HAMILTON: Relieved South African captain AB de Villiers forecast Zimbabwe will cause upsets in the World Cup after his team upstaged their African rivals in a nervy start to the tournament on Sunday.

South Africa were indebted to a brilliant career best 138 not out by David Miller and JP Duminy's unbeaten 115 for a commanding total of 339 for four before restricting Zimbabwe to 277 all out in a 62-run win at Hamilton's Seddon Park.

Miller and Duminy lifted the Proteas from a nervous 83 for four during a new one-day international record stand for the fifth wicket of 256 .

I am very happy at the performance, we had a really good game today, said de Villiers as South Africa, bidding for a maiden World Cup title, made a winning start to their Pool B campaign.

But de Villiers warned Zimbabwe could upset one of the more fancied sides before the end of the tournament.

They (Zimbabwe) played some excellent cricket and I will not be surprised if they upset a couple of teams in this World Cup, the Proteas captain instead.

Reflecting on Sunday's match, de Villiers said Zimbabwe had made the most of winning the toss.

There is no doubt that played a good part in getting them ahead early on as it was a really difficult wicket to bat on in the first 15 to 20 overs.

It got easier and luckily David and JP made full use of that and played exceptionally well in that great partnership that won us the game today.

We have seen David demolish the attacks like that and he is capable of that, said de Villiers, himself one of the most feared ball-strikers in world cricket.

BMC demolishes ramp outside Shah Rukhns Bandra bungalow

    - February 15, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation demolished an illegal ramp outside actor Shah Rukh Khans sea-facing Mannat bungalow in suburban Bandra on Saturday, after he failed to respond to a demolition notice, civic officials said.

A 25-member demolition squad with one JCB reached the bungalow and started work at 7 a.m.The ramp was built by the actor to park his vanity van alongside the bungalow.

However, local Bandra residents objected and lodged several complaints stating that the ramp was a hindrance in accessing the Mount Mary Church.

When the civic body did not act, BJP MP from Mumbai North West Poonam Mahajan shot off a letter to Municipal Commissioner Sitaram Kunte, demanding action. Mr. Kunte then directed the civic administration to serve a seven-day notice on the actor.

Contractor: Demo plan was flawed in deadly overpass collapse – Quincy Herald-Whig | Illinois & Missouri News, Sports

    - February 15, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

CINCINNATI (AP) - A flawed demolition plan contributed to the collapse of a highway overpass that killed a construction worker in Cincinnati last month, the contractor for the construction project said.

The preliminary findings from an independent engineering firm have been sent to federal and state investigators, according to a statement released Saturday Kokosing Construction Company Inc.

"Our engineering firm has told us that it wouldn't work the way it was," Brian Burgett, chief executive officer of Columbus-based Kokosing, told The Cincinnati Enquirer.

The collapse during demolition work to remove an Interstate 75 ramp bridge just north of downtown Cincinnati killed Brandon Carl on Jan. 19. The parents of the 35-year-old father of four from Augusta, Kentucky, filed a lawsuit a week ago Ohio's Department of Transportation, charging negligence and carelessness.

A Michigan truck driver traveling on I-75 also was injured in the late-night collapse when the front of his vehicle was crushed by the impact with the concrete and debris.

Kokosing said earlier this month that the demolition plan was changed just hours before the structure collapsed, but the company now thinks the plan was flawed from the beginning.

The plan was missing key details and didn't say how workers should remove the ramp's concrete road surface, the company said.

"I am very sorry, and all of us are deeply troubled by these findings," Burgett told the Enquirer.

He said the company's internal investigation is continuing and that other contributing factors are being considered.

Kokosing has changed its bridge demolition policy, which will now include oversight from an outside engineering firm. "We now need to do everything in our power to make sure a tragedy like this never happens again," Burgett said.

New home requires partnership between builder, buyer, with eye toward resale

    - February 15, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

As Scott and Andrea Stritzke contemplated a move to the Dane County area from their two-dog home in Des Moines, Iowa, the question of whether to build new or buy an existing home was deceptively simple.

The couple had searched the available home inventory, which remains limited as the market continues its slow recovery, and couldnt find what they wanted, making new construction to meet their needs a logical choice.

But the home also couldnt be too close a fit, they were warned, if they hoped to re-sell it easily one day.

Ive seen some homes that are so custom-built that it really has to be sold to someone who is just like (the original owners), and maybe one other person out there, said Michelle Ames, a Keller Williams agent whos helping the Stritzkes with their new home, to be designed and built by Mount Horeb builder Jim Campbell.

Make sure you build a new house for you and what you need, but at the same time, you cant make it so specific that you wont be able to re-sell the house, Ames tells all her buyer clients. Then youve spent a lot of money that youre never going to see again.

Campbell also offered advice as he helped the couple decide how to position the planned four-bedroom, ranch-style home with a finished basement on a 6.5-acre, wooded site between two valleys south of Belleville.

Its just a really pretty area, said Andrea Stritzke, a lawyer whos been living in a rented Madison townhouse since September, when she started working for a local insurance company. We wanted a house that would fit well with the land and accommodate our lifestyle. We have two dogs and no kids.

Campbell said designing a house so it complements the surrounding landscape is his No. 1 duty as a builder, while working with clients who arent open to the push-and-pull of sharing ideas is his biggest deal-breaker.

Its really in the first 30 seconds you know if youre going to get along or not, Campbell said. Our process is just so personal. I tell people its like a marriage: if it doesnt start off good, its never going to get better.

More broadly, Campbell and other industry sources warned potential buyers to be ready to pay more to build a new home, after material costs rose sharply over the past year and building activity increased since 2012.
