Rachel and Jeremy Rognes transformed a 37-year-old house with dated dcor into a modern lakefront residence with creative design choices and a lot of hard work.

The Lake Mills High School graduates bought the three-bedroom, three-bathroom home at24694 Lakeside Drive about five years ago.

Built on the shore of Rice Lake, ithad the combination of picturesque location and neighborhood feel they wanted for their family.

"We were both from a farm and we were looking to move and this was kind of that mix of town living, but yet we're not really in town," Rachel Rognes said. "We've got lots of neighbors."

They and their children, Brynn, 9, and Calvin, 6, enjoy kayaking and fishing on the lake.

Deer, turtles, squirrels and other animals frequent the backyard. Bald eagles are regular visitors to the lake.

"When we were younger, their age, all you heard about was eagles," Jeremy Rognes said, after the children spotted an eagle soaring over the lake. "They were an endangered species. You'd never see them. They've really come back."

Though the Rognes'loved the location, Jeremy and Rachel weren't so crazy about thehome's dated dcor.Anatural brick fireplace, overhanging cabinets boxing off the kitchen and dark-colored faux beams were among the home's older features.

A leaky skylight gave them the excuse to change all that.

Have you ever fantasized about renovating your home?

Chelsea Petaja of Oh My Deer Handmades was done daydreaming. It was either time for her to either seriously revamp her house, or else she needed to find a bigger place to live.

But Chelsea and her husband had an idea. If they could turn their homes unused attic into the master bedroom, it would be like adding an entire new floor!

One problem: the space needed a full floor-to-ceiling overhaul.

Not only was the attic completely sealed-off, it was filled with 100+ years of insulation and coal. Just look at that photo below! But Chelsea managed to come through the experience with more space than she expected and her sanity intact

A man who died when his pickup truck rolled off a bridge early Saturday morning on the North Side has been identified by as Calvin Bunton, 27, according to the Bexar County medical examiners office.

Bunton was driving a 1978 Chevrolet pickup southbound in the 9200 block of the Interstate 35 access road just before 3:30 a.m., when he lost control and crashed into a guardrail, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

The pickup ended up balanced on the bridge's retaining wall, then flipped over the edge of the bridge, onto the main lanes in the 3000 block of Northeast Loop 410, police said.

Emergency medical technicians pronounced the man dead at the scene.
