MARK.LEVY@SVHERALD.COM A chain link fence drapes over the rocky mountain side behind the Copper City Inn as work to repair a retaining wall is under way in Bisbee. Rocks from the mountain side fell on the inn as a result of last year's heavy rains.

The Copper City Inn in Old Bisbee has returned to providing its guests warm, comfortable accommodations in the historic district after repairs to a retaining wall behind the innwerecompleted.
It was last September, during the end of the monsoon season, when a rock retaining wall collapsed with a thunderous crash onto the back side of the Copper City Inn, forcing owner Fred Miller to cancel reservations, refund deposits and ultimately shutting down his business fortwomonths.
Check your insurance because if youre excluded or if you dont have flood insurance, you are excluded for any damages that might come from rock retaining walls, warned Copper City Inn OwnerFredMiller.
He explained the City of Bisbee had him close the Inn due to the unsafe conditions, caused by what was left of the wall afteritscollapse.
They said it was an unsafe situation so they closed my inn down until it was going to be fixed, hesaid.
The property owner Dawn Breen, hired an engineering firm that worked with the city to secure the damaged wall that was repaired with a metal support beam and metalfencingmaterial.
Miller says there are 11 other retaining walls in Old Bisbee that were affected by the rainfall lastmonsoonseason.
At the time of the collapse, Miller explained he had guesting staying in the inn and one guest described the event as sounding like a freight train although little external damaged occurred totheinn.

DEARBORN User-paid parking will end for the parking decks and surface lots in west Dearborn as of Sunday, March 15.
About 40 meters along Mason, Howard, and West Village Drive will remain to encourage turnover because they are among the most convenient parking spaces to nearby businesses.
Parking restrictions will still be enforced at the meters on the three streets, and drivers are advised to pay a meter if they park at a meter, or face a fine. Meters will remain along Howard, from West Village Drive to Garrison; Mason, from West Village Drive to Michigan Avenue; and West Village Drive, along Mason to Howard.
The City of Dearborn has transitioned away from a user-paid parking system in the west downtown business district to promote greater interest from real estate developers and to boost customer activity.
The de-commissioning of the user-paid parking system addresses the perception that paid parking is an obstacle to redevelopment.
It also addresses a popular sentiment that paying for parking in public lots, decks and on-street spaces discourages customers who would otherwise patronize west Dearborn businesses.
The City Council voted on Oct. 21 to phase out the user-paid system, based on a recommendation from the Mayor and the Parking Advisory Commission.
Mayor John B. OReilly, Jr. stated in advocating the change:
This is a very positive step that will help us achieve our goal of promoting more investment and activity in the west downtown. To get the best results for our local economy, we need to be realistic and remove anything that is perceived as an impediment to recreating a robust and vibrant business district.
The public parking system will continue to be financed with money from the West Dearborn Downtown Development Authority (WDDDA) and the Citys general fund at a lesser amount than in previous years. Continued...

Demolition began last week of a century-old church building in Shenandoah that housed a convent and an archival center for a possible future saint.
Workers began taking down the three-story building that was constructed as a convent and rectory during the leadership of the Rev. John Dobrowski, who became pastor of St. Casimir Church on Nov. 29, 1912.
From the time of its construction, the convent was the Shenandoah home of the Bernardine Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis (OSF) and was being used as such until last year when structural problems caused the sisters to leave.
The half of the building closest to the church that had served as the parish rectory was the Ciszek Center, the headquarters of the Father Walter Ciszek Prayer League, which was formed in 1985 to promote the cause for canonization of Father Ciszek, a Shenandoah native who was a prisoner in the Soviet Union for 23 years.
The cause officially began in 1989 five years after Father Ciszeks death in the Ruthenian Byzantine Eparchy of Passaic. After the retirement of the Most Rev. Michael J. Dudick as bishop, the cause moved to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Allentown in 1998 through the support of the Most Rev. Thomas J. Welsh, bishop. It was after the diocesan change that the headquarters was moved from Sugarloaf Township to Shenandoah.
The cause for canonization is currently being reviewed in the Vatican.
In addition to memorabilia of the life of Father Ciszek, the building also held a Perpetual Adoration chapel. The prayer leagues board president is Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, pastor of Divine Mercy Church in Shenandoah, with St. Casimir Church as a worship center. Attempts to contact Monsignor Bocian for information on the demolition were not successful.
Prayer league board member Elaine Cusat said the league is in transition with its location due to the need to move.
Were projecting well be getting ready with a new center in the spring, said Cusat.
The new center will be located in the former Annunciation BVM Church rectory on the 200 block of West Cherry Street near Divine Mercy Church and Trinity Academy.
