It all began over100 years ago, when electroluminescent phenomenon was first discovered in 1907 by a British experimenter, H.J. Round, using an electrified probe on a chunk of silicon carbide crystal, produced the first visible shafts of light, however Russian scientists credibly reported the first creation of LED in 1927.
After various experimental reports in the 50s, American experimenters Robert Brady and Gary Pittman, working at Texas Instruments in 1961 found that gallium arsenide emitted infrared radiation when electrical current was applied, although this light was not visible to the naked eye is allowed mass adoption of LED for infrared control devices.

in 1968 the Monsanto company first organized mass produced visible LEDs using gallium arsenide phosphate. High output blue LEDs have revolutionized the computer industry with advancements in blue Ray technology.(The first blue LEDs using gallium nitride were made in 1971 by Jacques Pankove at RCA Laboratories)

Although silicon dioxide or Quartz is an abundant compound in the Earths crust, it must be converted into pure silicum or silicon, through advanced scientific precipitation process. Other processes (Zohnenschmelz or Czochralski process) are required and then it is pulled or grown into crystals up to 20 cm wide with a length of up to 2 m! These crystal extrudes are now called wafern and must go through a further crucial doping procedure in which the wafer in are bombarded with ions from foreign atoms in sophisticated accelerator chambers.

A landscape architect, a small-business owner and a schoolteacher are competing in Tuesday's primary election to fill a vacant seat on the Milwaukee County Board.
Wauwatosa Ald. Jason Wilke, Nicholas Hunt and Edward Cullen the son of the former supervisor who held the seat want to represent the board's 15th District in the final year before major changes are coming, including a pay cut, reduced authority and a part-time job status for supervisors.
Wilke, 42, is the only candidate with experience in public elective office. He has served on the Wauwatosa Common Council since 2009. He works as a landscape architect with the Waukesha County Parks Department.
Hunt, 34, is the owner of Nova Energy & Automation in Milwaukee, maker of power distribution panels for medical imaging equipment, and a few other businesses. He described himself as an entrepreneur with a work history as an accountant and financial analyst for General Electric and Johnson Controls.
Cullen, 23, who goes by Eddie, is a first-grade teacher at the Lloyd St. campus of Milwaukee College Prep, a public charter school.
A special nonpartisan election is needed to fill the seat vacated by the resignation of David Cullen. Cullen was elected Milwaukee County treasurer in November.
The top two finishers in the primary will compete in the April 7 general election. The winner will represent the district for the final year of the term.
The district on the west side of the county extends from the north edge of West Milwaukee and the Zablocki Veterans Affairs Medical Center through Milwaukee neighborhoods to the east side of Wauwatosa before turning west toward the intersection of U.S. Highway 45 and Capitol Drive.
After the April 2016 election, supervisor terms will change from four years to two, under a 2013 state law known as Act 14. The law also took away the Milwaukee board's power to negotiate contracts and land sales.
At the same time, supervisor pay will be cut in half, to about $24,051 a year, to comply with a 2014 referendum required by the law. The board chairman's salary also will drop 50%, to about $36,000.

Three vie for chance to fill vacant County Board seat
There are few structures in the garden more prominent than a gate. A good garden gate can invite a person into the garden, protect the garden from intruders, and becomes a feature to draw the eye. This weekend I put together a gate for my vegetable garden fence (which is still under construction). I managed to complete the majority of work on the gate over the weekend but I still have some odds and ends before I would call it a finished project.
All materials for this project were supplied by Lowe's and the Creative Ideas Network of Bloggers!
I began making the two gates by using 2x4's to create a frame. To connect the lumber together I used an angle drilling tool called a Kreg. It makes these nice little pocket holes and allows you to get a solid grip at an angle with your screws.
I still need to sand down the wood, adjust the frames so they swing easier, fix the trellis insert, and maybe stain the gate. This was all I had time to accomplish this weekend and I'm pleased with the progress! This gate should prevent the deer from waltzing though the front door to my garden. Now I just need to finish the design and the rest of the fence!
