Over time concrete patios will chip, stain and become an eyesore. Combat this by applying a concrete coating product that will fill small cracks, prevent chipping, and protect from moisture and sun damage. These coating products are applied like paint, with a roller, but are much thicker. As with any paint job, the prep is the most important step. If the concrete surface isnt 100% clean the coating will not adhere or it will peel up later.
You can choose from a variety of colours and, if youre feeling adventurous, you can paint patterns on the ground. Concrete coatings can be applied to wood decks, and provide the same water and UV protection to the wood surface as they do to concrete.

Faced with a $100 million budget shortfall for the current fiscal year and a projected $1.3 billion deficit in the next, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's budget officials have proposed cutting millions in state spending on programs such as part-time jobs for needy students, school meals and college scholarships.
But the crisis didn't stop those same officials from approving Christmas-time raises of up to 12 percent for about 200 political appointees at an annual cost of $1.4 million and it hasn't prevented their going forward with $700,000 in interior improvements, such as new carpets and wall painting, at their own offices in Hartford.
Yes, contractors' bids are to be opened Wednesday for the renovations at the five-story headquarters of the Office of Policy and Management (OPM) the formal name for the governor's budget office at 450 Capitol Ave. The construction cost estimate is $702,000, after a design budget of $85,000, according to a spokesman for the Department of Administrative Services, which is handling the bidding process.
The way to cut $100 million in expenses from the state budget is piece by piece, a few million here and there for school meals and student loans, and a few million or hundred thousand somewhere else.
So why couldn't the state budget officials live with the same carpeting and faded wall paint for a couple of more years?
OPM Secretary Ben Barnes, the governor's budget chief, said in a phone interview that renovations to the OPM building and two adjacent ones housing the state departments of Public Health and Developmental Services have been "under way for years" at a cost of millions including new brick pointing, caulking of windows a roof replacement that eliminated the need for "buckets everywhere" when it rained.
"I understand the sensitivity about this," he said. But "to suspend the project at this point would entail a huge waste of time and energy," and "to let these public assets deteriorate with out proper attention to them would be short-sighted." Planning for some of the renovations dates back to before Malloy took office in 2011, he said.
The other thing about the renovation project is that it's being funded with bonds that will be repaid over 20 years, so canceling the project wouldn't immediately reduce the state deficit by the full $700,000, he said.
Barnes has become accustomed to answering reporters' questions, particularly since the December raises were announced as darkness fell on the day before Christmas Eve. He defended those pay hikes including his own, from $187,000 to $210,000 a year against a public outcry by saying that the appointees are valuable, capable people, many of whom hadn't had a raise in four years, while unionized employees had been.
He said the state needed to compensate them to assure that it didn't lose their expertise by their finding something better elsewhere. Some doubted the proposition that for lack of a raise someone would leave a good-paying state job, with enviable health benefits and a good pension.

So what to do about all thosebumps you say? Well,the best way to approach it is to try not to put in too much effort. Youll always have earthworms and thats a good thing.So, by fertilizing your lawn and maintaining a good thick turf stand you help to mask the bumps in your lawn. If your turf stand isnt as dense as you would like it or you can see thecastings without having to pull away the grass then you shouldseriously consider an over seeding service to sew in more grass seed to help thicken your lawn. Having a good thick turf stand is beneficial in many ways. The more intense approach would be to stop into your local hardware or big box store and pickup a lawn dethatcher. De thatching your lawn in the spring time is always recommended before the green shoots start to rise. But, you can also do this at any time of the season. A lawn dethatcher has metal tines that flick and scrape at the grass helping to remove dead decomposing grass. It also can help break down those dirt castings and relieve some of the bumpiness. It may take several passes to get enough of them to meet your satisfaction.
NEVER ROLL YOUR LAWN!!! Rolling your lawn may seem to be a good idea in this case but it is definitely not. Rolling your lawn compacts the soil making it extremely difficult for turf grass roots to grow and pull in the nutrients and moisture they need. The only time wed recommend rolling a lawn is just after you seeded a new area. That would help drive the seeds into the soil. But you wouldnt be looking to compact the soil here so you would be using a light weight roller. Something that wouldnt do much for squishing the earthworm castings.
Taking the time to diagnose what is really going on with your lawn is the first step in protecting your investment for the longhaul.

Go to a completed landscape project that a landscape architect has designed. Before you visit the site, obtain a plan of the design from the landscape architect if one is available. After completing requirement 1, discuss the following with your merit badge counselor: a. Tell whether the design had separate spaces, a clear path system, and sun and shade variety. b. Discuss how the designated seating, eating, or parking area suited the overall design. c. Explain how the design reflected consideration for the comfort, shelter, and security of the users. d. Discuss how the choice of trees, shrubs, and ground covers used in the project contributed to its appeal and function. Identify five shrubs, five trees, and one ground cover, being sure that you select examples of different shapes, sizes, and textures. With the help of your counselor or a local nursery, choose plants that will grow in your area. Bring pictures of the different planting materials or, if possible, examples of their branches, leaves, or flowers to a troop meeting. Be prepared to tell how you might use each in the design of a landscape. Look at and study a place of worship or school grounds to find the place where most people arrive by bus or car. Show you can do the following: a. Using a measuring tape, measure and draw the entry and its nearby area using a scale of 1/8 inch equal to 1 foot on an 11-by-17 inch piece of paper. Be sure to include the driveway and the wall and door where people enter the school or place of worship. b. Indicate any sidewalks, structures, trees, and plants within the study area. Make a copy of this plan to save the original, then do 4b and 4c using the copies. c. On one copy, use directional arrows to indicate where the water drains across the site, where ditches occur, and where water stands for a longer period of time. Decide how you can make the place safer and more comfortable for those using it. Redesign the area on another copy of the plan. You may want to include new walks, covered waiting areas, benches, space-defining plantings of trees and shrubs, and drainage structures. Find out about three career opportunities in landscape architecture. Pick one and find out the education, training, and experience required for this profession.
