Clearing the decks for the formation of state government under the chief ministership of Nitish Kumar, a delegation of leaders from JD(U) and other allies today submitted letters of support to the Governor's office claiming that Kumar enjoyed support of 130 MLAs. "We went to the Raj Bhawan and submitted letters of support of 130 MLAs, including those from RJD, Congress, CPI and independent MLA Dulalchand Goswami, in favour of the newly elected JD(U) legislator party leader Nitish Kumar," state unit JD(U) president Bashistha Narayan Singh told reporters after emerging out of the Raj Bhawan.
Singh said that he has also submitted a letter to the Raj Bhawan officials apprising them about JD(U) national president Sharad Yadav's letter to the incumbent chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi that he has ceased to remain the ruling party's legislature party leader after Kumar's election to the post yesterday.
"Once the Governor Keshri Nath Tripathi returns to the state capital tomorrow, the JD(U) legislature party leader Nitish Kumar will formally meet him to stake claim to form the government," he said.
Singh was accompanied by senior party leader Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, RJD leader A B Siddique, Congress legislator party leader Sadanand Singh, CPI leader Jitendra Narayan and independent MLA Goswami.
In the 243-member Legislative Assembly, the JD(U) has 111 MLAs, BJP 87, RJD 24, Congress 5 besides 5 Independents, while ten seats are vacant.

A new face is set to join the cast of Hollyoaks - Zoe Lucker.
The former Footballers Wives actress is joining the Channel 4 soap as a new member of the McQueen family.

Her character Reenie is the mother of recent newcomers Porches, Celine and Cleo.She is also the daughter of Nana, and sister of Myra McQueen.
And it seems that the actress will be swapping her usual blonde locks for a darker-do to match her on-screen daughters.
Zoe has already filmed her first scenes which will see Porche visiting her in jail, though it's currently unclear what crime she has committed. Her appearance will be shown on TV sets in April.
The former Waterloo Road actress shared her joy about being cast in the soap.
She said: "I am really excited to be joining Hollyoaks - especially as a McQueen!

JoAnn Fabric and Crafts new store has opened at 1133 S.W. Wanamaker.
The new store replaces two smaller stores in the Villa West and Gage Village shopping centers. Employees said they already have had a soft opening, but the grand opening is scheduled for Thursday.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call (785) 273-1488.
Countertop store
to open in March
Cambridge Quartz and Granite will open its first storefront in March, creating what the owners hope will be a one-stop shop for kitchen and bathroom remodeling.
Amber Leonetti, who owns the business with her husband Zach Leonetti, said they have worked without a storefront for about 15 years. She would do consultations with customers in their homes and offer to go with them to look at other parts of the remodel if they so desired. He would then install the stone countertops after they arrived from the cutting company.
The new store, at 5967 S.W. 29th, will allow customers to look at options for quartz and granite countertops, tile, lighting, plumbing fixtures and even paint colors that coordinate with the different stone slabs, Leonetti said.
Now theyll be able to do that without having to go anywhere else, she said. Thats what we love about it, being able to give people the kitchen they dream about.

MANAOAG, PangasinanFrom a small chapel built and visited by Augustinian missionaries in 1600, the church called Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag will finally be proclaimed a minor basilica, the highest title that a Catholic church outside Rome can earn, on Feb. 17.
This is really an honor and prestige for the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan. The title minor basilica is given only by the Pope and no one else, said Fr. Ronald Mactal, the churchs chaplain and liturgist.
Pope Francis bestowed the churchs new status on Oct. 11 last year, more than three months before he visited the country on Jan. 15.
As a minor basilica, the church has been recognized for its devotion and for its role as center of liturgical celebration, Mactal said.
It earned its new status after a tedious documentation and validation that began in August last year. The process required the church leaders to answer a 14-page questionnaire in Latin.
We documented everything: the vessels, the vestments, how many masses, sacraments, baptism. In a secular way, [getting the] minor basilica [status] is like [going through an] accreditation. We are being accredited by the Pope himself, Mactal said.
The church became a parish when the Augustinians turned it over to the Dominicans in 1605. But it was only in 1701 when the construction of a big church at its present location began, according to the Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag website (www.manaoagshrine.org).
It was destroyed by an earthquake in 1882 and what was left of the building was burned by revolutionaries in 1898. It was rebuilt after the Philippine Revolution and was completed in 1912.
To date, it is the only Catholic church that has been operated by the Dominicans in Pangasinan since 1925, with the approval of the Holy See.
