Story highlights Feng shui is an important part of Hong Kong life Shopping malls, office towers and homes draw on its principles Feng Shui master Kerby Kuek takes CNN on a tour of city's hot spots
Shopping malls, office towers and homes draw on its principles in their design in an attempt to create prosperity.
And individuals often consult feng shui masters to decide on the best date to get married, give birth or move house.
The run-up up to the Lunar New Year is the busiest time of year for Kerby Kuek, a feng shui practitioner who has published 15 books on the subject.
His clients, which include some of Hong Kong's biggest companies, all want their "annual audit" to maximize their good fortune in the year to come.
He took time out to take CNN on a tour of the city's feng shui hot spots, where the cosmic energy will help you do the Year of the Sheep proud.
It's hard to believe that Times Square, the crowded, traffic-clogged heart of Hong Kong shopping district Causeway Bay, enjoys some of the city's best feng shui.
But imagine the towering skyscrapers are mountains and the endless procession of cars, taxis and delivery trucks a meandering river and it all begins to make sense, says Kuek.
Causeway Bay benefits from what Kuek calls a "feng shui meridian" between four peaks and it's built atop two "dragon pulses" that flow into Hong Kong in the form of mountain ranges.
It's this that attracts the hordes of free-spending shoppers that make the place a goldmine for retailers and landlords.

Political uncertainty and social unrest in first half of 2015.
PETALING JAYA: A feng shui expert has described the Lunar New Year of the Wood Goat as the start of a new era lasting for a decade until 2025 at the least.
Master Soon said generally 2015 is a year of changes, with ramifications long after its passing.
It is like a plane taking off with plenty of turbulence and uncertainties affecting all layers of society, the Sun daily quoted Soon as saying.
He said the new era would last for a decade and go on until 2025 at the least.
He expected political uncertainty and social unrest in the first half of 2015.
The countrys social relations will most likely undergo a rough patch for a short while.
Soon said the economy would be adversely affected as well. Given the years fluctuating nature, one can expect to enter calmer waters by the second half of 2015.
Business will not be good until June, especially the real estate sector, he said, adding that this was the general outlook.
He said business would pick up from June onwards, particularly the small- and medium-sized enterprises.

Pinoys flock to Binondo for Chinese New Year. Hundreds of Pinoys celebrate the Chinese New Year on Thursday, February 19, at the heart of Binondo in Manila. Ram Jimenez
To say hello to the Lunar New Year, feng shui expert Hanz Chua shared his tips with GMA News Online on how to usher in good fortune in the Year of the Sheep.
Clean and cleanse. Welcome the new year by cleaning your home inside and out. Make sure your home is not cluttered. It's also recommended to get rid of broken appliances, gadgets, and other items. Cua warned that an untidy living space and collecting broken things invite poverty. After cleaning, "cleanse" your home by burning incense.
Check your home's plumbing and electrical system. Any leaks in your pipes and faucets symbolize "leaks" in your finances. Light bulbs, outlets, and switches should also be in good condition. Burned out light bulbs and faulty wiring signifies poor "qi" or energy flow, which can affect your good luck this year.
Get a haircut. Attention, single ladies and gentlemen: A new hairstyle can be your first step to finding love this year.
Wear the lucky colors. The feng shui expert said one should wear red for power and green for wealth when welcoming the Lunar New Year.
Get the essential fruits. In feng shui, 12 kinds of fruits should be prepared to symbolize each month of the year. Here are the fruits Cua recommended:
Prepared a "bountiful" media noche. Cua said that greeting the Lunar New Year with a bountiful table invites prosperity. Make sure you serve meat, fish, greens, fruits, and cakes for good luck. BUT, leave a few bits of each dish, which symbolizes you won't run out of food for the rest of the year. Gave ampao. These small red envelopes decorated with golden Chinese characters are given as gifts by the elderly to the children or the younger generation on New Year's Eve. The money inside these envelopes serves as "payments" to appease the ghosts so they won't bother the recipients of the ampao, Cua explained. The red envelope also signifies protection and good luck.
Made a loud noise. The Chinese believe that loud noise drives away evil spirits.
The real source of prosperity and abundance

HOPES for prosperity, wealth and good fortune are usual for the Chinese who celebrate a new lunar year, but does this year the year of the goat or sheep herald different tidings for different people as it kicks off?
The year of the sheep which is also the year of the ram or goat all are correct starts on 19 February 2015 and is the most important Chinese holiday in the year.
Also known as the Spring Festival in China, throngs of Chinese migrate home each year for a family reunion abandoning all work and professional commitments.
Work takes a back seat as celebrants relax for 15 days over the festive season. Chinese New Year to the Chinese is akin to Christmas in Australia.
Every year has one of 12 the Chinese zodiac animals assigned to it. Since 1900, those with birth years 1907, 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003 and 2015 are said to have been born in the year of the goat.
Melbourne Chinese Feng Shui consultant, Lok Tin Yung says the year of the goat, and a "wood" goat at that, will be filled with issues relating to religion and trust.
"Each animal year comes with an element, and this year is the wood. This means there will be plenty of religious world issues around," he said.
"Also the wood element will stir up the earth so we should expect to see more earthquakes."
My Yung also predicts bad energy in the "west".
"Places like Europe, or the western part of a country will have some trouble. And don't renovate the western part of your house," he said.

