A BRIDGE TO END COMMUTERS TROUBLES. Regional Director Ador Canlas (second fom left) of the Department of Public Works and Highways and District Engineer Nicomedes Leonor inspect the installation of a temporary steel bridge in Dumlog, Sibonga. A flash flood during tropical storm Seniang nearly two weeks ago washed out the soil beneath the bridges approach. (SUN.STAR PHOTO/ALEX BADAYOS)

THOSE who depend on buses and trucks to reach Cebu City from some southern towns will have to wait one more week before they can use the old route that crossed Barangay Dumlog in Sibonga town.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 Director Ador Canlas headed yesterday the launching or installation of steel decks, which are among the main parts of a temporary steel bridge that vehicles will be able to use.

The steel bridge had to be constructed after an 18-meter approach to the Dumlog bridge collapsed during a flash flood caused by tropical storm Seniang. The bridge connects Argao and Sibonga towns.

Canlas said the installation of the steel decks may take five days, but that DPWH will try their best to do it faster.

    Now in place

Agency officials hope the steel bridge will be passable before the key events of the Sinulog festival, which include the solemn procession on Jan. 17 and the grand parade on the day after.

At least 133 steel plates will be placed on the temporary bridge.

Yesterday, the materials needed for the steel bridge arrived, including the transoms (which will hold the steel decks) and trailer. The heavy equipment and transoms were supposed to arrive last Thursday from Cagayan de Oro, but the DPWH encountered a problem.

TheALL ARE WELCOMEseries is an occasional feature on this blog thathighlights Catholic parishes and faith communities that support and affirm LGBT people.

Two parishevents in recent months reveal the ways in whichCatholics are expanding LGBT welcome and propellingconversations about family in the Catholic Church.

The first example comes from the Life Questions group at St. Edward Churchin Racine, Wisconsin, whichheld two events last November, according toThe Journal Times, dealing first with marriage and second withpastoral care ofLGBT people.

In the first session, attorney Mark Hinkston explained the differences between civil and sacramental marriage. Given marriage equalitys inevitability in civil law and the Catholic bishops opposition, he asked participants:

Can there be a middle ground? It will be interesting to see how the practical situation plays out and to what extent the church will take notice.

In the second session, Fr. Allen Bratkowski, the pastor, and Deacon Keith Hansen, who has experience in LGBT ministry, focused on welcoming lesbian and gay people within the church. Hansen reiterated the discomfort that LGBT people feel, even while possessing a deep faith and said parishes need to be more welcoming than we are. He continued:

We struggle in our church to accept all of our neighbors, as Jesus taught us to loveGod loves all of his creations unconditionally and we are called to do the same.

We need to let [gay people]know We need you to be our ushers and to serve on our parish councilsWe need to say You are part of Gods church, please join us.

Fr. Bratkowski responded to parishioners practical questions about how to include LGBT people andreminded participantsthat the church does evolve and change. He also said he would baptize children whose parents are in a same-gender relationship.

The second example comes from a group ofCatholic parishes in Waterloo, Iowa, thatare hosting seven Listening Sessions in the coming year for inactive Catholics and Catholic seekers. They describe the sessions in the following way:

Like a muddied spring or a polluted well are the righteous who give way to the wicked. Proverbs 25:26

A Deceptive Prophecy Given To the Glory Gathering During December 2012

This piece will be our last piece on Amanda Wells for hopefully some time. This article will look at a certain prophecy given by Gold Coast prophetess Amanda Wells, to Katherine Ruonala and the Glory Gathering aka Glory City Church, situated in the inner Brisbane suburb of Kelvin Grove, in December 2012. (Amanda Wells comments in italics.) You can see the full prophecy at the bottom of this article.

Over the last couple of days Ive just been praying, God whats for 2013? I had a word as I was walking yesterday and I wrote to Pastor Katherine and gave it to her. And I really believe that 2013 is going to be really, really pivotal because God is a triune God. Everything God does is in threes. Father, Son, Holy Spirit; Heavens in threes. And so, next year, 2013, is a pivotal year because its the third year. Its like the third day. Gods going to break out. And as I was praying I heard God say that Glory City Church is going to break out.

Well, well, well, Amanda what do you know about that? I had a word as I was walking yesterday and I wrote to Pastor Katherine and gave it to her and who or what was the sourceof that word Amanda?

Was there an underlying passage or two of scripture that supported the word? No? How about the confirmation of two or three credible, reliable witnesses (mature brethren) Amanda? What, none? Hmmmmm doesnt look good does it, Amanda? Its like the third day how very NAR of you!

There are going to be Glory Gatherings in Australia and overseas. And those Glory Gatherings are going to turn into Glory City Churches and I saw three for this year particularly. One overseas, maybe two overseas, but definitely in Australia as well. And I just saw over Pastor Tom and Pastor Katherine such an apostolic anointing coming. Theyve been standing in it but now the apostolic anointing is really upon them; its being released.

