Some report impostor animal control officers stealing pets

    - February 12, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

    YORK COUNTY, S.C.

York County sheriff's deputies are investigating reports that someone has been stealing pets in the western part of the county, possibly impersonating animal control officers.

On Wednesday, the Sheriff's Department could not provide Channel 9 with incident reports where people claimed that fake animal control officers were taking animals.

However, several did report that a scratched up, white Ford F-150 was the suspect vehicle, and calls into crime stoppers are now being investigated.

Sheena Branch owns several dogs at her rural home outside York. Last September her mother Debbie Bradley was home when two men in a white F-150 pulled up in the yard.

"They came by wanting to know something about paving the driveway, and I said they'd have to come back later," Bradley said.

She said the men seemed suspicious, and didn't immediately leave after she told them to. Later that same day they noticed their Yorkie named B.J. was missing.

"He went missing, and he never came back." Branch said. "He was our family animal, now we don't have him anymore."

It wasn't until this week when crime stoppers of York County put out a warning online about someone taking pets and claiming to be animal control that Branch thought it could be the same thing that happened to her.

"The truck was the same. A white truck, and I hate that this could be happening to other people," she said. "I talked to the officer and he said the details I had given him were very similar to the other details that they had received."

Final warning: Sidewalk stalls demolition soon

    - February 12, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

THE Davao City Demolition Unit (CDU) is set to give their final warning to vendors who violate the one-third-two-third policy at Bankerohan Public Market Thursday before conducting a demolition operation in the area this week.

CDU head retired Colonel Yusof Jimlani said that they plan to push through the said demolition in the area together with the Traffic Management Center (TMC) on Friday.

The said demolition operation had been postponed since December last year.

"Sa tinuod lang, involve man gud ug bugas maninda sila tungod makapalit sila ug bugas pagka hapon so naningkamot pud ta na mangita ta ug lugar nila na kabalhinan (To be honest, this is about subsistence, they are selling in order to buy food in the afternoon so we are trying our best to look for a place for them to transfer)," TMC chief retired superintendent Rhodelio Poliquit said.

Jimlani also said that the delay was also due to the effect of the recent events that had happened in the country such as the visit of Pope Francis and the Mamasapano, Maguindanao incident.

"The way I look at it, lain man pud gud na after sa mga nahitabo sa Pilipinas mag-demolish ta didto, dili pud ta ganahan na tan-awon ta nila as irreligious (It is not right that after all that happened in the Philippines we will proceed with demolishing there, we do not want them to look at us as irreligious)," he said.

Jimlani said they will deploy a total of 60 personnel for the demolition operation.

As their demolition operations resumed last January 5, he said that they already had 20 confiscations from their operations around the city wherein most confiscated were fruits that have been donated to charity institutions.

Report: Bridge demolition flawed, ODOT leader says

The state's top transportation official says something was flawed in the demolition of the old Hopple Street overpass the first public comments from a state official about last month's incident that killed a construction worker.

"We had a plan and it failed," Ohio Department of Transportation Director Jerry Wray told state lawmakers Tuesday, according to a report by Gongwer, an online-only, independent statehouse news service.

Wray briefly addressed the Interstate 75 bridge collapse incident while speaking to members of the House Finance Committee about the state's $5.9 billion transportation budget proposal. Lawmakers asked Wray questions about crumbling bridge infrastructure across the state, but Rep. Alicia Reece, D-Bond Hill, then asked ODOT's leader about the Jan. 19 Hopple overpass collapse that killed a Kokosing Construction Co. foreman, according to Gongwer.

Wray told lawmakers ODOT's investigation is ongoing, and the state doesn't know exactly what went wrong yet in the demolition process.

Gongwer also reported Wray said another contractor reviewed the demolition plans.

ODOT officials clarified to The Enquirer on Wednesday that an independent engineer has not yet fully reviewed the plan, and Wray was referring to Kokosing's two engineers who developed, approved and reviewed the demolition plan.

Columbus-based Kokosing is the lead contractor on a $91 million project that is remaking a part of I-75, including building the new Hopple Street interchange.
