February 3, 2015 - Frontier League (FL) Traverse City Beach Bums TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums are excited to announce a pair of additions to the 2015 roster with outfielder Jay Austin and right-handed pitcher Anthony Montefusco joining the team via a trade with the Southern Illinois Miners, in exchange for pitcher Will Rankin.

Austin is a former second round pick of the Houston Astros and played in 60 games for Southern Illinois in 2014. He batted .292 with 12 doubles and 19 RBI while finishing fifth in the Frontier League with 28 steals. The 24 year old native of Atlanta, GA was originally drafted in 2008 and in six professional seasons has stolen 147 bases. This includes 54 steals while with Lancaster of the California League in 2010.

Montefusco joined Southern Illinois late in 2014 but in four starts he went 2-0 with a 0.37 earned run average. In 24 innings pitched he allowed only 21 hits.

The 23 year old native of Medford, NJ attended George Mason University and pitched four seasons ending in 2014. Over his collegiate career he had 59 appearances with 42 starts compiling a 21-13 record with four saves and a 3.00 earned run average. In his senior season he was named to the A-10 Conference Second Team and to the A-10 Conference All-Tournament Team.

As part of the deal, the Beach Bums send pitcher Will Rankin to Southern Illinois. Rankin emerged as the Beach Bums' closer during the 2014 season, collecting a 5-2 record with eight saves with a 1.08 earned run average. The tenth season of Beach Bums baseball begins Friday May 15 at Evansville at 6:35pm.

The Wuerfel Park offices are open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The Beach Bums will play 51 games at Wuerfel Park in 2015 starting with the home opener and a FANtastic Fireworks Friday on May 22 at 7:05 pm. Season ticket packages are now available! Beach Bums Aquire Outfielder & Pitcher Via Trade

Harry Redknapp insists he did not resign as QPR manager because of the club's lack of signings in the January transfer window.

Veteran boss Redknapp has quit as boss of the Barclays Premier League strugglers citing imminent knee replacement surgery as his reason.

And his first-team coach Glenn Hoddle, the former England manager, has also confirmed that he has left his position at Loftus Road following Redknapp's departure.

Redknapp made his decision on Tuesday morning, hours after Rangers had failed to land a number of targets on transfer deadline day and owner Tony Fernandes had tweeted there would be "no more cheque book".

But Redknapp, 67, has stressed he had not fallen out with Fernandes over the matter.

Redknapp told the Daily Mail: "I haven't got the hump. We haven't had a row. I knew some while ago that we were not going to be able to get much done in January.

"We had one real target on the last day, Emmanuel Adebayor, because we are short up front. But he was too much money. I accept that.

"There are no hard feelings on my part - I've not had a problem with Tony Fernandes in all my time there."

He added: "I know what people think - that I've been sacked, or stormed off because we couldn't get the players in.

"My son Jamie said that my timing has to be the worst in the world. When I look back on my career, it certainly isn't my strong point but I can't control what people think."

Redknapp leaves QPR

Rangers chairman Tony Fernandes accepted the former Tottenham boss' resignation just a day after tweeting there would be "no more cheque book" as the transfer window closed on Monday.

Redknapp had been under intense pressure for months with QPR languishing in a relegation dogfight, fending off what he claimed was a club insider trying to undermine his position.

Redknapp continuously claimed to have the backing of chairman Fernandes despite being rumoured to be one game from the sack on three separate occasions this season.

Head of football operations Les Ferdinand has taken temporary charge, supported by Chris Ramsey, while QPR seek a new manager.

Former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood is the early favourite to replace Redknapp and link up again with Ferdinand, who was part of his White Hart Lane coaching staff.

"Sadly I need immediate surgery on my knee which is going to stop me from doing my job in the coming weeks," said Redknapp in a QPR statement.

"It means I won't be able to be out on the training pitch every day, and if I can't give 100 per cent, I feel it's better for someone else to take over the reins.

"My relationship with Tony Fernandes has been one of the highlights of my footballing career and I wish the club every success. I am confident they will survive in the Premier League this year.

"I have had such a fantastic time at QPR. I would like to thank the board, the players and all my staff, and especially the supporters who have been absolutely fantastic to me since I arrived at the club for their tremendous support."

Redknapp had continuously claimed he needed to add a host of January reinforcements to his squad in his bid to help QPR avoid the drop.

Harry Redknapp quits QPR job due to knee surgery

Two office buildings will start construction this year on Morehead Street about a mile apart, as developers race to build Class A office space near uptown.

One of the buildings will be on West Morehead Street and one will be located on East Morehead. The new developments are in addition to uptown office towers, including 300 South Tryon, that are being planned or built for the first time since the recession.

A pair of development companies plan to start construction soon on an office and retail building at West Morehead Street and Interstate 77.

The project, by CitiSculpt and the Knox Group, is currently in the design phase. Its planned to total 70,000 square feet, including street level retail space. The companies plan to start construction later this year, with demolition of existing structures on the site starting in about six months.

Lindsey McAlpine, managing partner of CitiSculpt, said his company recently moved its offices to West Morehead.

We kind of fell in love with the area, said McAlpine. But he said the area needs more office space to accommodate growth, as retail and residential space expand and attract more companies.

The market is 90-percent-plus leased up. People tell us they would like to be in the area, or expand if theyre already there. We get calls often about office space, McAlpine said. A lot of things certainly were put on pause during the recession...Space needs are growing.

Mecklenburg County property records show CitiSculpt bought the main 1.4-acre parcel, at 1213 W. Morehead St., in December for $1.5 million. The site was sold by Ark Ventures, the company headed by Rick and Noah Lazes that developed the N.C. Music Factory. Ark bought the property in 2013 for $750,000.

The new building will add to the supply of Class A office space near uptown, but McAlpine said rents will be lower than other areas seeing rapid growth.
