Central Florida company says it has the solution

    - January 13, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

    ORLANDO, Fla. -

Is your car smelling musty? It may be making you sick. A spilled drink here, a leaky window there, even a faulty A/C unit hidden deep in your dashboard can all be sources of mold and mildew. Xtraordinair By Class, a Central Florida company, says it has a process that can leave your car smelling fresh and allergen-free, all in less than one hour.

The company's director, Don Ward, says their "Green Nano Technology" fogger will kill all odor causing bacteria.

"There is definitely a sick car syndrome," said Ward, as he showed off what he calls his company's "revolutionary cleaning product."

Ward said people are getting sick from the bacteria in their cars and they may not even realize it.

Angie Federici says nothing about her vehicle is clean and fresh.

"My children and I we live in the car, we do," she said. "It usually smells like somebody's sweaty sneakers."

Between school, work and trips to her kids sporting events, her mini van is a home away from home. She thinks it may also be home to mold, mildew and to use her words, "Who knows what else."

"We probably are inhaling all kinds of toxins from the car from the all the things we do in this car," she added.

"This is an issue we're finding more and more. People are getting in their car and having headaches," Ward said. "They buy a used car and there's something growing in it. Suddenly a half hour home they have a headache and they can't figure out why. It's what's in their car."

Making these blankets available to the community is consistent with our mission of helping keep the cost of housing low. Energy efficiency is one major way to control home operating costs.

A short six minute video is available on FHPs website, http://www.flhome.org, demonstrating how to install a water heater blanket. While newer water heater models may not need additional insulation, homeowners can determine the need for insulation if the tank

Whitehall effort springs up to save Christmas tree set for removal

    - January 13, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

WHITEHALL A campaign to spare a century-old Norway spruce that has served as the Whitehall Christmas Tree since 1928 likely wont do much good.

Lights were still on the impressive tree Monday, and Christmas and holiday decorations still adorned the gazebo at the Main Street park adjacent to the Canadian National Railway tracks.

    City tackles tree debris

    - January 13, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Tree limbs felled in the ice storm mounted at the City of Odessas five removal areas through the weekend, as city employees scrambled to dispose of tons of branches that would become free mulch.

The volume of work storm cleanup presented forced multiple city departments to focus on tree limb disposal the Parks, Streets, Public Works, Solid Waste and Code Enforcement. Other employees who volunteer with Keep Odessa Beautiful also helped.

Meanwhile, Odessans like Shane Gonzales took out their trailers to help neighbors, make a little extra money or both. Gonzales said he started removing tree limbs for neighbors around his home near Bernise Avenue and Seventh Street. He said he helped some elderly neighbors for free but others paid up to a few hundred dollars.

I didnt want them to be out in the cold, Gonzales said, hauling to a disposal site at Floyd Gwin Park. But it wasnt all free. So I cant take all of the credit.

That load was his fifth. Another included a 20-plus foot tree in his neighborhood split down the middle.

This was nice that the city did this, Gonzales said. It made it a little easier.

Ector County officials on Monday announced they would open five locations to be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays through Jan. 26. They also threatened prosecution to anyone who dumps illegally at the sites.

City officials did not have a tonnage estimate of the disposed tree fragments. All would wind up at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility, 814 West 42nd St., where workers would grind them into mulch. (Incidentally, Odessans can go there to pick up free mulch).

Some private business took advantage of the ice-storm cleanup such as Hill County Landscape and Lawn, based in Austin but staffed by former Odessans.

My sister called and said Get down here, said one of the workers, Aaron Ashton. Theres too much work.

Tile review: Would you pay $25 a year to find your keys (maybe)?

    - January 13, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Tile $20.00

After its battery dies, I'm not sure I will still be so worried about where my stuff is that I'd pay for Tile all over again.

Im always excited when a product that was previously only compatible with iOS devices finally makes its way to Android. But with Tile, a pocket-sized, Bluetooth-enabled gadget that keeps track of your stuff, the wait may not have been worth it.

The Tile fits on your key ring or sticks to your wallet with an additional adhesive pad.

Lets start from the beginning: Tile was crowdfunded back in 2013 by thousands of backers who felt that this was the kind of device that could properly track their stuff. The gadget eventually arrived last summer for iOS devices.

Tile costs $25 a piece (with discounts for mutli-tile packs) and is about as big as a matchbook. You will have to buy more than one Tile if you plan to track multiple things. It has a keyring hole so you can easily attach it to your keys, or you can stick it to things with the included adhesive square. It's a tad on the thick sideabout as thick as two quarters stacked up on top of one anotherand though it isnt bulky, its still a significant addition to your keychain, or wherever you put it. Its also water resistant and constructed out of durable material, so you dont have to worry about it falling apart.

Tile isnt too thick, but its still a significant addition on your keychain.

Tile is helpful for people who tend to misplace common things, like keys or a wallet. If you do lose something with a Tile attached to it, you can ping it via Bluetooth and it will play an adorable chiptune melody until youve confirmed that you found it. If its too far out of range, you can then use the Community Find feature available within the app to locate it. Since Tile doesnt have GPS tracking built-in, it relies on other users with the Tile app to locate your missing square. That location information is then registered as the last place it was seen. Its like a virtual lost and found and you dont have to be a Tile user to help out others.

Put Tile on your keys and never lose them again. If you have Bluetooth on, of course. And if the battery inside the Tile still works. And if youre within range.

The good news is that all of Tile features work well, save for a few awkward times that the Tile app couldnt figure out that my keys were right next to my phone. Tiles Bluetooth range extends up to 100 feet, and as long as other Tile users have Bluetooth on, youll be able to track where you stuff is. The tunes that Tile emits are loud enough to hear in a noisy house, too.

Tile Hill Wood girls prove themselves in workshop challenge

    - January 13, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Nine Year 11 students from Tile Hill Wood School tested their problem-solving skills during a three-day World of Work workshop.

The event, run by BT in Birmingham, was based on TV show The Apprentice where they were expected to rise to the challenge and improve entrepreneurial team building skills.

Pupils from three other schools, including Woodlands Academy in Coventry and two from the Birmingham area, also attended.

They were put in mixed teams where they had to practise their problem-solving skills and present their ideas and concepts to The Boss.

The winning team, Pegasus, were crowned as the champions at the end of the day.

A Tile Hill Wood spokesman said: The girls learned so much from the whole experience, including tips from experts within BT which enabled them to build on their presentation skills.

The event was so successful that BT wish to run it next year and have requested that the girls at Tile Hill Wood School take part again.
