By Troy Jefferson | Published 12 hours ago

Students will now have another off-campus housing option to consider as they make arrangements for the next school year.

Kincaid Henry Building Group andThe Element 903 have partnered up to construct a new mixed-use student housing project at 903 E. Grand River Ave., directly across from the Bogue Street entrance to campus and McDonalds, near the MSU law and business schools.

Best Types of Remodels For A Smart Sale Strategy

    - January 13, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

If youre considering improvements to your home this winter, first consider which will pay the most back when you sell the home down the road. (See: Selling Your House? Avoid These Mistakes.) Remodeling Magazine recently released its 2015 Cost vs. Value Report, which outlines the 35 most popular home additions, remodels and replacements in 101 U.S. cities. Its recommendations will help you determine which projects will yield the greatest return on your home improvement investment: (For related reading, see: Five Ways To Make Your Home Remodel Pay Off.)

Image 1: Photo courtesy of Meyer Windows, Doors and More

    1) Front door replacement

One of the most surprising replacements topping the list was steel entry doors. Homeowners who replaced their existing wood entry doors with steel saw a 101.8% return on investment during resale. Steel doors can be made hollow or solid, as well as soundproof and fireproof. They also come in a range of colors in addition to the default silver, which can be matched to any color scheme in a variety of paint grades.

    2) Installing manufactured stone veneer

A new addition to the Cost vs. Value list this year is manufactured stone veneer, which yielded a 92.2% return on investment. Stone veneer mimics the look of natural stone or brick for a fraction of the cost. It is useful in many areas of the home and can be used to treat siding, fireplace mantels and bathtub enclosures, among other things. It is most often used in the fabrication of siding or fireplace overlays to create an old-fashioned masonry appearance.

Urban Luxury Vinyl Announces Launch of New Website

    - January 13, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Corona, CA (PRWEB) January 13, 2015

Southern California flooring company Urban Luxury Vinyl today announced the launch of their newly designed website which is viewable at urbanluxuryvinyl.com and highlights the companys more than 80 flooring styles across their 13 product lines of luxury vinyl flooring. It was designed by Modmacro, Inc., a Southern California-based web design and marketing firm.

The new site includes high-quality images of every available product, with the ability to view each product in detail. In addition, each product is shown in a room, so customers can visualize the product in a realistic setting. The new site also offers customers the ability to easily request samples through a shopping experience that allows them to click through the entire offering of products and select the ones they wish to see in more detail. Customers can also download the product catalog or request a full catalog to be delivered to their office.

Jeremy Britton, General Manager of Urban Luxury Vinyl said, For the longest time our customers have raved about our products but decried our out-of-date website. Our new site from Modmacro has not changed the quality of our goods, but it has enhanced the way they are perceived in the marketplace. Stylish design, beautiful pictures, and an engaging format promise to boost customer engagement and give us the edge we have been missing.

The new site offers valuable information for industry professionals that use luxury vinyl products, including architects, developers, flooring contractors, general contractors, interior designers and property managers, and caters to each group individually. For example, the section for property managers highlights the durability, affordability and ease of installation of Urban Luxury Vinyl products. The site also provides suggestions under every product line description for the best uses of that product, making it easier for customers to select the product that will work for their specific project and environment.

Matt Smith, CEO of Modmacro, said, Were proud of the site we delivered for Urban. Theyre a great company and were pleased with the partnership forged through this project and a few others. The new site has already been featured in top web design galleries and we feel it represents Urban in a professional and informative manner that also provides interested parties with several ways to connect with Urban and their amazing luxury vinyl solutions.

Centura Tile, Canadas Premier Distributor of Floor and Wall Fashions, Announces Designer Concrete Floor Advantages

    - January 13, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) January 13, 2015

Centura Tile (http://www.Centura.ca), North Americas premier distributor of both residential and commercial floor and wall fashions, is announcing the advantages of designer concrete floors.

With all the fuss about various types of wood flooring, it may be surprising to learn that concrete is beginning to emerge as a popular option for commercial properties, says Ross Keltie, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Centura Tile. Concrete has always had advantages for commercial businesses like grocery stores, but consumers are becoming more educated about the different types of flooring and have begun to inquire about how they can implement concrete into their properties.

Keltie explains that concrete is made up of cement, water, a variety of aggregates that could include stone or gravel, and some kind of bonding agent. The benefits of concrete include being low-maintenance, having a smooth surface that reflects light well, and being a highly durable flooring option. Another big advantage is that newer technologies allow for concrete to be poured without being harmful to indoor air qualities.

In many instances, stripping and refinishing concrete is not necessary. And although the initial cost of installing concrete may be a bit higher than other flooring options, the overall cleaning and maintenance tends to be less costly in the long run, he adds. Its something facilities should consider when making building decisions.

Keltie notes that Centura Tile is offering finishing cements on its flooring showroom that guarantee smooth, joint-free surfaces that are great for interior floors.

We currently offer ARDEX Self-Levelling Toppings and TEC Ultra Wear Surface Topping in our warehouses, Keltie concludes. Both are high quality products and weve been seeing a lot more people using these as flooring options.

Angie's List: pros & cons of wood-look tile

    - January 13, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

(ANGIE'S LIST) - With a wide variety of colors and finishes, wood tiles are giving real wood floors a run for their money.