MIAMI (CBSMiami) Miami Gardens police are trying to figure out who vandalized a number of homes in the northern part of the county, spray painting the letters KKK on fences, walls and mail boxes.
Police say there have been seven incidents reported in the last day or so.
HomeownerHattie Burmon came home from work just to paint over the offensive signs left on her property overnight.
Its hurtful because we work so hard trying to keep our things up and people come and try and do stuff like this. I mean, this is mean and hateful for somebody to do something like that, saidBurmon. You wouldnt think of anything like this happening in 2015.
At a home at 18010 NW 43rd Court in Miami Gardens, the phrases KKK MOVE OUT AND Im Back KKK were scrawled on the walls. The man who rents the home said hes been there for five years says the neighborhood is quiet and something like this has never happened.
Is this insulting to you, asked CBS4s Marybel Rodriguez to a homeowner who wanted to remain unidentified.
In a way weve been going through this for many years and sometimes you just have to ignore this stuff, he replied.
The phrase KKK MOVE OUT was also found scrawled on a homes fence at 178th and NW 43rd Court.
The same phrase was spray painted on a home at 4365 NW 181st Terrace. The woman who lives in the home said whoever did it also tried to paint a swastika on her car. She said she requested extra police patrols because she fears for her safety.

Allen Realty Reports On Electrical Work In Rental Properties
As Simon Allen reports in a recent blog on the Allen Realty website, all electrical work in rental properties must be completed by a registered electrician to guarantee all legal requirements are met and to ensure insurance cover in the event of a fire. There is a limited amount of electrical work that homeowners can carry out in their own home, such as replacing fuse wires. However when it comes to rental properties, it is a breach of the tenancy agreement for tenants to do any work (other than general presentation issues and garden maintenance) without the landlords written approval. This includes building, painting, plumbing, drainage and electrical work.
This becomes particularly important when it comes to electrical work. It is a requirement of the law (Residential Tenancies Act 1986, Building Act, Health and Safety Act) that all electrical work MUST be completed by a registered electrician and if it isnt, then this can negate a landlords insurance.
Following a fire, investigators will examine all electrical fittings and appliances to establish if anything looks different or new, and then may request copies of Certificates of Compliance to prove work was carried out by a qualified tradesman (as many fires are caused by poor workmanship). If the fire is caused by electrical work completed by non-qualifed/non-certified people, the insurance company may not pay out.
Allen Realty recommend landlords and property managers take a careful approach when identifying issues with electrical work, and take steps to protect both themselves and their property if they find anything untoward. Allen Realty property managers carefully monitor the condition of rental properties as part of their property management service and they check electrical fittings and appliances during their regular maintenance inspections to ensure there are no issues with compliance, and if any issues are identified, they arrange for a qualified electrician to visit the rental property to check the work and issue a Certificate of Compliance once the work is confirmed as safe.
Tenants should always be advised of this process and charged for the visit to check compliance.
Regarding repairs, tenants should not have to wait until a landlord has the time or money. Landlords are expected to have the resources needed to complete repairs and make a property compliant. If landlords use a property management specialist they must make sure they follow a set code of conduct and that staff also act in an ethical and professional manner. As a landlord, acting ethically and professionally will help to encourage stable, long term tenancies which help to ensure the rent is paid on time and the property is well looked after.

IT WOULD seem these days if you ask a neighbour or friend to recommend a good electrician or mechanic, in most cases you'll find yourself getting an enthusiastic reply about their experience with someone.
Try asking that same question of a hospital and you may find yourself listening to something of an entirely different nature, particularly if you - heaven forbid - say you may go public.
It would appear not many of us have something good to say about the public hospital system - shame about that because I'm about to share a different story.
I recently found myself in the position of being admitted for an operation following a procedure that diagnosed cancer, and while I have had some experience with both private and public hospitals, I deliberated over which would provide the best care.
My initial procedure was at the Ipswich General Hospital and I found the surgeon to be thorough so I decided to stay in his care and was so glad I did.
Within two days he rang me personally to ask if I understood my position and discussed what was to follow, all why giving me plenty of question time.
He then told me I would be contacted by admin staff from his department. No more than 30 minutes later I was contacted by hospital staff, booked in and again had everything explained to me.
At every point I received a letter confirming details, an SMS reminder the day prior to an appointment and another the next morning - now that's organisation!
With any operation comes test and a pre-op meeting with the professionals that assign the surgeon and it takes time but it's interesting to note that while you don't get a smile from the general public, all six of the pre-op staff that I encountered were smiling, caring and in a happy mood.
So now the dreaded day of the op arrives and it's hard to muster up a smile but once again the entire staff from the desk to the theatre were police and smiling and in a lot of cases I found them to be full of fun, all my nervousness went out the door.
