A pioneer in the development of innovative aircraft cabin lighting technologies, STG Aerospace is delighted to announce that it has received STC approvals from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for its next generation, photoluminescent, emergency floorpath marking system. safTglo SuperSeal UltraLite (SSUL) is now FAA and EASA approved for Airbus 320 and EASA approved for Boeing 747, 757 and 737 airplanes.
STG Aerospace first launched safTglo in 1995. With its unique, patented fully-sealed design that eliminates fluid ingress, safTglo is a low-cost, low-weight improvement over electrical emergency systems that can reduce maintenance costs by up to 80%.
Hard wearing and long lasting, it requires no power source and can be easily retrofitted to almost any aircraft. Indeed, it has been approved and certified for installation on virtually every aircraft type and is the emergency floor path system of choice for over 300 global airlines and 9,000 aircraft worldwide.
SuperSeal UltraLite (SSUL) represents the next generation safTglo product, and incorporates the same benefits of previous designs but is 70% lighter - helping to reduce airline fuel costs - and 17% brighter.
The highest performing photoluminescent floorpath marking system available in the market today, safTglo SSUL features a reduced profile, making it an optimal match for modern light weight carpets, and a one-piece design with no end caps which means that it can be easily cut to length and sealed during installation.
With over 300 colour options and a unique pattern matching service available, safTglo SSUL enables airlines to achieve aesthetically pleasing, co-ordinated cabin interiors in line with their corporate branding without reducing safety. In addition, carpet edges can be concealed with the OverCarpet polycarbonate housing option that features a hinged-wing design and removes the need for carpet binding - saving additional cost and enhancing even further the appearance of the cabin.
Nigel Duncan, CEO of STG Aerospace, commented: "Obtaining these STC approvals for safTglo SSUL is excellent news for us and for the airlines. As an innovator of light in the aircraft passenger cabin, STG is expanding the boundaries of lighting technology to help OEMs, airlines and MROs meet new challenges.
"SSUL is another great example of this. Building on the outstanding success of our existing safTglo product range, we have been able to develop a market-changing emergency lighting solution. safTglo SSUL brings even more benefits to airlines setting a new standard in emergency lighting performance, while meeting the latest and most critical regulatory requirements."

Feb 20, 2015 The new high-voltage resonant controller ICL5101 provides a high level of integration which translates to a reduction in system cost.
With the ICL5101, Infineon Technologies AG extends its portfolio of lighting control ICs, addressing lighting systems in the range of 40W to 300W. The new high-voltage resonant controller IC provides a high level of integration which translates to a reduction in system cost. Typical applications which benefit from these features include indoor and outdoor LED lighting, high-bay and low-bay lighting, street lighting, parking garage and canopy lighting, office lighting, retail and shop lighting. Since the total cost of ownership is an important aspect for industrial lighting, customers prefer to use resonant topologies supported by the new ICL5101 due to its high efficiency up to 95%.
The highly integrated ICL5101 allows for advanced LED driver designs with approximately 25% less components compared to similar solutions which require separate PFC and resonant ICs. This leads to smaller form factors with more reliable designs, less complex PCB layouts and reduced costs. The ICL5101 integrates the half-bridge and the PFC gate drivers. All operation parameters of the IC are adjustable by simple resistors, enabling cost effective but reliable and stable parameter-settings.The chip supports outdoor use by an extended junction temperature ranging from -40C to +125C.
The LED controller ICL5101 is designed to control resonant converter topologies such as LLC. The integrated digital PFC stage operates both in critical conduction mode (CrCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), which allows an extremely stable regulation in low load conditions, occurring for e.g. when the device is dimmed. The LED lighting can be dimmed down over an extremely wide range from 100% to 0.1% of its nominal load. State of the art dimming today typically ranges from 100% to 5%. In addition, the ICL5101 enables an ultra-fast time to light under any conditions with less than 200ms.
The adjustable PFC stage of the ICL5101 delivers high power quality, providing a low total harmonic distortion (THD) of less than 10% and a high power factor of more than 0.99 over wide line input voltage range. This enables lighting manufacturers to comply with energy efficiency standards. Furthermore the output of the ICL5101 is extremely stable over line voltage variations. A comprehensive set of protection features including external over temperature protection and capacitive load protection ensure the detection of fault conditions and increase system safety.
With the introduction of ICL5101 Infineon once again demonstrates its technology leadership for highly efficient driver solutions. Just recently, the ILD6150 step-down driver IC was nominated as finalists in the product category "ICs and electronic components" for the 2015 LEDs Magazine Sapphire Awards . Infineon will showcase the new ICL5101 at the tradeshow Strategies in Light (booth #1426) from February 24 to 26, 2015, in Las Vegas.

