Developer says building work at Bingley Hospital site did not lead to collapse of garden wall

    - January 15, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

FEARS that piling work on the site of former Bingley Hospital has caused vibrations which brought down a nearby garden wall are ill-founded say developers.

A wall to the rear of Roy and Gael Housley's home in Moorbottom Lane fell forward into their garden two days after deep work began on the new specialised dementia unit.

But Adrian Rooney, regional director of Bardsley Construction Yorkshire, said any complaints were taken seriously and vibrations were being closely monitored.

"The wall that has failed is a garden wall and not a retaining wall and also appears to be in a poor state of maintenance," he said, adding recent considerable rainfall would have added hydrostatic pressure to the garden walls.

"There is no evidence of damage to the external render to the houses or indeed any signs of damage to any other property or the surrounding area," Mr Rooney said.

"As soon as we were contacted by Mr and Mrs Housley, we moved to address their concerns by liaising further with our specialist contractors and piling works to construct a new wall at the Bingley site were temporarily halted while an expert assessment was carried out.

"From this expert assessment there was nothing to indicate that the vibrations were above the safe working limit."

Work has now restarted and the company has introduced extra vibration monitors. Engineers are also making hourly checks during the working day.

"The monitors are put in place to ensure we do not exceed our the safe working limit, which is set to provide reassurance that no structural damage to any properties will occur as a result of the vibrations," Mr Rooney added.

"Residents close to the works may experience minor noise and vibration within the property this is normal given the type of works being undertaken, but would state that this work is of short duration and will be complete by this Friday."

When James Matulis bought his first home on Spokanes North Side a few years ago, he had no idea of the problem brewing in hisbackyard.

There werent any red-flag warnings, Matulis, who lives in a 1930s-era rancher off Northwest Boulevard, said. But the toilet soon began burping, as he phrased it, and then backups becamecommon.

After several visits from city inspectors and private contractors who all said Matulis should have been hooked up to a 36-inch sewer main that ran by his home, a more in-depth search revealed that instead a cesspool was collecting waste in

New Website for Colorado Mountain Home Real Estate Site The Porches at Steamboat Springs

    - January 15, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Steamboat Springs, CO (PRWEB) January 15, 2015

When The Porches at Steamboat Springs opened eleven years ago, it was certainly a one-of-a-kind property concept for the popular ski resort and cowboy town. Although condominiums were still all the rage for ski travelers, The Porches owners Bruce Shugart and Shane Evans liked Steamboat Springs themselves so much they envisioned a neighborhood of spacious and gracious homes rather than the two to four bedroom condo towers going up in other resorts. As avid skiers, recalled Bruce Shugart, Shane and I had been to all the Colorado ski resorts. From the slopes we could see the lodging properties, and of course we sampled each ski areas aprs ski and night life as well. We found we kept coming back to Steamboat Springs and it became our favorite resort destination for the terrain and for the town. We knew we had to be a part of Steamboat Springs lodging and Steamboat Springs real estate.

Shugart and Evans were already well established in the Aspen/Snowmass destination as accomplished builders of luxury homes, ranches and commercial buildings. Their business, Structural Associates Company, also provides maintenance and management services after construction and landscaping is completed. To manifest their vision for Steamboat Springs, Shugart and Evans created Mountain Meadow Preserve LLC, acquired 16 acres just 400 yards from the ski area base, and then began to build a different sort of lodging option that could be a mountain home rather than just a rented condo. Homes at The Porches are 3,000 to 5,000 square feet and are multilevel with three fireplaces, including one in the master bedroom. Each bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom, and there is a game room with either pool table or fooseball table or both. Wireless internet access is complimentary, and each unit will have multiple flat screen TVs. Each home has its own large porch, which has become a most valuable amenity as travelers have discovered the perfect weather that is summer in the Rockies. All homes are easy walking to the free city bus system, but The Porches also provides complimentary private transportation to restaurants, shopping, getting around town and to the mountain if necessary. The Barn is the multiuse community facility where guests arrive and where the full time concierge is available both before and during a visit. There is a workout room and a steam room, outdoor heated pool, hot tub and fire pit, game room, and a towering stone fireplace in the lounge area. The expansive amenities and activities at The Barn are offered to those with whole ownership, fractional ownership, and to luxury rental guests.