Looks like theres going to be a multiplication of churches, and those Glory Gatherings are going to turn into Glory City Churches and I saw three for this year particularly but then again, that might just be the good old fashioned cloning or rebadging process, mightnt it? There is absolutely no guarantee that this prophecy is of God, no matter how holy and righteous it may sound. In fact, it sounds just like the church growth ideology, doesnt it? Oh dear Amanda, we do hope that pastor Katherine didnt give you a love offering for this one she may have to come calling for a refund sometime soon

Lets remind ourselves briefly, of what scripture demands of prophets:

Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others pass judgment. But if a revelation is made to another who is seated, the first one must keep silent. For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted (1 Corinthians 14: 29, 30)

Strong, Beautiful Indiana Limestone Invokes Historic Construction For All Saints Anglican Church in Springfield …

    - January 10, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Oolitic, Ind. (PRWEB) January 09, 2015

Exterior limestone quarried in Indiana imparts to the new All Saints Anglican Church in Springfield, Mo., beauty, visible permanence, and a connection with ecclesiastical architectural history. All these elements, essential considerations for both the congregation and the architects who designed the structure, guided the selection of stone from Indiana Limestone Co., Oolitic, Ind.

The church, designed by Marshall Waters Woody Architects and built by Brian Beckers Construction, both of Springfield, embodies traditional construction, both in its graceful presentation and in the use of real stone.

An ambitious project made possible by the contributions of generous donors, construction is being carried out in three main parts. Phase one was the erection of the actual church, parish hall and kitchen. An ongoing second and third phase is the construction of an educational wing and a columbarium. An integral part of the second phase is a colonnade connection between the school section and the church.

Bill Woody, principal at Marshall Waters Woody, said an early part of his firms work on the project was intensive research regarding the use of buttressing and arched windows. We sought to be as true to a period Anglican church as we could, Woody said.

The firms use of Indiana limestone was essential in the architects efforts to present a structure projecting spirituality and sacred contemplation. Natural stone brings a character not seen in other materials, Woody said. Stone is solidity, speaking to a strong structure with real peace of mind.

John Simmons, chair of the churchs building committee, said the project has been years in the making. We had rented space in a Lutheran church for five years, he said. When the growing congregation outpaced the room available for them there, they sought and found land for a church of their own in Springfield, purchasing first a 17-acre estate, then another five-acre parcel contiguous to the land theyd already bought.

Ground was broken for the structure in 2011. Phase 1, with more than 12,000 square feet under roof, embraces the sanctuary, with day chapel and narthex as well as a kitchen-equipped parish hall, administrative areas, sacristy and priests office. Phase 2, something less than half that size, includes the education section and an arched stone colonnade to the parking lot. Still to be completed are the columbarium and patio area off the parish hall, and an area with a gated portal reserved for personal contemplation and reflection.

In addition to the architectural firm, other companies from the Springfield area were chosen to handle essential phases of the project. Brian Beckers Construction was general contractor and John M. Gill Masonry Co. was the masonry contractor. Both Beckers and Gill lauded the ease with which the stone could be handled and applied. Earthworks of Perryville, Mo. fabricated and supplied the project stone.

As the original quarry provider of stone for the project, Indiana Limestone Co. offered valuable technical support throughout the design and construction phases so far, assisting all participants with information that has saved time, helped restrain costs and contributed to superlative results.

Londonderry church construction pauses for winter

First Baptist Church of South Londonderry construction will pick back up in April.

LONDONDERRY >> First Baptist Church of South Londonderry has paused construction for the winter after builders and the church community decided holding off would be best.

"A lot of the stuff that needed to be done now, we would have had to heat," Co-Pastor Kathleen Blackey said. "This gives us time to see where we're at and see what we need to do in the future. Everybody was happy with the decision."

Efforts to rebuild the church, which burned down in a fire in August 2010, began over the summer. The foundation was poured, walls were constructed and the roof was placed on the building that will be in the same spot as its predecessor and can already be seen while crossing the bridge on Route 100, a press release stated.

Construction is expected to begin again at the beginning of April. Previously, church officials expected construction to continue through the winter. Brick will be added to the sanctuary portion of the building and shingling to the roof when construction resumes.

So far, donations have helped move the project forward and people are still contributing funds through firstbaptistlondonderryvt.org.

"We're hoping as long as we can get the funding that we need, we'll open maybe next fall. But it's hard to say at this point," said Blackey. "We're doing more work to figure it out all out."

Another approximately $600,000 may be necessary for completing the project, Blackey estimated. She said one of the challenges of building a new commercial building in Vermont involves regulation. There are codes that need to be followed.
