Schools leader wants capital project in South Glens Falls

    - February 17, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

SOUTH GLENS FALLS -- Getting approval for a plan to upgrade the school districts facilities and closing the budget gap for 2015-2016 are among Superintendent Michael Pattons short- and long-term priorities.

Patton outlined the districts financial affairs and capital needs at a recent community budget workshop.

South Glens Falls schools have not undertaken a capital project since 2001.

The district would like to build an addition to the high school to house new science laboratories. Patton said the science classrooms are now located in the oldest part of the building. He would like to relocate the district offices to where those science rooms are.

Right now, the high school is at 100 percent capacity. There isnt too much free space in the building, he said.

Also being explored is the construction of additions onto Ballard and Tanglewood elementary schools. Both buildings need more room for larger media centers and space for support services such as reading intervention, according to Patton.

Theyre working in very tight quarters, he said. Often times, they could be in offices the size of a closet.

Patton said district officials also want to improve the traffic pattern at the high school by separating the bus traffic from the car traffic of parents dropping off children and students driving themselves to school.

The project would also include construction of a new bus garage. The present garage, located behind Harrison Elementary School, has served well beyond its useful life, according to Patton.

School officials want to build a new garage on a site elsewhere in town, for which they need 14 acres.

Get ready for 'Homespun Fun' at county fair

    - February 17, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Have a roll of duct tape sitting around? How about that old chair in the back of the garage? Santa Barbara County Fair coordinators have plans that may help spruce up your storage space while getting your creative juices flowing.

Fair coordinators, volunteers and Santa Maria Fairpark staff have been busy at work this winter preparing for the 128th Santa Barbara County Fair slated for July 15 to 19. The exhibitor handbook is now available, complete with deadlines and details about the annual event.

Each year, the exhibits staff tries to add new categories and make contests that appeal to the community, said Joe Brengle, deputy manager of Santa Maria Fairpark.

The 2015 fair theme Homespun Fun will be highlighted by new contests focused entirely on local creations. Paper art, duct tape art and painted chairs top the list of new contest divisions, while gardeners are invited to demonstrate their prowess with the new largest-tomato contest.

Duct tape has been around for ever, but the thought of creating things with it has blown up, Brengle said.

Duct tape art similar to the calla lilies shown will be one of the new contests offered. The 2015 fair theme "Homespun Fun" will focus entirely on local creations including paper art and painted chairs.

Competitors in the duct tape art division may enter clothing, flowers, wall hangings or any other item made of the sticky, colorful sealing tape.

The painted chair division is perhaps the simplest of all contests in this years fair: take any chair, paint it in any fashion, and enter in the fair.

Itll make a great display, and its the kind of fun project anyone can do, Brengle said.

Farm Supplys Quiz Jam kicks off the week of fairpark fun when it returns to Minetti Arena on July 13. Beginning at 5 p.m., four-member teams of area youth representing their 4-H and Future Farmers of America clubs will test their chops at farm skills which may include putting a tire on a tractor, demonstrations of roping skills, vaccination and ear-notching skills. Entries available at Farm Supply beginning June 15.

Sound Seal Completes Wood Grill Acoustical Ceiling Panel Installation at Austin Chinese Church

    - February 17, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Agawam, MA (PRWEB) February 17, 2015

Sound Seal, a leading manufacturer of acoustical and noise control products serving the industrial, architectural, commercial and construction industries, announced today that the Austin Chinese Church in Austin, Texas selected its WoodTrends WoodGrill ceiling panels for their acoustical needs.

The WoodTrends WoodGrill panel was the logical choice for the religious facility, which wanted to deliver an improved acoustical experience for its congregants while adding to the design aesthetics of the space. Another important factor in the decision was longevity. With the intent of the install being long term, the WoodGrill product was the obvious choice as the birch veneer finish will hold up to the fluctuations in temperature and humidity that is typical for the region. WoodGrill panels are also highly customizable for customers specific applications, which was a critical component for the large-scale installation of 3,420 sq. ft.

The manufacturing process for the WoodGrill panels combines both solid wood and veneered MDF to make panels incorporating different blade sizes and spacing. There were many panel groupings at different heights in the Austin Chinese Church, which made perfecting the layout of the ceiling critical. The Sound Seal team specified an 11/16 wide by 1 high blade with six blades per panel. After slicing, the veneer was laid up by hand with particular attention to color, grain structure, and overall size.

To provide the owner with a ceiling that performed as good as it looked, the back-side of the panels were covered with an acoustic textile combined with a generous percentage of open area provided by the blade spacing. This construction allowed for a full 0.75 NRC rating per ASTM C423 to be achieved, and thanks to the range of customizable options available in the WoodGrills line, acoustical materials were configured in the best way possible to accomplish the optimal acoustical result.

Creating attractive acoustical panels that can withstand the unique conditions of the Austin Chinese Church ensures that congregants will enjoy their beauty and quality for years to come, said Dave Gilbert, general manager for Sound Seal. This project posed challenges that demanded a coordinated approach between the design, installation and acoustical teams, and the end result speaks for itself: beautiful, durable wood veneer panels that deliver outstanding acoustical performance in a cost-friendly package.

About Sound Seal Since 1978, Sound Seal has been a leading manufacturer of acoustical noise control products offering the widest product selection in the soundproofing industry with innovative solutions and outstanding customer service. Sound Seal consists of three product divisions: the Industrial Division that addresses in-plant noise control and environmental noise control; the Architectural Division that handles interiors and finishes, including an award winning line of WoodTrends products; and the Impacta Flooring Division that offers floor underlayments. LED High Bay features CRI of 70+.

    - February 17, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Access Fixtures, a leader in commercial and sports lighting, has announced the production of a new 158w LED high bay that uses 66% less energy than a 400 watt metal halide (MH) high bay, yet has equivalent light output. The LEDs in the high bay are rated LM70 at 100,000 hours. Over the course of 10 years, the LED high bay is expected to reduce operating cost by $2,385.86. In many instances, the payback is less than 2 years. The 158w LED high bay is ideal for illuminating large indoor areas such as large retail applications, warehouses and sports facilities such as high school gyms.

"LED light sources now provide superior lumen output in many of Access Fixtures' most popular luminaires, enabling an energy-efficient and long-lasting alternative to even metal halide," said Access Fixtures CEO, Steven Rothschild. "The new LED high bay uses only 34% of the energy as its metal halide equivalent while providing all the benefits of LED."

Compared to metal halide, LED is long-lasting, energy-efficient, requires minimal maintenance, and has a higher color rendering (CRI) of 70+. With higher CRI, Kelvin and directed light, the LED high bay luminaire will appear to emit more light than the 400w metal halide. The LED will emit more light than the MH after 40% of the metal halide lamp life. Also, this LED luminaire has instant on/off capabilities, enabling it to be compatible with occupancy sensors. Dimming for applications such as daylight harvesting is available as an option. Access Fixtures LED high bay luminaires are assembled in USA with USA and imported parts.

About Access Fixtures Access Fixtures offers commercial and sports lighting for less, and features light fixtures with LED, induction, eHID, PS-MH and CFL light sources that are long lasting and energy saving. With custom manufacturing capabilities, Access Fixtures can competitively build and custom finish luminaires and poles to the performance specifications required. Access Fixtures' extensive lineup of interior and exterior lighting fixtures includes products for sports, commercial, industrial, residential and hospitality applications. Luminaire types include wall packs, area lights, bollards, garage lighters, vandal resistant, exit and emergency, high bay, low bay, linear fluorescent, track lighting and grow light fixtures.