The high definition that the manufacturers have been printing on these tiles give the grain a natural look. And then, like I said, the feel. You can feel the grain in it so it seems real, says Flooring expert Cory Steenbergen.

So real, even savvy homeowners are usually fooled.

When they look at them, they actually don't believe that they're actual tiles, says Steenbergen.

In addition to their realistic look, you don't have to worry about the wear and tear that frustrates many homeowners with solid hardwood flooring.

This is way more durable. You will never have fading, scratches, chips, nicks, the fading of the finish, doesn't need to be sealed. It's super easy to clean. There's no warpage, so you don't have to worry about water being on it, says Steenbergen.

Angie Hicks from Angie's List says, Wood-look tile is one of the latest trends these days for anywhere you might have a chance in getting water in your home. So, your kitchen, your bathroom, laundry room, even your basement.

While these tile planks are slightly more expensive than your typical tiles, flooring experts say they're a smart investment.

They can range from $2 to $5 more than your 12x12 porcelain, but the quality that you get from them and the longevity of the tile, you can't beat it and it's going to give a nice warm, modern look to a remodel, says Steenbergen.

The downside? Tiles may help keep your home cooler in the summer, but they may not be so comfortable in the winter if you live in a cold climate. Installation also needs to be perfect. Angie's List says flaws will show.

    Renovations underway at RCC

    - January 13, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

LUMBERTON Three rooms at Robeson Community College that will be used to provide health care students with life simulation training will be operating within two months, according to college Vice President Channing Jones.

Jones told the colleges board of trustees Monday that the rooms where state-of-the-art mannequins will be used to give students hands-on training should be open as early as next month and no later than March.

The $250,000 in renovations are being funded through a $25 million grant RCC is sharing with five other community colleges. The Better Occupational Outcomes with Simulated Training grant is provided through the U.S. Department of Labor.

Other renovations under way at the college include roofing on Building 8, located on RCCs main campus, and carpet installation in the administration building. According to Vice President Alphonso McRae, 50 percent of the new carpet will be installed this weekend and the rest on Jan. 25 and Jan. 26.

In other business, the trustees on Monday:

Heard a brief enrollment update from Pamela Hilbert, the colleges president. Although the spring semester figures are not final, Hilbert said it appears that spring enrollment will be about 1,725 students, down from the fall enrollment of 1,900 students.

This is the national trend, Hilbert said. Undergraduate enrollments are down at colleges and universities across the country except in metropolitan areas.

According to Hilbert, RCC is trying to recruit new students and maintain those already attending. A committee has been formed, she said, to improve marketing efforts.

Heard a brief report about the colleges chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. The presentation was made by Shamella Cromartie and Louis McIntyre, RCC staff chapter advisers, and RCC student Darious Johnson, the chapters president.

Phi Theta Kappa is an honor society for community college students. To be a member a student must have a 3.5 grade- point average or higher. Currently, there are 28 members of the society on campus at RCC.

Hanley Wood Releases REMODELING Magazines 2015 Annual Cost vs. Value Report

    - January 13, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) January 12, 2015

REMODELING Magazine announced today the release of its 28th annual Cost vs. Value Report comparing construction costs with resale value for 36 of the most popular home improvement projects in 102 U.S. markets. The entire report, including interactive infographics, is available at http://www.costvsvalue.com and at http://www.remodelingmag.com.

The 2015 report, which compares changes in home improvement project costs with members of National Association of Realtors perceptions of what those projects contribute to a homes price at resale, reflects the mixed messages that were delivered by the housing market throughout 2014.

While the cost of doing projects rose across the board last year by an average of 4.22%, the modest gains in price and tepid increases in the volume of home sales left Realtors concluding that only about half the 36 projects would benefit a homes value at resale. As a result, this years report saw cost-value ratios rise for only five projects. The midrange roofing replacement led the way, rising 5.9%. The other four gainers were the midrange garage door replacement, up 5.6%; the 20-gauge steel replacement entry door, up 5.4%; vinyl siding replacement, up 3.2%; and the sole upscale project: a fiberglass replacement entry door, rising 1.7%. Another 30 projects declined and there was one new project.

Our Cost vs. Value Reports in recent years indicated big-ticket projects such as attic bedrooms and basement remodels were enjoying ever-bigger payoffs, said Craig Webb, Editor-in-Chief, REMODELING and ProSales. For 2015, however, the simpler and lower-cost the project, the bigger its cost-value ratio three of the four projects that cost less than $5,000 are ranked in the top five for cost recouped, and the other two are in the $5,000 - $25,000 price range.

In 2015, the top recouping projects are:

Under $5,000: Steel Entry Door Replacement (101.8%); Mid-range Garage Door Replacement (88.4%); Upscale Garage Door Replacement (82.5%); Steel Entry Door Replacement (72.0%)

    $5,000 - $25,000: Manufactured Stone Veneer (92.2%); Fiber-cement Siding Replacement (84.3%); Vinyl Siding Replacement (80.7%)

    $25,000 - $100,000: Attic Bedroom (77.2%); Basement Remodel (72.8%); Major Kitchen Remodel (67.8%); Garage Addition (64.8%)

    $100,000 +: Two-Story Addition (64.1%); Master Suite Addition (61.7%); Major Kitchen Remodel (59.0%) Master Suite Addition (53.7%)