The developer building a downtown Hartford ballpark says it needs $20 million in public funding to include affordable apartments in its next development phase that also envisions a supermarket and parking garage.
Officials with developer DoNo LLC appeared at Thursday night's regular meeting of the Capital Region Development Authority and outlined its plan for the proposed $105 million project directly across Main Street from the ballpark now under construction.
The yet-unnamed project would include 328 one- and two-bedroom apartments situated atop street-level retail space that would include a 62,430-square-foot supermarket, plus another 33,000 square feet of extra retail space, and a 705-space parking garage. Twenty percent, or about 65 units, would be earmarked "affordable'' and offer below-market rents; the rest would be priced to the market.
Yves-Georges Joseph II, vice president of development for Centerplan Development LLC, a partner in DoNo LLC, told CRDA board members that preliminary talks have been held between DoNo LLC and staff of the qausi-public agency about what form their financial partnership might take.
Originally, the mixed-use project was conceived to be built with private financing, Joseph said. However, feedback the developer got about the entire DoNo development project from city officials, residents and other "stakeholders'' insisted that some of the apartments have rents tied to the median income of city residents, he said.
To do that, DoNo LLC calculated that injecting an affordability feature into the apartment project would create a private "funding gap'' of $20 million that CRDA could fill, Joseph said. DoNo assumes a monthly affordable rent of about $650 a month for the units, based on city residents' median income of $35,000 annually. The gap reflects the "funding hurdle,'' Joseph said, that the developer would have to cross to sway investors skeptical about the lengthened recovery period for their investment from having some apartments rent for less than others
The CRDA made no specific commitment to DoNo LLC's proposal that the two partner in financing the mixed-use development but both sides indicated their discussions will continue.
However, Joseph reminded the panel that DoNo LLC's develpment contract with the city requires ground for the mixed-use project be broken by November, which means financing must be completed by Sept. 30 to meet that timetable.

THE gleaming Black Cats Lynx helicopter was welcomed back to its original home at the former RNAS Portland (HMS Osprey) yesterday afternoon after a restoration programme.
The Lynx completed its long life as one of the Black Cats Lynx Display Team and will resume its guard at Dean and Reddyhoffs Portland Marina, on loan from RNAS Yeovilton, until March, 2017.
Senior aircraft engineer for the Lynx, Lieutenant Commander Ben Perkins-Brown said: The Lynx helicopter has been on loan from Yeovilton since the Olympics and the weather had basically began to wear it down.
"A Yeovilton squadron took it away and restored it to its former gleaming condition and returned it to its home here in Portland.
The Westland Lynx (XZ250) that stands as gate guardian to Portland Marina completed its service life after 32 years, accumulating a remarkable 7,667 flying hours.
Dean and Reddyhoff hosted yesterday's ceremony which was attended by the mayors of Weymouth and Portland, Commander Louis Wilson-Chalon, as well as various members of the Lynx Helicopter Force from RNAS Yeovilton, 1st Portland Scouts and representatives from Portland.
Richard Reddyhoff, of Dean and Reddyhoff Marinas, said: I am delighted with the return of the marinas gate guardian which has already caused considerable interest with visitors.
"The helicopter was much missed when she returned to RNAS Yeovilton for some tender loving care."
He stressed the importance of the sites association with Portlands historical past and expressed thanks to the Royal Navy with hopes these links will be maintained in the future.
Commander Wilson-Chalon, who has had the experience of flying the XZ250, said: I remember flying round Portland Harbour and across Dorset.
