Friday was the kick-off for the three-day expo featuring 113 vendors, local authors with signed copies of their books, crafts, free entertainment in the food court and a free kids play area.

Despite another harsh weather forecast this weekend, organizers didn't seem worried. They are expecting 37,000 to pass through by Sunday.

If it is safe to travel, coming to the HomExpo will be a good opportunity to get out and out of the snow, said Lynda Pozzuto, vice president of events for the Alle Kiski Strong Chamber.

The show is growing with new members, Pozzuto said. So it's not going to be the same old, same old, she said.

A popular new vendor was the Wooden Door Winery in Allegheny Township, which offered tasting of 18 varieties of its wine. The most popular variety Friday night was the winery's own red, a blended wine from its large selection.

This is our first time here, and we are getting a lot of people who didn't know that we existed, said Krissy Pollick, who owns the business with her husband, Jeff.

Croatia has secured seven bids from international companies for onshore exploration of oil and gas in the northern Drava river basin.

The country's Economy Minister Ivan Vrdoljak was quoted by Reuters as saying that the tender process follow a licensing round for drilling in the Adriatic Sea.

As part of its aim to boost energy security and revive its recession-hit economy, the country intends to attract investors.

Although the names of the bidders were not disclosed following the closure of the tender process, the minister said the government was satisfied as the bids were submitted by serious companies.

"This is just the beginning. We have more potential for exploration in northern and central Croatia, particularly in the Dinarides (central mountain range)," the minister said.

According to state hydrocarbons agency director Barbara Doric, the licences are likely to be awarded by next two months.

Comprising six block areas with sizes between 2,100 and 2,600km2, the minister added that the companies had shown interest in all these blocks.

Last month, Croatia awarded licences for gas and oil exploration in the Adriatic, with exploration contracts likely to be inked in April. This is likely to see an investment of around $2.5bn over the next four years, the news agency reported.

Environmentalists are opposed to the oil drilling in the Adriatic region, claiming that it would hurt the environment as well as the tourism industry.

ROGERSVILLE West Greene School Board, at a special meeting Thursday, reviewed the districts options to rebuilding the failed retaining wall at the new elementary center.

The board met with engineers for Michael Baker Jr. Inc. and agreed to move ahead with the construction of a reinforced concrete cantilever toe wall at the site, Superintendent Thelma Szarell said Friday.

Baker was authorized to prepare the engineering design and will complete the bidding process for the walls construction immediately, Szarell said.

The engineers presented several options to the board, all of which would satisfactorily result in construction of a safe, long-lasting retaining wall, she said.

At a building and sites committee meeting earlier this month, the board had reviewed a 700-page report prepared by Baker on the cause of retaining walls collapse. The findings of the report were not released at that time.

The retaining wall, which runs about 760 feet behind the new school and reaches 31 feet at its highest point, collapsed Nov. 6.

The general contractor on the school project, Liokareas Construction Co., filed a lawsuit last week against the district seeking damages for additional work it claims it was required to perform partly in response to issues involving the failed wall.

The company maintains in its suit the design of the wall was faulty. It also claims it had expressed concerns about the walls design on numerous occasions from the beginning of the project.
