminary and Sardis Baptist Church, St. Peters member Elizabeth Richardson and the Revs. Joslyn Ogden Schaefer, L. Murdock Smith, and Ollie V. Rencher will preach during the three-hour service on April 3. St. Peters, established in 1834, is located at 115 W. Seventh St. at in Center City.
Officiated by the Rev. Jonathan E. Soyars, the 12- 3 p.m. Good Friday service will include chanting of the Passion narrative, intentional silence, exceptional music for choir and organ, hymns, and the solemn act of venerating the cross.
This dramatic service reflects one of many ways for our parish church to boldly proclaim the spectacular story about the unconditional love, justice, and reconciling power of Jesus, said Father Ollie Rencher, Rector of St. Peters. It will be a gift to hear brief sermons about the Crucifixion from a variety of voices before we celebrate the Resurrection on Easter Day.
The Good Friday service is a core aspect of Christians observance of Holy Week, beginning with Palm Sunday on March 29. Palm Sunday services typically include the Procession of Palms and reading of the Passion Gospel. St. Peters will offer several services between Holy Week and Eastertide.

Interior decorator Ashley Clark is one to watch on the Orange County design scene. The Salt Lake City native lives in Newport Beach with her husband and four kids, and is staking her design claim with an online shop as well as a growing roster of residential design clients. Clarks boutique, Skout, specializes in pillows and accessories made of vintage fabrics (think everything from African mud cloth to recycled denim), while her interior design work is all about creating homes that reflect her clients personalities and lifestyles. I like quirk. I dont want peoples homes to feel like a model home too perfect or no personality, says Clark, who often mixes high and low elements. Im able to incorporate some Home Depot or Ikea into a million-dollar home.
When it comes to making high functioning, high-impact spaces, Clark relies on her favorite color (white) and then plays off that canvas with strategic bursts of color, art and pattern. I love contrast, like white sofas, because pillows, art and accessories pop off them. I love dark sofas for the same reason. Her least favorite design element? Tan or beige sofas as in everything blends. Yuck!
When it comes to papering walls, Clark takes a less-is-more approach. Relying on both hip and traditional companies such as Farrow & Ball, Hygge & West, as well as Cole & Son, she prefers papering just one wall in a room or taking wallpaper to the ceiling. I love wallpaper in small spaces. It makes a bigger impact!
