Dear editor,

This is a comment to the good folks of Lazo/Point Holmes who recently made a delegation to their council about doing something about the mosquitoes that plagued them last summer.They complained that they could not sit on their patios and they needed to stay indoors all summer. They wanted the local governments to do something about the problem.

Well, I have an easy solution that does not require our local governments to take time out of their busy schedules or spend tax dollars on expensive studies. It is time that the public take some responsibility for their own welfare.

The homeowners can build bat boxes and swallow boxes and put them up on tress around their own homes.You can find easy directions on how to build them on the Internet or in the library - or watch this video bit.ly/1jAWgwj

You will also find good information about where to place them - how high - what direction they should face and how to care for annually. This is a great opportunity to learn about nature in your own backyard.Mosquitoes are a big part of the food chain. These bats and birds will take very good care of your mosquito problem without having to use pesticides.

WASHINGTON (AP) - A top aide to Illinois Rep. Aaron Schock resigned Thursday following published reports that he posted racially charged comments on social media.

Benjamin Cole had served as the four-term Republican lawmaker's spokesman since March.

In a statement to the Peoria Journal Star, Schock said he was "extremely disappointed by the inexcusable and offensive online comments made by a member of my staff."

Schock said he expects better, adding that Cole offered to resign after meeting with the lawmaker Thursday.

The meeting came after the liberal website Think Progress on Thursday published posts from Cole's personal Facebook page that included comments mocking two black people outside his Washington apartment.

Earlier this week, Cole tried to stop a Washington Post reporter from taking photos of Schock's congressional office, which is decorated in a style modeled after the TV show "Downton Abbey."

"Are you taking pictures of the office?" the newspaper quoted Cole as asking. "Who told you you could do that?"

A staff member then asked the reporter to delete the photos from his cell phone, the Post reported.

A watchdog group has requested an ethics inquiry over the interior design work, which was donated by Illinois interior decorator Annie Brahler.

Boardmasters has confirmed more acts for its 2015 showpiece today and,joining previously announced headliners Bastille and Rudimental, are: Clean Bandit, De La Soul Live, Duke Dumont, Nick Mulvey, Lower Than Atlantis, Reef, MNEK, Sunset Sons, DJ EZ and The Darkness.

Yes, The Darkness. Yknow? I Believe In A Thing Called Love? Them.

The festival takes place at Watergate Bay and Fistral, Newquay, from Wednesday, August 5, to Sunday, August 9.

Clean Bandit will be making their Boardmasters debut and will be sure to wow the crowd with chart-topping and record-breaking 2014 anthem Rather Be. American hip-hop trio De La Soul will also be bringing the party to Cornwall this summer with their high-energy act expect to bop along to The Magic Number and Me Myself And I.

DJ Duke Dumont joins the bill alongside teenage wonder-kid MNEK. The pair co-wrote Dumonts hugely successful and Grammy-nominated single Need U (100%) featuring A*M*E*. Brit award-winning spandex wearers The Darkness will also be appearing at the festival as will distinctive singer-songwriter Nick Mulvey.

Completing the first wave of acts announced today is rockers Lower Than Atlantis and Reef, Cornwall favourites Sunset Sons and garage musics DJ EZ.

More additions to the 2015 music line-up will be announced soon as well as details of the International Surf Competition.
