You may be able to find carpet remnants at a discount to install in a small room.
Installing carpet in a small room is a quick way to brighten the space. Whether you choose a plush pile to accent contemporary furnishings or a subdued Berber-style carpet to match a traditional decor, your Bay Area home will be revitalized by the carpet installation. A small room is particularly easy to carpet, because you dont need to seam it. Specialized tools that you can rent, such as a knee kicker, also help simplify the installation process.
Take everything out of the room. Pull up floor heating vents.
Remove the existing flooring, following all local guidelines for disposal. If you suspect the old flooring contains asbestos, hire a professional to remove it. Clean the subfloor with a broom or shop vacuum. Secure any loose nails or screws.
Inspect the floor for any uneven spots. Apply flooring compound to uneven floors, as necessary, with a wide-bladed putty knife or drywall knife, following manufacturers directions. Allow the flooring compound to dry according to manufacturer's directions.
Remove quarter round from the perimeter of the room. Pry it off carefully with a pry bar so you can reattach it later.
Measure and cut tackless strips 1/4 to 1/2 inch away from the perimeter of the walls. Do not install them in doorways. Place the strips so the tacks face toward the wall. There shouldnt be any gaps between strips. Set the strips in place with nails set every 8 to 10 inches.
Place padding in the room so that the padding touches but does not cover the tackless strips. Cut padding, as necessary, with a utility knife. Do not overlap padding pieces or leave any gaps. Join seams with duct tape.
Measure the length and width of the room. Add 6 inches to each dimension.
Unroll the new carpet in another room of the house. Mark the dimensions -- including the 6 inches extra for each dimension -- on the carpet with chalk lines. Cut pile carpet on its back and other carpet from the front, using a straightedge tool to help you cut straight lines.

A pioneer in the development of innovative aircraft cabin lighting technologies, STG Aerospace is delighted to announce that it has received STC approvals from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for its next generation, photoluminescent, emergency floorpath marking system. safTglo SuperSeal UltraLite (SSUL) is now FAA and EASA approved for Airbus 320 and EASA approved for Boeing 747, 757 and 737 airplanes.
STG Aerospace first launched safTglo in 1995. With its unique, patented fully-sealed design that eliminates fluid ingress, safTglo is a low-cost, low-weight improvement over electrical emergency systems that can reduce maintenance costs by up to 80%. Hard wearing and long lasting, it requires no power source and can be easily retrofitted to almost any aircraft. Indeed, it has been approved and certified for installation on virtually every aircraft type and is the emergency floor path system of choice for over 300 global airlines and 9,000 aircraft worldwide.
SuperSeal UltraLite (SSUL) represents the next generation safTglo product, and incorporates the same benefits of previous designs but is 70% lighter helping to reduce airline fuel costs and 17% brighter. The highest performing photoluminescent floorpath marking system available in the market today, safTglo SSUL features a reduced profile, making it an optimal match for modern light weight carpets, and a one-piece design with no end caps which means that it can be easily cut to length and sealed during installation.
With over 300 colour options and a unique pattern matching service available, safTglo SSUL enables airlines to achieve aesthetically pleasing, co-ordinated cabin interiors in line with their corporate branding without reducing safety. In addition, carpet edges can be concealed with the OverCarpet polycarbonate housing option that features a hinged-wing design and removes the need for carpet binding saving additional cost and enhancing even further the appearance of the cabin.
Nigel Duncan, CEO of STG Aerospace, commented:Obtaining these STC approvals for safTglo SSUL is excellent news for us and for the airlines. As an innovator of light in the aircraft passenger cabin, STG is expanding the boundaries of lighting technology to help OEMs, airlines and MROs meet new challenges. SSUL is another great example of this. Building on the outstanding success of our existing safTglo product range, we have been able to develop a market-changing emergency lighting solution. safTglo SSUL brings even more benefits to airlines setting a new standard in emergency lighting performance, while meeting the latest and most critical regulatory requirements.

Boise, ID (PRWEB) February 11, 2015
The YMCA of Boise, ID, has recently upgraded the lighting system in their Aquatics Center. Aquatics Director Mike Kapuscinski discussed the importance of the enhancement for his facility with Global Energy & Lighting.
As the Director, Kapuscinski teaches swim classes, supervises lifeguards, and oversees the safety of YMCA programs, staff, and patrons. The YMCA is continually looking for ways to save on energy costs, and it is his responsibility to ensure the pool lighting is both energy-efficient and safe.
To demonstrate the need for effectual lighting of a large indoor pool, Mr. Kapuscinski explained a test routinely used to evaluate on-duty lifeguards. During operational hours, without notifying any personnel, an object similar in size and shape to a hockey puck is discreetly placed in the water. The on-duty lifeguards must notice the puck within a few moments of its placement and act to retrieve it. However, due to an occurrence known as blind spots, this test proved difficult for lifeguards at the facility.
Blind spots are small areas of the pool where visibility is obscured by dim light at the bottom and bright light reflection on the surface. Variations in light output from the old lamps made dramatic differences in visibility depending on where one stood. Mr. Kapuscinski commented, Before the retrofit the pool had several blind spots, each of which required lifeguards to dedicate a significant amount of time checking and re-checking from different angles.
Because blind spots made it difficult to recognize a drowning swimmer, lifeguards were forced to devote an unbalanced amount of attention to them, leaving the rest of the pool less adequately observed.
With the new illumination from Global Energy & Lighting, the blind spots that once plagued the pool are gone. Pucks used in the lifeguard tests are easily recognizable from the poolside or tower. Additionally, because the retrofit kits provide projected lifetimes of 50k+ hours, with only 10% light variance over that lifetime, the retrofit effectively eliminated light variance over the pool.
In total, the YMCA replaced the 400-watt metal-halide systems with 140-watt CeramaTek kits, cutting annual energy costs by 67%, and reducing carbon emissions by 1.3 tons. With the retrofit complete, the YMCA is on track to achieve a 1.8-year return on their investment.
The YMCA has always cultivated a socially active and environmentally conscious image. Through this lighting retrofit they continue to set an example to businesses and communities for sustainability and efficiency, while also demonstrating their commitment to the safety of their patrons. Global Energy & Lighting is proud to help the YMCA achieve safety and sustainability, both in business and recreation.
About Global Energy & Lighting Global Energy & Lighting manufactures and distributes cost-effective, energy-efficient commercial lighting solutions. The executive team is headquartered in Eagle, Idaho, R&D in San Jose, and international sales offices located in Dubai and Malaysia. With an R&D team that is continually working toward innovations that will increase energy performance and efficiency, Global products are engineered to the highest standards. The company also looks to outside consultants to further ensure the integrity of its products.