The Porches at Steamboat Springs has continued to build, and in the second half of 2014 it became apparent that a more sophisticated website would better serve the current owners and those looking for a luxury experience in a Colorado vacation resort with its own Old West traditions and legendary yearly snow totals. Wandzilak Web Design was contracted to redesign and build a site that would showcase the integration of space and place in a unique mountain setting. We are so pleased at the uptick in interest weve seen since our website expanded and began to offer more viewer interaction, said The Porches General Manager Emilie Crider. We will use our online photo gallery to show the unique interiors and exteriors of our homes, and as always we will provide a calendar of local Steamboat events. The best of this years ski days are yet to come, but we are already looking forward to our summer rodeos and concerts.

The new website for The Porches at Steamboat Springs has information for travelers looking for a short stay with luxury cachet and amenities prior to buying, and contact information for those looking for mountain home ownership in a world class resort.

About The Porches at Steamboat Springs

The Porches is a neighborhood of homes located close to the base of the ski mountain in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. These high end, thoughtfully crafted homes range in size from 3,000 square feet to 5,000 square feet and they feature custom beams, professional kitchens, the finest cabinetry, custom ranch stone fireplaces, and of course, comfortable and inviting porches. These luxury homes are available for whole and fractional ownership, and as luxury rentals.

New church building opens in Kingston

    - January 15, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

KINGSTON The Rev. Canon Mark A. Pearson was one happy clergyman this Christmas season.

Two days before Christmas, Fire Chief Bill Seaman handed him the Permit to Operate a Place of Assembly for the new church building at 80 Route 125, and on Christmas Eve, Trinity Church held its first worship service there.

People driving along Route 125 in the southern part of Kingston for the last 14 months have noticed new construction just down the driveway leading to the New Creation Healing Center. Now that building is open.

Colonial New Englanders used the term Meeting House to describe the building in which both sacred and secular events were held. Because this is the intent for the new building, it will be called The Meeting House.

For years, New Creation Healing Center has offered seminars on wellness addressing the whole person body, soul and spirit. Some of these seminars taxed the facilities of the existing building.

With several special events planned for 2015, the much larger space is welcomed. Additionally, various events for the wider community will be held in The Meeting House, including classes on environmentally friendly gardening and various musical and dramatic events.

State of the art audio-visual equipment will be installed as funding becomes available. The acoustics have already proven wonderful for music.

The Meeting House is square and yellow because we wanted to pick up the Colonial architectural style of the existing medical/counseling/massage therapy building, Pearson said. We initially wanted something in the classic New England white church on the town green model. But the space we were allowed to build on was square, not rectangular. We looked into New England history and discovered that the classic New England white church was really the second style of Meeting House. What came first was a square building with a hip roof, topped with a widows walk, a small spire and bell. They were painted many different colors, but not white. Our model is the Old Ship Church in Hingham built in 1681. We copied the design of Old Ship in many ways, except we have electricity, indoor plumbing and heat. We trust no one, including architectural purists, will mind, Pearson said.

Pearson has a rich musical heritage. He was a fourth generation member of the Men and Boys Choir at Christ Church, Fitchburg, Mass., and later became a professional organist-choirmaster.

He said, Weve held various special services in the small chapel of the old building. Tenebrae during Holy Week and various services of Lessons and Carols have been much enjoyed despite the poor acoustics and limited seating. Were looking forward to holding these services in The Meeting House, as well as holding other services such as Taize worship. And since were also part of a healing center, we will continue to have healing services, but now on the handicapped-accessible ground floor.
